Traditional Gascon Farmhouse in Tillac, South West France
Description
Madeleine and I, with our 8-year old Black Labrador Ulla, live in South West France at the edge of a small medieval village called Tillac. We have 1.3 hectares (about 4 acres) of gardens, including a gite building (holiday homes) with swimming pool in 2,500 m2 of their own gardens.
we are increasingly suffering from osteoarthritis and are now limited in the amount and type of work that we can do. Can you help ? If you can, you get to live in a beautifully appointed, very well equipped holiday home (gite) off season ! We are an English-speaking household so if you want to brush up your French, we can recommend other Hosts in the area.
We are trying to put together a small team of Workaways to complete a loft-convertion project, renovate and decorate one of our main rooms in our house and redecorate/smarten up our gites. So people with skills in building (including plastering or plaster-boarding) and decorating would be very welcome.
We also need help in maintaining our very large garden over the Winter and preparing for Spring.. This involves pruning trees and shrubs, preparing the potager (vegetable garden), weeding, cleaning out the lake and will involve digging and other heavy work. So able-bodied people are needed. Experienced gardeners particularly welcome.
People with their own transport would be particularly well suited as we are out in the country and we can not always promise to take you on exploration trips. There are usually other Workawayers in the immediate vicinity.

Work
We are looking for people with practical skills who are willing to make a notable contribution. In the gardens (which include a lake of 1,000 m2) we are looking for assistance in the maintenance of the lawn, potager (vegetable patch), trees, shrubs and flower beds. This offers an opportunity for some creative garden design.
As mentioned above, we also need assistance in our house and the gites. We have a number of specific projects that you might like to get involved with. These include a loft conversion in our main house (a traditional Gascon farmhouse from about 1840), refreshing the decoration of some of the rooms inside our house and some decorating inside and outside the gite.
There are often other volunteers in the vicinity, but there is no night life ā as known in cities. We make our own if we wish to; otherwise we have a quiet and calm lifestyle ā no hustle and bustle.

Accommodation
In return for assistance, we can offer accommodation in a quality gite (holiday home) in a charming medieval village, Tillac.
What else ...
Tillac, where we live, is a small but beautiful medieval village set in gentle rolling countryside. It has a general store, the best butcher in the area and a bar/restaurant. It is at the mid-point of a triangle formed by three other somewhat larger villages, Mirande, Marciac and Mielan. The Pyrenees are 1.5 hrs. away, Biarritz and the Atlantic coast 2 hrs., Toulouse 1.5 hrs. and the Mediterranean coast about 3.5 hours away. This is "La France Profonde".

Tony and Madeleine are a wonderfully sweet couple. They made my boyfriend and I feel very welcome. They were happy to show us around the charming country side, and Madeleine cooks wonderful meals. We hope to return to work with them again some day.
Tony & Madeleine were excellent hosts! We had a wonderful time working in the gite & the garden and getting to know them (and Ulla!). They were incredibly kind to us and made our 1st workaway experience delightful. They're great about showing off all of the delights of Gascony and yes, Madeleine is a wonderful cook. Can't wait to visit them more
We spent 3 fabulous weeks in Tillac with the very hospitable Tony and Madeleine. We had the opportunity to experience life in a small village while living in excellent accomodation with beautiful surrounds. The local workaway community is very active and we met lots of great people. Tony and Madeleine are friendly, flexible and great company - we more
Tony and Madeleine are wonderful hosts and a very charming couple. I had a very nice time working and learning about carpentry and gardening, and I felt really comfortable from day one and I may add Madeleine's excellent cooking.

Tony and Madeleine are a very welcoming couple and I was lucky enough to stay in the beautiful gite with the swimming pool. There are usually other workaways staying at the same time or with other families in the area which is a lot of fun!
However do bear in mind that you will have to provide 2 meals a day for yourself and to check that you have more

Yes, Abi is right, you get to stay in a quality gite with a swimming pool which normally costs hundreds of Euros per day. As regards hour worked, naturally we expect Workaways to work the hours they promised to do. We are pretty easy going compared to some other hosts in the area.
Madeleine and Tony are very friendly and they made me feel welcome at their amazing place. I gained a lot of experience in gardening and painting. I must agree with Abi, working time is 5hrs per day and it can be hard. But it's worth it, because in return you can spend your freetime at the pool and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as often as you more
I had such a great time in Tillac with Madeleine and Tony that I stayed longer than expected and went back again! The work was varied, mainly garden work but also painting and general maintenance. The location is fabulous, great accommodation and wonderful food cooked by Madeleine. There's also a great 'workaway' community around the area which more
Thanks Martin,
You are one of the best Workawayers that we have ever had. It was a delight to host you and to become friends. As well as the gardening, the work that you did on painting the front of the house was superb (and overcoming your fear of heights into the bargain). We are looking forward to seeing you again later in the year.

We stayed with M. and T. for 2 weeks, doing general maintenance and weeding. T. and M. have turned out to be considerate hosts, friendly and ready to help. The accomodation was the most luxurious we had so far as workawayers: bedrooms with en suite bathroom, pool, WiFi, DVD player... and also allowed some privacy for us. M. and T. provide one big, more
K and K were very hard workers and did sterling service in helping to keep our large, unruly garden in good shape. We can recommend them thoroughly. Charly, the dog, is sweet, excellently trained and got on very well with our much older and larger Labrador. He will be no trouble at all.
We spent a month in Tillac working with Madeleine and Tony and it was absolutely fantastic. It was our first Workaway experience and we couldn't have asked for a better one. Whilst not being too demanding, the work was very rewarding and you can really see the difference you're making.

I stayed for one month with Tony, Madeleine and Ulla and I had a great time there. They included us (three other workawayer and me) into their live and went with us to concerts, neighbors, cinema, markets and some other things which I apreciated a lot! During my stay I was working in the garden a lot but also in the house for painting, cleaning more
