Region: Poland, Lower SilesiaOur place is an ex-railway station that was inhabited some 20 years ago by a group of artists. It became a home of a theater and a cultural centre. It is situated near to the Sudety mountains and Czech border at the border of two villages: Wolimierz and Pobiedna. Every year, in the middle of summer we organise a festival gathering people in peaceful and friendly ambience surrounded with beautiful music, art and nature. We invite volunteers to come, stay and help with our everyday routine. Sometimes there is 50 people here, sometimes 2... There is no rule and you should not expect- you should be open :) Usually the summer is vibrant and collorfull time of visits and work around and in auntumn and winter we focus more on working inside. Making a fire to not get cold, making "winter cleaning" and some art works inside! So... If you decide to come now, you can expect stillness :) But we can also think about organizing some partys, activities for local people, etc. Beside the work, you might enjoy beautiful mountains, hills, meadows, fields and forests, hiking and biking and visiting places of interests in the neighbourhood... We invite everyone no matter gender, nationality, occupation or age. The most important is good energy that you bring and positive attitude. We hope to become friends :)
Region: New MexicoWe are a couple living on 5 acres that we are developing into an organic garden with orchard and fruiting shrubs. No children, but we have two dogs, a couple barn cats, and a flock of chickens - perhaps one day we'll get some goats! I am American and my husband is originally from West Africa. We eat just about anything, and some of our meat is locally raised and butchered. We are not vegetarians but will have plenty of vegetables fresh from the garden, and can accommodate people who don't eat meat. There are always fresh eggs from our hens as well. We don't smoke but do enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage. No smoking is allowed in the house, but out of doors is okay. The dogs live inside but are quite friendly and love company.
Region: British ColumbiaWe are a ranch (some say a funny farm) in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, Canada. We have 200 acres on a lake and are surrounded on all sides by government owned forests open for recreation. We are 1hr flight or 6hrs drive north of Vancouver. We raise all natural, free-ranged, cows, pigs and goats. We also have chickens, ducks, horses and livestock dogs. We are happily married with 3 fun loving, active boys, 11 yrs and 5 yr old twins. We are travelers ourselves and home school our kids so we are always looking to both provide and accept opportunities for life experience and cultural diversity. Workaways are welcome year round for short or long term stays. We have had wonderful experiences with local and international visitors and would like to expand that part of our lives. Our focus is on providing an opportunity for someone to learn our way of life and for us to learn from you so individuals of all skill types are welcome.
Region: MarcheWe are husband and wife, young couple, looking for someone who can teach us SINGING: modern, jazz, or opera. In exchange we offer conversation in Italian and a pleasant stay in Italy. We consider people from Italy and from other countries, as we speak - besides Italian - English, a little German and a little Spanish. Having someone from abroad would also entail more cultural exchange and language practice and we are always looking forward to it. We love music, cinema, theatre, literature, philosophy... anything cultural. We also love nature, especially hiking in the mountains or spending time by the sea.
Region: IdahoWe are a Jewish am ha' aretz family on a small organic (non-certified) farmstead in the foothills of the Rocky mountains in north-central Idaho. We are near the Clearwater River and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. We have a large vegetable garden and raise, goats, pigeons, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and our most special crop, and the reason we live the simple life we do, is our children. Our goal is to raise our family in a healthy, country, close to the earth kind of way. Animals, gardening, baking, making cheese, herbal remedies, natural food preservation....This takes so much time and effort, but it is so much fun. Having volunteers is wonderful for us. We love getting to know other cultures, sharing stories, experiment with new ideas and having the help has been an amazing blessing. As of right now we are putting the garden to bed for fall. Planting the garlic soon and mulching one more time. The greens in the hoop house are producing well. We are learning how to bake in our cobb bread oven we made this summer. I never want to buy pizza again. It tastes so much better out of our bread oven! We are enjoying our time in our sauna now that the weather is cooling down. It is complete on the inside but needing a few finishing touches on the outside. :) We are babysitting a milk cow for a friend and enjoying her yummy rich milk. This week we are trying our hand at making miso. The koji smells wonderful and we are on schedule to make the miso this Friday! We have butchered our meat chickens and half of our turkeys. It is so wonderful to have the opportunity to teach the children about the art of butchery and merciful methods. What a gift. Our 13 and 11 year olds have become very proficient at the process and can do it on their own. 18 more to go. Thanksgiving will have a lot of meaning this year. :) We love to share our little town with those that visit. The Clearwater river is just a few minutes away. With fishing, swimming and boating. Also nearby is the Nez Perce Tribal Reservation, so exploring there can be fun as well. There is tons of wildlife to experience, deer, turkeys, elk, the occasional moose, black bears, cougars wolves, and plenty of other smaller creatures to enjoy. Stays of at least 1 or 2 weeks are suggested. If things work out well we are open to extended stays. We love community. We expect Workawayers to put in 5 to 6 hours of work a day and since we are Jewish each Sabbath (Saturday) is a day off. We try to leave plenty of time for fun. Transportation from Lewiston ID and Missoula MT areas may be possible. Languages spoken here are English, some Spanish, and a smattering of Hebrew. We are very family friendly and children are more than welcome, as we have a bunch of our own. We are able to accommodate vegetarian and gluten free diets.
