    Description

Right next to the easter border of Helsinki, the is our little oasis Majvik, where people can still feel the traditional lifestyle of living of the land with personal relation to traditional farm animals. This is a versatile biodynamic farm community with a long history of sustainable farming and lifestyle. Since the 80's community has strived for ecological lifestyle and farming. Nowadays the previous farmer couple have retired and the next generation have took the task of continuing. Our community consists of many families living in the area and the commercial farm with workers, trainees and international volunteers. We have a shared lunch every working day for neighbors, friends and farm workers . There is also communal activities in the form of working weekends, holiday celebrations, weekly saunas, summer cafeteria and restaurant days etc.

We cultivate numerous plants: vegetables (potatoes, carrots, parsnip, onions, beetroot, cabbages etc.), berries, apples, flowers, herbs and cereals. We have 10 Eastern Finland's cows and about 20 chicken, which provide us animal products for our own use. We have a international working atmosphere with local students ,farmworkers and volunteers and is also common to gather to something nice after the working days such as taking a swim or a beach volley match.

Our expectation for a workaway volunteer is to be helping around general tasks in the farm. The volunteering days will start at nine in the morning, the lunch is at half past noon and the day ends at after noon depending on the daily tasks. We eat mainly our own products, which taste good like no other. Previous experience on farm working is not important as we teach everything. You don't need to bring own working clothes as we have plenty of work clothing. We expect fluent English speaking, hands on approach to volunteering and certain level of interdependency (taking care of your own dishes, laundry and free-time activities). Volunteers who have personal interest in food matters are prioritized. Minimum age of volunteers is 20 years.

You will get to experience Finland in a unique way. The traditional farm lifestyle (farm animals & sauna, etc) combined with international working atmosphere in a very beautiful environment, just a 20 min bus ride from the tourist friendly capital Helsinki. You get to enjoy the peacefulness of Finnish nature surrounding the farm. There is the Baltic Sea just few minute walk away with beautiful cliffs and fishing possibilities with our rowing boat. The biodiversity in the area is very high, there is some much butterflies and birds and also bigger wildlife such as deers, moose, rabbits and such.. In the summer time the forests are full of berries and in the autumn there is plenty of edible mushrooms.
