    Description

    We are Dermot and Linda.

We live in a little village called Crookhaven, in the most south westerly point in Ireland, near Mizen Head Co. Cork. We are a blended family of 5, with three daughters, Katie 25, Alex 22, and Angela 6.

We live in a pub in the heart of the village with our own pier, garden staff accommodation, and apartments. We have our own kayaks, bicycles and most of the year go fishing in Der's father’s fishing boat, often going over to the neighbouring villages and islands. We have 3 dogs, all a variety. In addition to running 2 bars, a restaurant and a little shop in the village we have some livestock that I help my dad Billy with.

We can cook well, and the house is very sociable with friends dropping in and meals shared. You will be made feel very welcome. We can’t understate how beautiful the environs are, it’s very special. Der's mother came from England on holidays is the 60’s met his father and stayed!

The reason we would like to host workaways is we have plenty of time and space to host workaways. The accommodation is dorm rooms over the bar. Der has worked in France and speaks fluent French, Linda speaks very basic Spanish, over the years friends and family friends from The Basque Country, America England Germany have experienced this very special place making friends for life.

The type of help we need is help in our house, cleaning, painting, gardening and possibly cooking and a little childcare for Angela, our youngest.

An interesting spot for history, in Crookhaven Marconi sent his first trans-Atlantic radio signal from Brow Head, and the latest Star Wars film was shot there also. Our chef is an expert on the local pre-historic sites, giving you insight on our wedge tombs and stone circles in the locality.

If workaways are interested they can get cookery lessons in desserts from the chef in the bar, and get involved in cinema night, on Monday night where locals choose to showcase movies, either foreign or mainstream movies.

I have a keen interest in bird and nature watching as have my local friends and there are every day opportunities for bird and mammal watching in the locality. We hope to offer a very warm insight in our way of life and become life-long friends
