Area: WaikatoWe live on a 70 Hectare block of family owned land. At present there are only two permanent households. We live off grid and aim for low consumption and a low environmental impact lifestyle, influenced by sustainability and permaculture principles. We are still refining our house, gardening and energy systems(windmill, solar panels, solar water heating) . The property is a mix of regenerating native bush and cleared paddocks, and is very steep with beautiful views of the Hauraki Gulf. It also fronts onto a small tidal beach which offers great swimming, fishing and boating. We have an 8m catamaran that we sail as often as we can. A little work on the sailboat means a day trip to the small islands nearby...well worth a bit of elbow grease! There are also a couple of kayaks and other small craft for closer to shore adventuring .
Area: San Benito Peten GuatemalaWe opened November 2011. Our first year we provided 6,820 kilometers of bicycle tours, 512 hours of English classes, planted 360 trees and 242 organic veggie gardens, raised 36 chickens and 5 goats, brought hundreds of participants from 28 different countries into our Partner Communities, benefiting 1500 families and dozens of locally-owned small businesses. During our first year, we removed more than a ton of garbage from our Partner Communities, opened two new Community Centers, provided the first non-profit ecotourism trips to Tikal, El Mirador and, of course, our secret spots all around Lake Peten Itza. With the support of our Partner Communities and hundreds of participants, our first year was a success. We are a cooperative of Guatemalan women, a registered Guatemalan non-profit and a pending 501(c)3 --- an association of family, friends and neighbors who serve their community and nature. Every cent that enters our programs and projects goes directly to communities, programs and projects that cultivate good things. Yes, we accept male participants too :) - someone asked, once.

We can host couples, individuals or even a family of 4. We need your help for making a traditional stone fence for our garden and creating a terrace with cement/mortar in front of the house to avoid plants grow in front of the main entrance. We also need fixing a roof in the shed. We also need someone used to work with garden tools like trimmers, brush saws, cutting the edges etc as we need to bring the garden back to good shape! We are a 2 adults and 2 boys, aged 12 and 14. We work in the educational field and like enrolling in open air activities (walking, swimming, skating, playing tennis, skiing, going to the beach...), playing board games and reading. We are Catalan, from nearby Barcelona, so we all speak Catalan and Spanish as natives. Moreover, all of us speak English quite well and I can also speak fluently French and Italian, while Vicent is fluent in German. The kids can also express themselves in French, but with some difficulties. We had two workawayers with us in summer 2012 and we enjoyed very much hosting them! This is why we thought of having one or two again in 2015. We fell in love with Brittany many years ago, because of the wonderful landscapes, old cities and towns, its people and the way they keep alive their traditions and their music and dances....and are sure you will enjoy the place, too!
