You will be teaching English in local public schools and centres for orphaned children so that the students can develop their language skills in order to secure a better future and work opportunities. Around 3-5 hours/day, depending on the available classes, 2 days off/week.
In return for your help, we will provide you with free accommodation and 3 meals a day. We are a small non-profit organization and have mainly our expenses covered by donations from generous people. Cooking, cleaning and making trips to the market can be distributed amongst ourselves and we can account for vegetarians and vegans. Team work makes the dream work!

The second option is to stay in Van Hoi village, with my parents, and help with their small garden. So if you have experience with gardening, or permaculture, then you are most welcomed.

We prefer volunteers that can stay for at least 4 weeks, but everybody is welcome.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have a private room (you may have to share the room with other people), with internet access in Yen Bai city. It is in a 2-floor house with 4 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. One room is a sitting room with sofa, table, printer, scanner. Another room is the students' class, and lastly 2 bed rooms with mattresses, blankets and pillows, fans and a wardrobe. There is an electric cooker and a gas stove for us to cook meals. The accommodation is simple but it has everything you need for a comfortable living.

When volunteering at my parents garden, you will be accommodated in a home stay (it is a living room with two beds, you might share the room with other people). Moreover, there is a bathroom and a kitchen. You will experience the traditional vietnamese village life.

ABOUT THE LOCATION, YEN BAI PROVINCE

Yen Bai is in the mountain province, with rugged mountainous scenery and green rice paddy fields in the valleys. The Hoang Lien Son mountain range runs through the province. The Red (or Thao) River and Chay River also flow the province. Their origin is in the Yunnan, China.

This valley created by these two river systems in the Yen Bai Province is fertile, though an uneven territory; Muong Lo plain is the rice bowl of the province. In the plateau between the Red River and Da River there are many mountains. Besides the two main rivers, the Red and the Da, the province has about 200 canals, small streams and large lakes and swamps.

Thac Ba is an artificial lake of Yen Bai Province. The caves and grottos in hill-islands on the lake such as Hum (Tiger) Cave, Cau Cuoi Cave and Thac Ba Temple are attractive to visitors. Going there, you are able to take a relaxing swim in the lake, climb the mountains and explore the beautiful forests.

Why does workaway.info allow listings of hosts who charge money?

In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer's stay.  (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.
