Description
Hi :)
We are Anita, 36 (and two kids 13 and 11) and Sigmund, 41, and we have a little sheepfarm in Kaldbak with about 150 sheep, some geese, dog and cat :)
On a daily basis the kids go to school and we have some general maintenance with fixing fences and other things that need to be fixed here and there.
Anita and the kids live in a small apartment with the kids and bengal cat :D
Sigmund lives on the farm in a campervan, right next to the farm and most of his family :)
Depending on the time of year, we have different things to do around the farm.
From February-May we feed the sheep every morning and we have some sheep inside that need taking care of. Feed twice a day and some cuddles are always welcome :)
In April-May all the lambs are born, so we go every day to feed them and check on them to see if they are okay and help them if needed.
In may the sheeps go to the mountains and grow big and strong :)
In July we take them home for a nice haircut and give them medicine :)
In August we make alot of hay for the winter to come and also work on different things that need to be done around the farm.
In October we take all the sheep home, check on them and there we have alot to do for a week or two :) October is the time we slaughter sheep for their meat. This is a busy time and we like having workawayers then. It is a an advantage for those who stay with us during this time to have previous experience with that kind of work, or at least not mind the sight of blood. We like getting help with the slaughter, but there are usually other tasks to do instead if the slaughter is a little too much.
And the cycle continues!
Dont worry - the months that are not mentioned are full of fun too :)
Since there are alot of vegetarians and vegans around the world, we feel the need to let people know that it is not possible for us to host vegetarians or vegans. Its not that we mind it at all, but it is not easy to be a vegan in our family, since we eat alot of meat every day and need to be self-reliant to a big degree. As such, we are unfortunately unable to offer any separate diet on our quite limited budget.Types of help and learning opportunities

I've spent nearly two months in Kaldbak with Sigmund. Most of the job consisted of repairing fences, cleaning up the barn/the meat dryer, collecting sheeps, and more generally helping Sigmund around the farm… read more
I was there April-May which is a busy time of year as it is lambing time. The work is physically demanding with lots of walking around the mountain to feed and check on the sheep and repairing fences.
