Area: Languedoc RoussillonI am a single mum living with my 16 year old son in a small village of 200 people in a beautiful part of South West France. The house is a typical old stone house (between 3-500 years old I think) , with lots of ongoing maintenance needed which I need help with! I have two older children who have left home but visit occasionally, a dog and 2 cats. I can offer the use of a bicycle. I have one double and one single bedroom for you to stay in. The main help I need at the moment is painting
Area: We live in the centre of town Pucon, Chile and the project is just outside in the mountains. We are an English family living in Pucon, Chile who need help with an exciting eco build. Our project is closing on the 9th June for 3 or 4 months. But we would love you to come for the last week or so of our project before we close. It's going to be a busy final week with plenty of celebration as we get the roof on. We are an easy overnight bus journey from santiago (and cheap at from 8,000 pesos). We are also taking enquiries for volunteers who want to come from sept/oct when we open again. It is an earth bag house that is earth-bermed, (partially underground) with many eco and permaculture design principles such as solar alignment for passive solar heating, sustainable local materials, rocket stove and living roof. We are looking for volunteers who would like to help and learn about eco building. It's a great time to be on the project as we are putting the roof on and planning a big topping out party this weekend (end May). We are also working on the earth bag dome and the walls are coming in fast to meet in the middle, you will learn some interesting techniques and learn enough to build a dome yourself. It is a fun project, but don't take my word for it, see our feedback from our volunteers. It can be hard work but we play hard too. We have a mix of professional eco builders and volunteers. It is a great group and we have a big mix of nationalities...so on site is a good place to practise your Spanish (English, French or even Swedish!). We are all living in a beautiful hostel in the town of Pucon. We have taken the whole place just for our project. We also have wifi! We prepare all meals for you, a varied breakfast choice (with usually something hot), hot sandwich for lunch, afternoon cake and a filling super (usually with wine and beer). Also if anyone wants to help with cooking instead of, or as well as building then that would be good too. We are not smokers but you can smoke outside, lots of the volunteers do.
