Help with eco-education for children, Istria, Croatia
Country: Croatia
Last Activity: 31/01/2012
Description
We are a husband and wife team that have created and lived on our eco-farm since 2003. Our main objective is to provide eco-education for children, youth and adults in methods of living in harmony with nature. We hold numerous workshops at the centre for visitors interested in learning more about permaculture, connecting with nature and themselves. In the summertime our workshops are spiced up with musical performances by everyone! We also host other organizations who enjoy using our centre for their own workshops. Our vision for the future is to create an eco-village where everyone has their own private house and space while also sharing the space with others, creating a warm community atmosphere.
Energy is provided by solar and wind power; toilets are outdoor, compost toilets.

Work
We work 4 hours a day on average when not holding workshops (which you are more than welcome to join!). In the garden we need help with basic maintenance of flower beds and vegetable gardens; in the forest there are small trees that need to cleared away so the bigger trees can grow. In season, you can help cultivate our lavender farm and plant new trees. We are in the middle of creating a butterfly garden, and constructing a larger rain-water catchment pond which will require digging and laying of foundation. We have two eco-buildings on site: straw bale, wood, stone and glass bottle construction, that we are renovating.
There are chickens, sheep, ducks, geese, dogs, and cats that need to be cared for. When it's break time, enjoy a walk through the forest or to the nearby waterfront!

We volunteered for Igor and Lily a few weeks ago, we had a fantastic time. We camped in a beautiful woodland with many other volunteers, we all cooked together in the communal kitchen. Igor and Lily were both very welcoming.
Igor and Lily were away for a week whilst we were there so we were given the responsibility of looking after all the more

I am very happy that a place like this exists. It is a beautiful place filled with such positive energy. It is a very peaceful, beautiful place and I met some amazing people during my time here. I enjoyed working in the gardens, making meals from fresh vegetables, contributing with building the straw bale house. Igor, thank you for doing what you more
This is such an inspiring place. I will remember Igor and all the friendly people I met there for the rest of my life. A great insight into sustainable living and permaculture. Staying here makes you appreciate the simple things in life. Charlie and I loved helping out in the garden and constructing the volunteer house and drainage systems last more
