    Description

We are a cafe and restaurant located in the 1000-year-old Old Quarter of Hanoi, Vietnam. We focus on healthy pan-European comfort food that caters for customers with alternative diets (vegan, gluten free, etc), although we do also have meat dishes too.

We're in a beautiful 100 year old French colonial house in a quiet side-street away from the main tourist area. We've been around for 12 years and have consistently been a top-rated restaurant (according to TripAdvisor, and now Google Maps).

Our kitchen staff are often graduates from KOTO (Know One, Teach One) and Hoa Sua social enterprises providing hospitality training to underprivileged youth. We also have chefs from a range of backgrounds. They'd love some international experience!

    What's in it for you?
    - learning about rare Vietnamese food. Most Vietnamese restaurants outside of Vietnam focus on southern Vietnamese dishes (from wartime refugees). Hanoi, in the north, has it's own range of dishes that most people know nothing about. Our staff meals are always Vietnamese dishes - this is learning time if you want to introduce these dishes back home!!
    - watching these young adults flourish before your eyes!
    - learning basic Vietnamese language
    - learning about Vietnamese workplace practises
    - the opportunity to help in a pseudo-head chef and advisor role (if you've never had this opportunity before)
    - be able to attend Vietnamese traditional gatherings, home visits, etc.
in general, Hanoi will make you question a lot of things about life! It's an interesting place.

We are looking for a chef with a few years experience to improve kitchen systems and demonstrate good work practises to our team of mainly young chefs. The schools in Hanoi give students some practical experience and technical skills, however, real-kitchen heat-of-battle work practises and kitchen management are not dealt with so much. We would like our young team to gain these skills by working with a chef with at least 5 years experience who provides advice in the form of example (we're assuming you don't speak Vietnamese, and most of our kitchen staff don't speak English).

You would be helping alongside our staff during normal shifts, preparing food for customers in order to provide instruction through example. There is also opportunity to develop the menu, or even run a pop-up.

We are an entry-level restaurant for our chefs who hope to go on to work for 5-star hotels, open up their own restaurants, and the like. The information you can provide for them will be critical in them accessing more opportunity.

No cowboys! Cultural sensitivity a must. If you can't control your temper - don't apply!

Hanoi is a big city with an emergent art scene sprouting up. If you are into food, then this city is foodie heaven. So many interesting dishes and lots of rare things to discover. Socially, it has a big enough expat scene that you can easily meet new people all the time and there are lots of bars, cafes and restaurants to explore. It's a good base to explore nearby Ha Long Bay and Sapa, though really, they are the most mainstream, obvious places to go - there are much more interesting places to discover.

It's a chaotic city. If lack of order freaks you out, don't come here!
