Area: MunsterSmall organic garden - 4 acres. Private school in home. 6 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse in the middle of Tipperary countryside. I'm a teacher (French and English), have 4 children (29, 20, 18, 13). We have lived in France and Kenya and are open minded and fun. Our home is often full of friends and family from Ireland and France. This would be the ideal family athmosphere for someone who likes the great outdoors, wants to improve or begin their English. A couple or two friends would also be suitable. We are located half way between Dublin and Cork.
Area: Taller - departement Les Landes - region Aquitaine, FranceWork in progress : collecting chestnuts, some gardening, and prepare the cob walls plastering in the barn. Before reading all, we have two important conditions : - We have been contacted by a lot of people who would do any kind of work as they only want to improve their language skills. We are okay with this but we prefer to greet people who are really interested in sustainable living, nature, animals, human beings .... Language improvement is something that will naturally occur when you go abroad ! - We can't greet persons under 18 yo, for responsibility matter. Hello workawayer ! We are a French family : Gaelle(30) and Cedric(36), Doris(10) is Cedric's Daughter And Serge(63), Gaelle's father "the baker" living with us since early 2012. We live in small village of 500 inhabitants called Taller, in the Southwest of France, in department called "Les Landes". It's 20min driving from the sea, 1 hour from Basque country and Pyrenees mountains. There are some bicycle ways around and thousands of pathways in the pine-tree forest. We've been working as independent for 10 years and tired of the "head over heels" enslaving money system we decided a few years ago to change our way of life to a more natural and human friendly way. We have built our wooden house alone and we've been living in for 5 years. It's not completely finished and that's a good news because it gives us a chance to live in a continuously new house !. It's a low energy "green" house and very comfortable anyway. We have water from a well (natural and potable), heated with solar panels for the shower. We are still connected to the grid for electricity but most of it comes from our old photovoltaic cells and we wish to be off-grid one day building a wind-generator. The house is heated by a rocket-stove mass heater, and the wood we burn in is picked on our land. We use to make everything from scratch and enjoy to learn new skills and sharing them. We have finished 2 years ago building a straw-bale house for Serge. He is a baker and now retired, and we are luck to have him with us to cook bread, pizzas and loads of pastry ! He has an old-fashioned wood-fire bake oven you can see on our profile picture. Now we enjoyed so much building with straw, we're fixing our old barn and insulating it with straw too. All from reclaimed materials like pallets, old nails, reclaims beams, old doors, clay etc .... so exciting to build "new" with old stuff ! We live on a 1.3 hectare land and we are developing things around nature to improve our food and energy autonomy. We collect informations from everywhere and experiment all we can. Sometimes we fail, then we try again, probably the best way to learn. - We have chickens who give eggs we eat (we don't eat our chickens !) - horses (lawnmower n°1) with who we go for trips in the village with the horse cart and one old pony. - 6 goats (3 mothers, 1 male and 3 babies)who give us milk almost all year (from July to December) - 3 lovely dogs, very playful and really a part of our family Doris has a nanny rabbit, very cute and sweet. We love our animals and can't imagine to eat them one day ! We have prepared a vegetable garden to produce our own food based on permaculture biodynamic ideas. It's important for us to know what we eat and to keep our soil alive. Gaelle is an excellent cook and if you think that vegetarian food is boring, you will probably change your mind after 2 days at home ! So yes we are vegetarian and will only provide vegetarian food. It means you won't see meat or fishes in your plates at home. We respect people's opinion, and our way to change the world is to show you how life can be different, and then everyone is free to make his own choice. We're experimenting different recipes of raised beds everywhere on our land, it's a good way to create a fertile soil pretty fast and also thousands different things. It can seem to be a lot of work for some persons but it's such a pleasure to do real things that have a sense that you can be active all day with not too much effort. But we love to take our time too. We enjoy talking and have pleasure so share a good drink around a fire or a good meal. We are very interested too in how life can be in your place, how you feel about beings, what are your projects, about your travels. We have made the choice to be geographically steady with all the things we have to take care of and workawayers help us to travelling through your experiences ! We greet people at home first because it's a great pleasure and then because we do everything by hand and it requires -a lot of hands- !! Besides work, that is mostly outside, we ask you to participate in minimum house keeping (dish-washing, tidying...) We like to go the sea, especially by bicycle (1.30 hour cycling in the forest) and even if it's a great pleasure to sunbathe and swim in summer, we'll show you how beautiful it can be all year long. Doris and our Dogs love to meet new friends and play outside, you'll probably be requested to express your child side ! If you are musician, be welcome, we have a piano and guitars that Cedric tries sometimes to practise ! For the work you'll help us to do, we'll offer you food and accommodation. We have a clothes-washing-machine solar powered so you can wash you clothes at home. We advice you to take old clothes because some work can be dirty, clay plastering for example. There are a few interesting things to visit in the surroundings : a small pub, old church, lavoir (where people used to wash clothes by hands), a little stream, and forest everywhere. We have some bicycles you can use and you can do horse-riding if you have skills too.
Area: VictoriaWe run a working sheep and beef farm near Mansfield at the foot of the Great Dividing Range in North East Victoria. We run approx 20,000 sheep, and 2,000 head of cattle on 6,500 acres of grazing land. Owner: Married with 3 young children.
Area: Languedoc RoussillonWe are a small family of two, middle-aged professionals who live in a large house in a small wine-growing village in the Languedoc in the South of France. From Easter 2015, we are looking for help around our home. I am an English teacher, who teaches English to overseas (often French) students on an absorption basis between Easter and the end of October. Absorption Basis means that the students live with us and take all their meals with us over a period of one, two or three weeks. The student also socialises with us and I often take them out for half day trips. This leaves little or no time for cooking, cleaning and shopping. Because of my job, we are obliged to speak English AND watch English TV all of the time so we are not therefore looking for someone who wishes to improve their French. The confidence to shop would be wonderful though. My husband, Peter, is an estate agent who also works long hours. He speeds in and out of the house, meeting clients and lawyers in equal measures! We have an elderly, totally daft and friendly cocker spaniels and a barn cat! Our house is well organised and both I and my husband are good cooks. We are happy, therefore, to teaching some cooking skills when we have the time. There are no major league renovations to do here. However, non-smokers are essential as I am an asthmatic whose asthma is triggered by cigarette smoke. The village here is small - about 500 residents - but we have some facilities including a chemist, supermarket, doctors, etc. We also have a bus service to Carcassonne at one end and Narbonne at the other end. The countryside around is beautiful, surrounded as we are by vineyards and stunning scenery. This is a large house with large gardens and a swimming pool.
Area: Porto and NorthWe have a Hostel in Porto center that receives guests as they were at Home. Is a warm and friendly house but with much work to do ! We have a garden and serve vegetarian meals. We have 3 persons working here, two cats and one dog!
