Área: Coimbra and CenterI bought Terra Ananda in 2011. To me it is a beautiful place with a nice atmosphere and a lot of potential. It does need a lot of tender loving care though. So far I have realised the basic things that make it possible for me to live here, a functional bathroom and kitchen. Right now I am renovating one of the smaller buildings that will function as sleeping/livingroom until the rest of the house is finished. For the period of April - October 2014 I will be happy to have volunteers who can help me finish the renovation that is currently in progress as well as help with transforming the current storage space into the future art studio (I am a painter - google jolinemaria). The land is organic by neglect. I wish to transform it into a beautiful lush garden of Eden. Volunteers with gardening skills and especialy landscapers are also very welcome. The immediate surroundings are beautiful and great for walking, a swimming spot at the river is 30 walking minutes away. On your free days I can bring you to Nelas trainstation from which it is easy to travel to f.i. Coimbra or the seaside. If you are interested in hiking in the Serra da Estrela mountains or canooing on one of the rivers I can arrange that for you. In summer I go quite often to a riverbeach to swim and enjoy the hot sulphouros springs there. The village where my property is located has 2 cafe's annex shops. A WIFI connection is in a next village (10 min on bike). I am out of the rat race and into arts, spirituality and easy living. I practise yoga and meditation. I cook vegetarian.
Área: ConnachtCome and join me on my six acre smallholding on a hill 25 km from Sligo. There's a cat, dog, one chicken and lots and lots of fruit trees and bushes, rhubarb and other trees (mostly alder, willow, birch). If you are interested in Irish culture, I am one of only four or five Hosts in all Ireland that can speak the Irish language. Please take note: I need helpers who are able to start work early and work hard and enthusiastically. I am an honest and a fair man, but not a rich man. If this is too much hassle for you, do not waste your time (and mine) by writing to me. Availability: Looking for help NOW! (March). PLEASE;PLEASE; PLEASE DON`T WRITE TO ME IN ENGLISH; IF YOU KNOW ANY OTHER LANGUAGE; even a minority language. I can translate any language using Computers, and it will be a pleasure. just let me know what language you are using, and we´ll take it from there. The aim is to establish a forest garden with a wide range of edible and useful plants, and eco-friendly, low energy accomodation. There is an awful long way to go yet, but a start has been made. The disadvantages include extremely primitive accomodation and washing facilities, swarms of bloodsucking insects, lots and lots of rain, wind, cold, hailstones and clouds, hard physical work outdoors, remote location, BUT: I'm flexible on work hours and days (as long as you work well and fast), and almost always have availability to take helpers! If you want to learn or improve your English, I will be helpful, but can only guarantee two hours per day of English conversation (with me). The rest of your english language learning must come either from other helpers, radio, ipod or by you making the effort to visit the local village and talk english there. I much prefer speaking Irish (Gaelic) and if you want to learn a few words, it will be a pleasure. NO internet (nearest public internet is 8km away). NO television. Compost toilet (yes, the bucket has to be emptied regularly!). Wash yourself with a bowl of hot water and soap, or try the outdoor bath (light a fire underneath and in half an hour you have a very warm bath). There are a couple of bikes for the use of helpers. To encourage helpers to take good care of the bikes I request a 50 euro damage deposit, fully refundable if you return the bike in working order. (If you hit a pothole while using the bike, you can buckle the wheel badly, and a new wheel is 40 euro!)
Área: Porto and NorthThis is a nice Hostel in Porto City run by a family. We are looking for you to make part of our staff. We are hard workers, responsible, very organized and friendly. We like to work with the same kind of people.
Área: MindoWe live near Mindo, a place well known in Ecuador for its nature, rivers and birdwatching possibilities, it's called the “rainforest in the mountains”. We are a family of 5 and have a 45 ha piece of land 40 minutes away from town. The land is bordered by a big river, some small rivers and has about 35 ha of untouched rainforest. We keep bees, chickens, goats, pigs and have two big dogs and two cats. Our veggies and animals are organically grown, we try to live in a self-sustainable way as much as possible. We are not vegetarian, but in practice only eat meat perhaps twice a month. We make our own bread and prepare all food from scratch and with fresh ingredients. There is a wooden house for the family and another one for the volunteers, two rivers, 2 acres of banana and coffee, some acres of pasture, a veggie garden, two greenhouses and many more acres of virgin cloud forest. There is no wifi, no phone, no electricity (we do have a generator to charge phones, etc). There sure is running water (from a natural spring), a compost toilet and a WARM shower. We also run a small café and shop in town, so help is sometimes needed there too. There are many things to do: feeding and caring for the animals, taking care of the veggies, some maintenance and building work, clearing, planting and reforesting, preparing food, some occasional childminding. Some important info: 1. There are no fees and cost involved in volunteering with us 2. There are most likely other volunteers here at the same time 3. Depending on what the job is work starts early or very early 4. The work is diverse: gardening, planting, building things, animal care, preparing food, harvesting; ocasionally it could also include some childcare and helping running the coffee and shop. 5. We request a minimum stay of 2 weeks If you would like to be part of our project, please drop us a line telling us a bit about your interests and especially skills like “I can flap my ears”, “I can cook a dinner for 12 with only water and grass” or “I can carve wooden doves out of a beer can”. We would very much appreciate your time and your help. Genny, Ingo and Family
