Portez-vous volontaire dans une hacienda près de Sucre, en Bolivie
Description
Update April 2012. We are ONLY looking for volunteers who are truly physically fit so if this does not apply to you please do not apply to work with us. We are looking for volunteers to help with land clearing, landscaping (moving dirt and stones) and lime washing the exterior of the buildings as well as external walls.
A number of potential volunteers are writing to work with us and then not following up with either a date of arrival or cancelling come to us. We expect potential volunteers to maintain communication with us on a regular basis - until we have a firm committment to arrive on a firm date you do not have the right to expect a place with us!
Ed and June are building a Hacienda, , using stones from the land and earth to make adobe bricks, in the beautiful countryside 20 minutes from Sucre, Bolivia. The land measures 10.5 acres and has 360 degree views of the Andean mountains. Check out our photo album.
We have almost finished constructing our contemporary home, the Roundhouse, which will also be shared with paying guests. We are now focusing on landscaping and planting the large garden around the Roundhouse. Plans for next year include building separate adobe guest bungalows, major tree planting and creating an organic vegetable garden.
When our business is generating, income we intend to contribute to those less fortunate than ourselves who are living in Bolivia. We have set up an NGO and registered charity which is aimed at improving prospects principally for young people and children in local communities, through education and training.
We enjoy all year round temperatures of around 23C although it feels warmer in the high altitude sun. Nights are cooler, but only cold in June, July and August.
Our pets are brother and sister siamese cats and 2 adopted rescue dogs. We have 6 laying hens, and a rooster.

Minimum stay 2 weeks. We particularly welcome long term volunteers.
Working hours are Mon - Fri 8.30 am to 12 noon with a half-hour break at 10 am. 2 hours for lunch then work from 2-4 pm. Weekends are free and we do not provide food for volunteers at the weekend.
Our ideal volunteers are physically fit, ready to tackle anything that needs doing, listen to what is required of them and do it without permanent supervision. We love enthusiastic, creative and responsible workers who show initiative.
We are looking for volunteers to help us landscape our garden. Work will include clearing land, making dry-stone walls, mixing earth, planting and watering. Also bush clearing the remainder of our land so that we can plant trees. Lime-washing the rendered adobe walls is also on our list of tasks.
We expect our volunteers to help out with cooking their meals and keeping their living spaces clean and tidy.
We are also looking for a couple with experience in hotel/restaurant work to help us run our business long term. You will need to apply for temporary residency once you are in Bolivia which will cost approx £250 per year. All board and lodging will be provided by us plus a small personal allowance.

Logement
Depending on how many volunteers we have at one time, there is the possibility of having indoor accommodation. Otherwise we have tents with mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows and blankets, so nice and cosy! We have a bathroom with hot showers for use by our volunteers as well as a fully functioning kitchen. We have a communal main meal at lunchtime cooked locally.
Autres choses...
We have a 17 metre swimming pool.
There are beautiful walks from our property with stunning views of the Andes mountains.
The beautiful colonial city of Sucre (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is accessible by regular daytime mini buses, stopping a 10 minute walk from our property. There are plenty of museums, bars and restaurants and some interesting nightclubs should you wish to stay in Sucre on your days off. Potosi, the highest city in the world, is a 3 hour bus ride where you can take a mine tour and visit the Money Museum. Tarabuco is a small rural town with an indigenous market every Sunday - a good place to buy weavings and other souvenirs.

Well, he didn't show up and only let me know a day later when I had spent a very anxious night wondering what had happened. I emailed him to ask him to let me know he was alright but heard nothing until today. Plans changed etc. etc. Have wasted a lot of time

I stayed at the hacienda for 5 weeks and it was great! The location is beautiful, I lived in an earth-built dome, and Ed and June were very good hosts. They were also very open to ideas I had for projects, and I ended up being able to head up the construction of a greywater system there. The bolivian workers are also really great people, and more
Our first work away experience could not have been better! Ed and June are friendly, fascinating and knowledgeable people who were great to work for. They are clear in their instruction and really good about saying thank you. The food was delicious, the local workers were kind and their project is positive and inspiring. We are so happy to have more
Nelle and Derek were a pleasure to have staying with us here. We made a lot of progress thanks to their help and would strongly recommend them to other Workaway hosts.
Great work guys, and you are welcome back any time!

Julie was a shining example of an ideal volunteer, listening carefully to what we required of her and carrying out each task competently. She was very independent, able to take care of whatever she wanted to do but, at the same time a lively and interesting contributor to our mealtimes together. We wished she could have stayed longer!
Thank you more
Thank you more
ed and june are very nice and lively people, who have a lot of very interesting and adventurous stories to tell. their current project "hacienda sky" is amazing to look at and we would highly recomend to become a part of it. during our stay there we learned lots of new things and saw many beatuiful places (like sucre or potosi). also there are more
Sina and Sky came to work for 7 weeks. During this time they helped us so much with various projects, painting and varnishing, gardening, carpentry and whatever else needed doing. Sina finished the mosaic work on our outdoor jacuzzi, having had no previous experience, but with a natural talent.

Working with Ed and June at the hacienda was great for lots of reasons! The mosaic work itself was really interesting and we were so happy to have learned a new skill.. June's cooking is second to none and I have to say she prepared a few dishes that we have not had the pleasure of tasting since our travels begun 4 months ago- a rare treat! The more
4 weeks volunteering at here was an awesome experience.
It was for us more than helping alone! Telling stories around the table with lunchtime, delicious home-made food, playing/walking with their great dogs and lovely cats, enjoying the beautiful scenery, just relaxing, staying in a cosy and warm adobi house with all facilities, practising more

Hans and Dorien were everything we would want from volunteers - hardworking, taking the intitiative, friendly and a pleasure to have around. Dorien was a master mosaic-er and Hans a great all rounder, helping Ed out with jobs that needed doing, including limewashing. The Roundhouse now looks fabulous. Dorien helped out with walking the dogs more
Workawaying at June and Ed´s was an amazing experience. The mountain scenery is beautiful and makes for a great work environment. Ed and June are very kind and do their best to make sure everyone is having a positive experience. Building was hard work, but very enjoyable, and I learned a lot in a short amount of time. Taking coca break with the more
We really enjoyed having Alicia to stay with us. She was very enthusiastic, digging ditches in the hot sun and making adobe bricks. She really surprised our Bolivian workers with her soccer skills - they had never seen a woman playing football before! An excellent all round volunteer.
The 6 weeks we have just spent here with June and Ed have been thoroughly amazing. The two of them, the place and the project are inspirational. The surroundings and hiking are out of this world. True freedom to roam.
The locals are a truely friendly bunch to work alongside. We were welcomed into their regular coca break with open arms. Aswell more

Cathy and Jonny were a pleasure to have volunteering on our project. They were very hardworking, keen to connect with our Bolivian workers and even joined in for a gruelling high altitude football match on their last day. They loved the surrounding countryside and took off on exploratory hikes every Sunday. Jonny built a kite buggy out of old more
We had a better than excellent time here. We cannot thank June and Ed enough for having us for the month and for teaching us so much. The area is stunning, the mountains are a beautiful sight to wake up to every morning. And the house, well- see for yourselves! The food was fantastic, a tasty two course lunch, and for dinner, whatever Jamie felt more
We have nothing but praise for James Monk and Kate Hartland. Their enthusiasm for our project, their love of the Bolivian countryside and their willingness to learn all that we had to offer was inspiring. We have offered them the chance to manage our project in the future so that we can take a break and would not hesitate to recommend them as more
Volunteering at the Hacienda was a brilliant experience. Ed and June with responsibilities that allow you to be a real part of this ever evolving project. Volunteering here can be an extremely intimate experience, forming friendships with the enthusiastic local workers and even the bread lady down the lane. The workers that Ed and June employ are more
Dominic brought a friend Thomas - they worked for us for 2 weeks. As we are new to Workaway, they helped create a campsite for future volunteers using stone and earth. They were quick learners and enthusiastic in their work. When they left us, they went to Tarabuco, a market town near Sucre, purchased a donkey and walked back to Sucre in 3 more

Ed and June are very thoughtful people, and this is reflected in their project. We were well looked after, and kept busy learning how to build stone walls, and other aspects of building too. Bolivian builders were our teachers, and lunch time football teammates, which helped us feel relaxed and at ease. The campsite is a great place to unwind at more
Ben and Sarah were welcome volunteers in the early days of our project. Ben's skill as a tree surgeon came in particularly handy helping us to train the few unruly trees on our land. They also worked hard on starting the foundations for the toilet/shower block, helping to upgrade the volunteers' campsite.
Arthur Duncan stayed with us for 6 days until we asked him to leave, having only worked 2 days. We thought he was leaving to catch a bus to another part of Bolivia and left him in our apartment with instructions to hand the keys to our landlady. We went away for 2 days but he found out that the buses were not running, and he was in bed in our more
