    Description

Hi, my name is Ida. I was a teacher at a formal school until 6 years ago. I resigned to help my husband organize his institution, an English learning centre (non profit organization). My husband built it 16 years ago. The institution concerns community based education. We are located in Sidoarjo, a small city in East Java.

Our English Learning Centre has 3 general focuses: our English improvement program, Chinese improvement program, computer networking, and improving day-school subjects. While the students are learning these skills, I enclose some moral values, cooperation, conservation awareness, charity, social projects and many more. The centre provides some extracurricular programs and community involvement such as: photography, theater, journalism, literature, nature club, traditional dance club, art and many more. It is a non-profitable oriented institution. We host many poor and the orphans students without payments. Our goal is to build a balanced education system for the poor and the rich. We are in need of more volunteers to make our institution grow better and bigger. Our village can continue to be empowered by the many resources the institution provides it. I want this institution to benefit not only around my village, in Sidoarjo area, but throughout Indonesia.

Everyone who would like to support our vision are welcomed. I believe good education is the precious asset we need to reach our dreams, and to make Indonesia a better nation. I want to dedicate my whole life to education.

I have various students here. Starting from kindergarten until university students, employees or professionals. We distinguish them in some classes or levels. As our classrooms our centre has eco-gazebos and we use some of the local people's front space as classes. My students are charming, helpful and kind. I love them very much.

Lots to do here. A couple times a week we will visit schools to motivate students to continue learning English. From Monday to Friday we have our regular evening classes that run 16:30-21:30. You will be tasked with practicing Speaking English with the students in form of topic discussions, debates, or creative learning.

Other forms of help at our centre include: holding some charities program (fund raising), donating to my public library, gardening, cooking traditional food, planting some trees in my village, shopping in the traditional market, recycling some rubbish, presenting a seminar to the community about a topic of your interest, participating on the citizens program around my village and many more. If you have other skills to teach, we welcome you to share.

Our institution is close to Surabaya. Taking 30 minutes from Juanda International Airport, 30 minutes from Purabaya Bus Station, 10 minutes from Sidoarjo Railway Station. On the weekend, the volunteers used to spend their time to visit some historical or recreational sites around Surabaya or Sidoarjo, such as Batik Production House, Hero Monument, Kenjeran Beach, Mpu Tantular Museum, Art shop, House of Sampoerna (Cigarette Museum), Mangroove Conservation, Leather bag Center, Pari Temple, Hot mud Lapindo and many more. You can also visit another ones which are in distant location around East Java like Bromo or Semeru Mountain, Safari Park, Songa Rafting, etc. We used to go everywhere by bike, motorbike and public transportation.
