Área: MayenneCOUPLE Wanted for Small fairytale castle in FRANCE Available Dates: February 15th, 2013 - April 30th COUPLES ONLY, PLEASE! We are a couple with an 11 year old child, 2 very loving dogs, chickens, 2 ponies, 1 gentle horse, a goat and fish. We are relaxed, flexible, trustworthy and friendly, and look for caretakers who share these same qualities to replace our much-loved current couple (who are moving on after a wonderful 1 year stay). Our chateau is a 150-year-old neo-Renaissance castle on 10 hectares of land in a region famed for its history and beauty. As it is neo-Renaissance (1850’s) and not medieval, it is in remarkably good condition. All of the rooms (4 main rooms + 7 bedrooms) are in a good state of repair as we have undergone a process of updating the chateau since its last restoration in the 1970s. However, given its age, it always needs maintenance in the areas of plumbing, electricity, clearing of gutters, etc. The chateau operates as a family home, occasionally hosting parties and events, and also features a holiday cottage on the grounds. The chateau is located in an idyllic location in the Western Loire Valley of France, and is only 2km away from the nearest town with everything one could want: supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, bars, even its own racecourse. The nearest city is 15km away, and features a high-speed train connection. We are only 1.5 hours SW of Paris by train. We are also equidistant to all of the castles of the Loire Valley, Mont St. Michel, the Normandy Beaches, and Brittany, as well as many attractions locally. The region is very hospitable, and we try to be as well! We care more about the ‘fit’ of the couple, in personality, skills, English-language ability and commitment, than in age. Our previous couple were a vibrant pair in their early 50's. If you are looking for a beautiful French adventure and think that you might fit our requirements, please contact us! We'd love to hear from you.
Área: Sachsen, Dresden, south of BerlinWe are a family of 6 (we are aged 39/40, kids are born 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2008). Please read the FULL profile if you want to get an answer. No Host-SPAM mails will be answered! Our project 2014: restorating an old farmhouse and convert it into a sustainable courses centre. That means some building work, insulating walls and ceilings, renovation works... ground work around the house, gardening/fruit/veggies processing, forestry work /fencing and wood splitting/cutting We have a running smallholding farm working with organic methods and permaculture. During the whole year there will be always some work on the farm like gardening, fruit processing etc. We have 6 goats and 3 sheep, geese, chicken, a husky dog named Barley and a cat. We're living in a very small village called Cortnitz (43 inhabitants) near Dresden (90 km away), about 200 km south of Berlin. We have a small garden (always some work there in 3 seasons...) and about 50 fruit trees. We do love cycling and being outdoor. Although we speak english and are keen to practice it we would prefer to use german language if the workawayer wants to learn it. We are militant non-smokers! :-) No smoking in the house, around the house or in sight of the house. No alcohol/drugs. Please no helpers with mental problems. We live rural. There are not much possibilities to have a big party around, so this place is more suitable for people who like it a bit more quiet and green and having an evening on the open campfire behind the house. If you want to go around one or two bicycles will be there for use or to reach the train station. We usually have only one or two workawayer at the same time as for us it is important to have a cultural exchange as well. Up to now we had as workawayers/helpex'ers an estonian family, Kaya from USA and Lucie from England (already 2 times) and Alexandra/Morgan from Australia, Alex from France (already 3 times!), Matthew from Australia, Amy from England, Gilbert from Spain (2 times), Francesca from Italy, Szymon from Poland, Juraj from Slovakia, Brendan from England, Ramona/Joshua from America, Thomas from England, Andrea also from England, Berry from Ireland, Jörg from northern Germany, Flora from Hungary, Cora from England, Brianna from Canada and Daniel from England... Be our next workawayer! Families welcome if you have an little extra pay for the food and accomodation. We have NO INTERNET for helpers, only in emergency or for once or twice a week you can check mails during daytime in the office (no Wlan, no skype). If you want to use the internet more often please bring your own mobile internet, T-Mobile and Vodafone have best coverage here. We are not vegetarians but we are not eating too much meat (mainly our own produced meat from goats/sheep/ducks/geese - so that is limited). We dont mind if the workawayer is vegetarian as long as he/she can handle that we are not and dont expect to cook special things for her/him. We don' buy special vegan food or lots of fruits and veggies, so if you are vegan its probably not your place to be here. Please be aware that we expect help in the household as well beside the work as this are common duties for everyone in the house (like dish washing, preparing breakfast...) without asking you every single time to do so. We try to think further then just consuming things, try to avoid unnecessary pollution of air, land, water and resources. We prefer doing things rather by hand then by machine (but we have a laundry machine, a dishwasher...). We have been to volunteering years abroad (Marie 8 month in Russia, Stefan 11 month in Papua New Guinea). We try to live with as low impact to the nature as possible. We produce our own solar energy (5 KWp), have a solar stove (for cooking during sunshine), solar heated water and do lots of other crazy things. We might not be typical germans - you may have to find out. Next train station where we could pick you up is Pommritz, next Airports Dresden, Berlin and Leipzig (trains form there). Or check mitfahrgelegenheit.de for car sharing (check for destination Bautzen).

Área: BurgundyWe are going back to live at this amazing chateau with a history. It is buzzing with energy, used to be a monastery long ago, then owned by nobles and still seems to have a special feeling. It is peaceful and nature surrounds it like its clothing. The views are spectacular rolling hills and its pureness touches everyone's heart alike. We have big beautiful outbuildings (gallery, event space) that need looking after and finding inspiring activities to do with them will be a pleasure. This time we are going to maintain it as a bed & breakfast with possibilities as an art, workshop, culture center with a touch of holistic, already established by the high quality of life it offers. We lived in Bali for a while but nothing can beat this place and its magic...come and share it with us. I am a sculptor, photographer, jewel-maker, writer. My two sons (21 and 23 years) are into creating modern music compositions and we intend to use it! They studied in France, Holland and Bali, making them internationally wise and cool to be with. We are planning something special and invite passionates to experience this with us. Burnand has a micro climate and nurturing grounds for 21 exotic orchids, making it a protected area. We generally sit outside for lunches in February(sometimes with a jacket) so life begins early in the year. We will serve travelers going down south and who are smart enough to stop over and enjoy Burgundy's secrets. This is the real France...we are aiming for people from all over the world.
