Área: Rhône-AlpesWe have limited space available in November This is a lovely chalet in the French Alps set in an idyllic mountain village 6 minutes from the telecabine in St Martin de Belleville that gives access the the vast Les Trois Valleys ski domain. The snow arrives in November, but until then we have lush alpine pastures, sunshine and lots of mountain sports to enjoy! We are set up as a ski chalet, and have great guest accommodation which includes WiFi, satellite TV, games and a DVD library. We are upgrading the accommodation and constructing an apartment at ground level and working on the main chalet to build some additional bedrooms and bathrooms. The venture in France started four years ago born from a love of skiing, the great outdoors and the mountain life. Last October I was able to pack in work to focus on getting the work done on the property there. My wife is planning to join me full time from the UK in October. I have three great grown up kids, my eldest is working an extended ski season in Canada, the other two are travelling and studying. I am 52, I had a good career and am now building a small business in France around tourism - holiday lets with support. It is a down size to do more of what we enjoy in a great place. I love adventure sports, climbing, mountain biking, skiing, swimming, wild places and enjoy travel. While I am happy in my own company I also enjoy meeting people from different countries and backgrounds so workaway looks really helpful. I like cooking healthy food, eating with friends, good coffee! I enjoy building but particularly enjoy joinery work. My wife Janet joins us at the end of October too. I also work really hard, I kind of have to as I have a deadline to get the work done before the snow arrives, normally in November. I mention that as you may need to be self sufficient in the afternoons as most days I will have to carry on working, but I'll help and be as good a host as I can. There will be a nice International group here so you won't be lonely!
Área: Quarteira, AlgarveWant to learn Portuguese or practice your Portuguese? Then we have a wonderful solution for you, in the sunshine of Portugal. Hello and Bom Dia!, We are Anthea and Gerard, who have volunteered around the world and know the true value of a cultural exchange. We would like to open up our home to you in exchange for a few hours of work per day. Learning another language can be a hard and expensive process, but learning a language while living within the community makes it a lot easier and fun to learn. We are a fun-loving couple, who love to exercise and keep fit, mainly using our bikes and kayak. We are non-smokers and social drinkers and we love good food. Anthea is a vegetarian and knows how to cook a mean veggie lasagna, while Gerard loves to whip up a Boere Braai or Portuguese fish grill. We are committed to making our small business a place where volunteers can have a cultural exchange for the benefit of our local staff and our visitors. Gerard is a Sth African-Portuguese and Anthea is Australian-English, so we’re a bit of a mongrel of traditions and culture, and our permanent staff are native Portuguese. Hence, living and working with us, will give you daily exposure to learn or practice your Portuguese. The benefits of coming to helps us, is that we’re located in a prime historical area of the Algarve. With Moorish ruins, Portuguese Castles, Natural underground Caves, and 250 kms of beach front, there is plenty to explore, do and see whilst here. The Algarve is considered the best model of cross-cultural integration in Portugal, show casing the old against the new, clearly woven into the fabric of the community here. Where we live is called the Golden Triangle for the reason that it’s the most desirable place to visit in the Algarve. We live close to the beaches of Quarteira and Vilamoura its only an easy 5 minute walk away. The sands are golden and the water is clear, making it swimmable 7 months of the year. You will have the rest of the day and night to explore this area and enjoy the beautiful beaches or simply lay on its golden sands. Close by, we have ideal snorkeling areas full of sea-life and underwater wreckages. If you have your scuba license there are plenty of boats that will take you further afield to explore the Mediterranean Sea. One of the best aspects of this volunteer position is that it will truly feel as if you’re on holidays in the sun. Stay Length: A minimum ONE month commitment is required during the summer months Unfortunately we cannot accept shorter stays! What we provide: Free accommodation, 2 meals per day, and lots of time to learn & practice your Portuguese. We have a get-together BBQ for the volunteers once a week and daily lunches with everyone. There is free wifi, tv and free laundry facilities. This project is suitable for volunteers traveling on their own, two individuals traveling together or couples. Unfortunately we cannot accept any volunteers with pets. Couples are welcome to apply! Please contact us for more information and placement availability. We welcome all enquires and hope to hear from you soon! If you have Handy-Man skills, we would also love to hear from you! Many thanks, Muinto obrigado Anthea & Gerard.
Área: AndinaOur permaculture community is a group that practices the internal and external ecology through the fusion of ancient internal wisdom, healthy food, workshops on self-sustainability, yoga, field trips to other farms, meditation and practices of the ideal principals to be more aware of our natural environment in Medellin, Colombia. Come for one month and live in our community, learn through workshops and share with us different languages and believes. Volunteers participate in the general activities of the farm and are expected to work 4 hours a day. Some of the activities consist of: 1. Nursery work, sowing seeds and filling bags. 2. Reforestation work, planting, weeding, mulching, staking and pruning. 3. Creation and maintenance of vegetable gardens. 4. Compost making. 5. Planting and harvesting crops. 6. Help in preparation of food for our vegetarian restaurant. 7. Bio_construction with Bamboo (gaudua) etc. 8. Elements constructed out of clay. Lodging in the farm: Accommodation is provided in one of the sleeping areas sharing with other students. We supply sheets and blankets The food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is fully vegetarian (very tasty). The local diet is heavy on rice, beans, chickpeas, lentils, potatoes, yucca (casaba), plantains, corn, and plenty of vegetables from the garden. What will you get out of volunteering? You’ll learn from our community and will be able to contribute to a valuable environmental model for the rural finca and you’ll have the opportunity to learn about organic farming, vegetarian cuisine, permaculture and reforestation

Área: Occupied Palestine - West BankWe were established in 2002 as a non-governmental organisation situated in a Refugee Camp, Bethlehem in the West Bank. The organisation works independently and is not affiliated with any political party or movement. Since the outbreak of the second Intifada in September 2000 the inhabitants of the camp have been surrounded by an environment of violence, devastation, poverty, hatred and despair. The occupation has negatively affected every Palestinian's life, with children suffering some of the worst effects. They have lost feelings of hope, happiness and peace. Moreover, these children grow up without the privileges of gardens, playgrounds, libraries and youth centres. This results in them having to be confined to their small living spaces as the streets of Deheishe have no space for fun. Palestinians are deprived of basic needs for their families and have lost their taste of life. In these adverse circumstances our centre in the Refugee Camp is considered an oasis which provides a safe haven for women, children and adolescents offering them support and services to excel in many fields. These range from counselling and education to cultural awareness. Since we opened we have received many volunteers from all over the world and from a variety of cultural backgrounds. There are many ways that volunteers can participate, such as by giving English lessons, sharing computer skills, musical or artistic talents, lecturing about democracy, human rights issues or other topics important for the development of our children. Volunteers are also greatly needed for administrative tasks, as well as fundraising. By visiting us here you will have the chance to experience and explore Palestinian culture first hand. You will see for yourself the effects of the occupation and see how life in the West Bank goes on. There is no better way to learn about the conflict in Palestine and we guarantee that your time with us will be much more than your average volunteering experience. We are open to hearing your suggestions for alternative ways that you, as a volunteer, may be interested in working with and educating our children through workshops, etc.
