Description
We are a Norwegian/Dutch couple both retired. We have 3 adult daughters and 2 grandchildren, who come home every now and then for the weekend. We have transformed a "pigsty" into a comfortable house. We built our house with ecological materials and did most of the work ourselves. We have transformed another barn into an appartment for two guests which we rent out as a B&B.
We have a large garden, 3 (Ouessant) mini sheep, two labradors, two cats and chickens.

Aide
We are looking for people who can help us in the garden, do some cleaning in and around the house, help with general maintenance work, (timberwork, painting etc.), walk the dogs, saw and chop wood etc.
We are not vegetarians but eat little meat.
As a workawayer you will be part of our family, so we expect guest to participate in all the usual household chores, like doing the dishes, cleaning the house etc.
We have our meals together, breakfast, lunch and diner. We like company, but we also like our privacy in the evenings.
We have bikes at the disposal of the work awayers. if you want to visit one of the cities in the area you have to take the train.

Hébergement
You will be staying in a small caravan in the yard with a double bed when the weather alowes it. When it is to cold to sleep in the caravan you can sleep in a small bedroom for two upstairs in the house. Upstairs there is an extra living area at your disposal. You share our (large) bathroom with us.

We live in the east of Holland in beautiful countryside, an area well known for (mountain) biking, walking, and horse riding. The area is famous for its 8 mansions. The nearest small village, Vorden, is about 3 1/2 kilometers away. The nearest city is Zutphen, a nice "Hanze" city, 7 minutes by train or 45 minutes by bicycle. The area is rural, so don't expect a wild city live.

We've spent 10 days in Jitsche and Håkan house. During that time, both of them made us feel home every single minute. Jitsche and Håkan are friendly and warm people. Kostas was relaxed company. He did a great job chopping wood, even though he didn't seem to like the work that much, he kept on going till he was finished and all the wood was ready for use. Although it was only for a very short period we really enjoyed Amanda staying with us! Amanda is very easy going and did her very best plastering the wall of the B&B. And that is not an easy job! Besides that and the weeding she made us a very nice vegetarian meal. A shame she couln't stay longer.

I had a fantastic time with Jitsche and Håkan and could not have hoped for a better first workaway experience. They were very patient with my "attempt" to speak Dutch and made me feel a part of their family for the time I was there. Shaun stayed with us for several weeks doing a great job helping Håkan timbering in the B&B to be. After that Shaun did a amazing job painting our boat, leaving it ready to set sail! In the mean time he tried hard to learn some Dutch, not the easiest language to learn. We enjoyed his company and hope he will drop by on the way back home!

these people are amazing and lovely and the land is a beautiful bit of oasis of nature and I loved helping and I feel more well rounded of a person having shared space and time with this lovely family... the shoats are amazing... as are the pooches and the cool cat... they are really great people...
