Area: AndaluciaWe are a middle aged couple who emigrated to Andalucia ten years ago. Our children are now adult and living in the UK. We run a busy business providing varied services to holiday guests in the area and have little time to look after and maintain our own home. We are looking for individuals who are sociable but able to use initiative when alone to assist with some home maintenance, painting and gardening. (You don't have to have all three skills). We are living in the mountains of Andalucia at the crossroads of the cities Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba and Malaga. We have a small hamlet less than 1km from the Hamlet boasting two very good bars and a ten minute drive from the village which has every amenity needed. We enjoy a varied diet and enjoy sharing an evening meal and a glass of wine. We provide a basic grocery pack for lunch and continental breakfast. Our traditional Andalusian home has a separate one bedroom cottage for your use and we have a jacuzzi available outside of the coldest months. We have Spanish neighbours who are sociable and happy to chat to anyone who has the time. We are extremely happy living in this area and would welcome sharing a little of our life with others.
Area: CaliforniaWe are accepting work-traders for the month of May. Currently we have openings for May 5, 2014-May 19, 2014 We are a small farm in the steep hills outside of Jackson CA. Permaculture ethics and principles guide our practices. We have a strong desire to learn through experience and implement these discoveries on a daily basis. We are 100% off grid, using wood and solar energy for heating of space and water. Photovoltaic systems create 100% of our power. We use spring fed hydraulic pumps to irrigate a 2 acre garden and orchard on a steep terraced ridge. We are looking for helpers to stay for two weeks or longer. The minimum stay is 10 days. We produce about 80% of the food we eat which means we cannot always accommodate dietary restrictions. We are located in the central Sierra Nevada Foothills. We are close to rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and river experiences. Our core group here works to manifest a sustainable path which sometimes does not leave much time for recreation. As some have said, "we get after it and take care of business enjoying every moment". Farm Activities: terracing, gardening, orchard care, llama, hugelkultur bed creation, irrigation, vegetable and fruit harvest, construction, beekeeping, honey extraction, educational workshops, mushroom cultivation, plant propagation, cooking, cleaning, fun, enjoyment, learning, sharing, etc... About the proprietor - I am a U.S. citizen in my 30s who has worked in agricultural most of life. I have also worked as a journalist, professional tour guide, rock climbing rescue worker, interpreter, translator, University of CA Farm Advisor and currently do a little side work as a Permaculture Design Consultant. I dedicate the vast majority of my time to this project, which is focused on research and education as well as productivity. I am passionate about education, learning and sharing with others. We work closely with my brother and parents as well as a tight network of other regional 'organic' farms. I have lived and worked extensively in many parts of Latin America where I maintain close ties with other agriculturalists. This project is part of a network of positive change in the Americas.
Area: MadridThere are two children in my family. My elder son is currently in Ireland for this academic year. My daughter is 13, studying in high school. My wife teaches technical drawing in high school and I work as an engineer in the railway industry. Oh, I almost forget it, there is also Kika our small dog. We are open, friendly and enjoy travelling abroad. We enjoy home-exchange; last summer we went to Stockholm and previously to London.
Area: We are situated in Byrne Valley, Richmond, Kwazulu Natal. A very beautiful, serene and picturesque area with natural grasslands, indigenous forest and a small village of mainly retired people. There are beautiful walks we would be happy to show you and a horse for horse rides. We are a family of four living on a twenty hectare Organic Farm. Our aim is to be as self-sufficient as possible and farm in a morally responsible manner. We have +/- twenty cows which we milk, eat and use as fertilisors; four breeding pigs; in-numeral chickens for eggs, meat and as de-tickers; a flock of geese. The herd of goats is for land-clearing and milk; the horse, mule and donkey for grazing rotation. Our three dogs besides being pets are for breeding. We also have a few hives of bees for honey. We grow our own vegetables in our large vegetable garden. We have two children, who are home schooled, so volunteers who enjoy children are especially welcome.
