Région: Ticino/TessinBea and Carlos is a nice couple living in a big house with two appartments with a beautiful view (mountains and lake), a big garden, a lovely little dog. South of Switzerland,Italian speaking region but also German speaking.
Région: BrittanyI live in a small detached house in Glomel which is situated in the Côtes-d'Armor Brittany in northwestern France. Surrounded by woodlands, with a large lake, the Curong Dam and within easy walking distance of the Nantes-Brest canal there is plenty of opportunity for walking, hiking, cycling and fishing. Not far from Rostrenen with its weekly market every Tuesday and Carhaix Plouger if you fancy a spot of shopping in a larger town the area has plenty to offer in the day time. There isn't a nightlife to speak of so be prepared for evenings spent at home. There are plenty of interesting places to visit during your stay, Guingmap with its antique shops, Binic, a small coastal town with shops, restaurants and a ice cream parlour boasting 50'Flavours. Visit the gigantic boulders of Huegoat forest, climb down into the devils cave or climb the 'trembling rock' and see if you can get it to move. The walled port city of St Malo provides restaurants, shops and market stalls. Famous for is piracy in the past it has amazing sandy beaches, a must in the summer months. I took early retirement last year and came to Brittany to explore and learn the language, most of the major work on the house is done but it's in need of decorating and as I have no DIY skills I'm really looking for someone to share the basic stuff like painting, wallpapering and generally making the place feel homely, I have a garden which has been cleared but I need some help here as well with levelling it out and putting in some raised beds. I'm not a stickler for hours worked rather it's a case of getting a job done whilst exploring the area and having some downtime to relax, chat and share experiences, if you speak French or want to improve your English that's a plus but not a necessity. I love to cook, travel and enjoy meeting new people. I have 4 cats which you probably won't see much of and a 17 month old Beauceron called Jaques who, although fairly well trained lives for being taken for long walks through the woods. The area is rural and if your not the outdoor type there isn't a great deal to do locally but I have excellent Internet coverage, English TV and a lot of walls that need painting.

Région: AlgarveOur farm is located in the Serra de Monchique. This is a mountain range in the north west of the Algarve. We are on the north side of the mountain Foia, at an altitude of around 400m. The land is facing south with an open view through a widening valley to the west. It has a mild climate. Although the temperature can go down in winter to 10 celsius during the day and 5 celsius at night (from mid December until February). Occasionally there can be some frost. The small town, Monchique , has all necessities: shops, supermarket, bars, swimming pool (free in summer), internet shop, restaurants. Beaches are 30 km to the south and 30 km to the west. There are lots of interesting cultural sites to visit. Portugal has a long and very interesting history. Our land is about 6km from the town of Monchique. Our farm is 3.4 ha of size (8.4 acres). The terrain is steep and has a wonderful view to the west coast. The difference in height of highest and lowest point is 130m. About 1 ha has a lot of small terraces on which we grow fruit trees and vegetables. The rest is bushland, hidden terraces, medronho and cork oak-land, riverbed and sides. Most of this part still needs to be cleared. We are Sativa organic certified for fruit trees and in transition for the vegetables. Our work is inspired by organic farming and permaculture. We try to become self sustainable. We have two cats and two goats. The goats help us clearing the land and will hopefully give milk next year. Working on our project has been a long and creative process. We worked it out along the way. The rebuilding of the house, the improvements on the road, the planting of new Medronho trees. We did not design an overall building plan beforehand, but improvised as we went along in an organic approach. Since we do not have a large funding this was partly a necessity. We see it this way: make a move, experience the move, get inspired and make the next move. On our way we stole some principles her and there. We have been inspired by Permaculture principles and ethics, organic farming, sustainability, big architects, beautiful gardening philosophies, Buddha’s wisdom, you name it. We started our project in 2005 by restoring one of the ruins on our land, which is now our living house. In 2010 Monique moved to Portugal to build our Safaritent, make a vegetable garden and take care of the fruit trees permanently. Since then a lot of land has been cleared, we eat from our garden, the trees are growing bigger and we learned how to distill medronho (local booze) from our Arbutus Unedo (Strawberry tree) berries. We live on the farm with two people: Tom and Monique. Tom is educated as a historian and as such he was a teacher for some years. Since 1992 he works as a comedian. Together with two colleagues he runs a comedy business in Holland which is called “De Gemeentereiniging”. They perform up to 80 times a year on congresses, meetings, parties, fairs of institutions, governments and companies. Besides this Tom, as a scriptwriter, lead some video projects on demand for businesses. As a singer-songwriter he published his own album and together with the Gemeentereiniging he made a special album about and in cooperation with handicapped people. In 2011 he wrote and directed a small Portuguese comedy (“Sopa de Pedreira”) for the “Nossa Terra” movement in Monchique. Together with his partner Monique, he developed a managementttrainingcourse “Playing the manager in a laughing chair.” Together, Monique and Tom built the house at Terra do Milho and cultivated the land there. In 2012 he published with co-writer Hans van Dijck the novel “Arend en Vera”. Monique, Tom’s partner, worked in the Netherlands as a volunteer, project manager and director at the Dutch Refugee Council for 22 years. The Dutch Refugee Council is an NGO which works with professionals and volunteers. Monique has a lot of experience in working with volunteers. She liked it a lot. During her work she also experienced how to apply her knowledge of meditation in an every day work situation. In 2006 she attended a three years training program at The Five Wisdoms Institute, Wisdom@Work. This is a training program that combines personal and professional development for those in the service of others. Through this education she became specialized in 5 wisdoms in teamwork and she became a 5 wisdoms meditation instructor. Apart from this she is following teachings of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche on Hinayana and Mahayana Buddhism, which offer great meditation techniques. She is a member of the Shambhala community, where she is a meditation guide. Tom and Monique have about 30 years of gardening experience each. They love growing plants and trees. And also like to make nice dishes from the harvest. Monique is the handyman in the house. She does most of the constructing. Tom is working part-time on the farm since he still has a job in Holland. Monique is working permanently on the farm.
