    Description

We are a water access only eco retreat on Nelson Island, in the mouth of Jervis Inlet on the Sunshine Coast. Our place includes a 3 acre private island, 20 acres of wilderness on Nelson Island and one of the only pebble beaches in the area with warm shallow swimming waters, deep water moorage and comfortable camping spots.

We provide affordable, eco-friendly accommodations and a laid back vibe, for visitors to experience and the natural beauty and wilderness of the Sunshine Coast. We are completely off-grid and are trying to encourage sustainable eco-tourism. We harvest solar, wind and rainwater to provide our power and water supply.

4 years ago, we hand built our main lodge, which is a 1,500 square foot wood framed Yurt with a communal kitchen / living areas and bathroom. Our guests rent one of 2 rooms in the main yurt, or a prospector tent. Accommodation for volunteers is a micro cabin / outdoor kitchen area down on the beach, on one of the best spots on the island. With the help of our amazing volunteers, we've been able to get so much done, including cutting trails, building composting toilets, drift wood stair ways and furniture, and the start of our veggie garden.

We've still got lots to do, including building decks and platforms, trails and access stairs, finishing carpentry work and we always need wood splitting for the fire. We also have a website to manage and have various art / gardening projects on the go.

We usually arrange a minimum of a 2 week stay with volunteers, and if there is a great fit are open to people who can stay longer. We exchange great food and lodging, for a minimum of 25 hours a week. We tend to have family style meals, and are keen to share cooking and housekeeping duties, so bring your "signature dish" with you. We have limited space for volunteers so would suit a couple travelling together or single person.

We don't have a strict work schedule as priorities change daily, usually dictated by the weather, and there is generally multiple projects going on. You will see what is expected of you by sharing in the work of all and will have spare time to hike, kayak, fish, swim, or any other leisure activity you prefer. The day generally starts after everyone has surfaced, been fed and watered. Meals are usually a family style combined effort, a chance to swap stories and have a laugh.

On going projects not limited to:

    - Housekeeping - help with cleaning and generally keeping the place tidy.
    - Hospitality, looking after guests and helping with kayak and SUP rentals
    - Running the outdoor kitchen / oyster shack down on the beach.
