We are a middle aged couple with a large house and garden situated within walking distance of the village of St.Pere de Ribes, 4 kms. from the sea-side resort of Sitges and 35 kms. south of Barcelona. Located on the edge of the Garraf National Park surrounded by mountains and vineyards. Not isolated but with few neighbours and a small multi-language community who get together at a nearby bar/restaurant. We are English, are great animal lovers and have dogs and cats . We are smokers and non-vegetarians but respect those who are not. Our family consists of two working sons - one and home and one not but need extra hands with the garden, painting and repairs. There is a self contained apartment and we supply all meals and refreshments in exchange for a 4 hour mornings work with 1 day off. Experienced hosts with a preference for a boy and girl couple finding this a good combination for light/heavier work. APRIL AND MAY - due to an unforseen cancellation we are looking for a boy and girl couple for approx two, three or four weeks dates flexible. We need help in the garden, painting and general maintenance

Area: Hautes Pyrenees, bordering the Haute Garonne

Three years ago we moved from a different region to this property just over an hour to the south-west of Toulouse. My husband is not a DIY person, but does love the garden. We really could do with some help on all sorts of levels and hope to find somebody who would enjoy being part of a happy and homely environment, together with the experience of being in France for a while.

Area: Idaho

We are a Jewish am ha' aretz family on a small organic (non-certified) farmstead in the foothills of the Rocky mountains in north-central Idaho. We are near the Clearwater River and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. We have a large vegetable garden and raise, goats, pigeons, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and our most special crop, and the reason we live the simple life we do, is our children. Our goal is to raise our family in a healthy, country, close to the earth kind of way. Animals, gardening, baking, making cheese, herbal remedies, natural food preservation, bio-dynamic gardening methods....This takes so much time and effort, but it is so much fun. Having volunteers is wonderful for us. We love getting to know other cultures, sharing stories, experiment with new ideas and having the help has been an amazing blessing. As of right now we are enjoying our beautiful spring time in the Rockies. Snowing one minute, sunshine the next, gentle showers the next day. We are enjoying our time in our sauna which is complete on the inside but needing a few finishing touches on the outside. :) The hoop house is still supplying us with fresh greens which we planted last fall, and we are in the midst of planting starts for this years' garden. The goats will be kidding in the next couple of weeks and then it will be back to making cheese! Yea! We love to share our little town with those that visit. The Clearwater river is just a few minutes away. With fishing, swimming and boating. Hot springs are about an hour and half drive up river. Also nearby is the Nez Perce Tribal Reservation, so exploring there can be fun as well. There is tons of wildlife to experience, deer, turkeys, elk, the occasional moose, black bears, cougars wolves, and plenty of other smaller creatures to enjoy. Stays of at least 1 or 2 weeks are suggested. If things work out well we are open to extended stays. We love community. We expect Workawayers to put in 5 to 6 hours of work a day and since we are Jewish each Sabbath (Saturday) is a day off. We try to leave plenty of time for fun. Transportation from Lewiston ID and Missoula MT areas may be possible. Languages spoken here are English, some Spanish, and a smattering of Hebrew. We are very family friendly and children are more than welcome, as we have a bunch of our own. We are able to accommodate vegetarian and gluten free diets.

Area: Ometepe Island, Nicaragua

A quaint well-appointed hotel in one of the most remote parts of Ometepe — and Nicaragua for that matter. Mérida is a tiny community, home to a mere 1,522 people, 3,602 chickens, 660 dogs, 473 pigs, 243 cows, 32 yellow crested parrots, 10 goats, and a handful of monkeys. The hotel is a profit-generating business that caters mostly to the backpacker and long-term traveler crowd. It’s owned and operated by Alvaro Molina, a Nicaraguan-American who aspires to use his hotel to kickstart a bilingual education system on Ometepe. Alvaro started out by offering English classes to children and young people through the hotel, and he’s currently in the process of building school classrooms to support a more formalized program. This year the preschool started and every year a group will be added. To help in these efforts, Alvaro runs a small-scale program through which volunteers can teach English to local children. In addition to the focus on education, we support and organizes a variety of projects in the hopes of providing Ometepe with a bright future. These include scientific studies of our island's wildlife, conservation projects, efforts to provide veterinary care for pets on the island, and medical missions to care for Ometepe's human inhabitants. Weprovides funds for a certified non-profit organization. By channeling the profits to the Foundation, the non-profit avoids administration costs required to organize fundraising.
