Description

A 200 acre eco-property on the banks of the Little River - just 90 minutes north-east of Melbourne in the central highlands of Victoria. Home to 200 species of native wildlife, it provides volunteers a great opportunity to experience the magic of the Australian bush. The lifestyle is relaxed, the location and scenery beautiful ... and the work we do based upon environmental sustainability:

1. Interactive Ecotourism :
We provide guest accommodation to domestic and international holidaymakers, encouraging them to appreciate and learn more about our natural environment and its unique inhabitants.

2. Sustainable Agriculture :
We breed Llamas & Horses.

3. Wildlife Conservation :
A registered wildlife refuge, with selected areas of the property developed as native wildlife habitat. We operate a rehabilitation and release program for injured and orphaned wildlife.

Work

We always need additional helping hands ... so volunteers (generally a couple) are much appreciated. We request 14 hours work per volunteer per week,(spread over 2- ½ days) leaving the rest of the week free for our volunteers to do as they wish.

Tasks include gardening, guiding guests on Llama Eco-Treks, firewood collection, chainsawing, cleaning our guest cottage and the homestead, property maintenance, assistance with conservation projects; removal of invasive weeds; and maintaining our wildlife facilities.

In exchange, we provide our volunteer couple with their own private, self-contained, fully-furnished bluestone cottage - with woodfire, satellite TV, DVD + CD players, wireless internet access, (BYO laptops) fully-equipped kitchen, outdoor gas BBQ and creekside gazebo.

We supply mountain bikes and tennis racquets for our volunteers to use whilst here and encourage them to enjoy the property and all its facilities. Activities include: cycling; tennis; fishing; boating; bush-walking; bird-watching; wildlife spotting and more!

We have an extensive orchard and vegetable garden – and our volunteers are welcome to select seasonal fruit and vegetables whenever they wish – but they are required to provide (and cook) whatever other food they need … and to keep their cottage clean and tidy at all times.

Paid work : There is seasonal, paid, part-time / casual work available locally, and this is advertised in the 2 local papers. We also provide you with a list of local businesses to contact.

What else ...

As far as outdoor recreation is concerned, we're well placed.

In summer, if you're interested in boating, fishing or any form of water sports, the magnificent inland waterway of Lake Eildon (6 times larger than Sydney Harbour) is within easy reach.

During winter there is excellent cross-country skiing at nearby Lake Mountain. Down-hill skiing is available a little further afield on the pristine slopes of Mt Buller.

Bushwalkers, rock-climbers are catered for al. The Cathedral Range State Park is just outside our gates ... whilst Lake Eildon National Park is only a 20-minute drive to our north

Length of stay : We prefer long-term volunteers (from 3-6 months) ... but
please note : there is no public transport locally, so volunteers must have their own car (and an international drivers licence).

Please contact us if you'd like to know more. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
