    Description

My wife, Amanda and I have lived all over the US, and had lived abroad for a few years before we bought a fairly run-down piece of property back in 2017 and with the help of dozens of guests and volunteers have since transformed this place into a happier place.

It's just the two of us, our cat, and a small handful of renters who all live together on about 8 acres of property that we affectionately refer to as "The Compound".

Travelers could potentially benefit from us in a multitude of different ways. We've lived abroad and all over the place here in the States. There is a Jiu-Jitsu gym next door, so you would be welcome to come train jiu-jitsu and/or Judo there with us.

  • Help

    Help

The main areas of help we're needing here involve basic ground maintenance and landscaping, cleaning, painting, gardening and... did I mention cleaning (lol)? If you happen to have a specialty skill outside of this area though, please let us know, as we've got various other random jobs to do around the Compound.

We're also patching holes in roofs, building a retaining wall out of old/upcycled tires, and building random stuff all around the Compound. Other things we have going on include several DIY-style construction/restoration projects, like slapping some new paint on ugly parts of the house, building hang-out/chillin' spots around the yard and just generally beautifying the property as much as possible.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

If you don't have a camper of some sort, you would most likely be staying in "the bunkhouse". Imagine a small garage with 3 bunk beds (6 beds total), a couch, a hide-a-bed and a TV in it, and that would be where you'd sleep.

Otherwise, you would have access to everything else we have to offer on our property, including bathroom facilities, solar shower, plenty of people to socialize and hang out with, washer/dryer, internet, jiu-jitsu/judo training, fire pits, grills, kitchen/dining areas, and good times had by all!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your time off, you'd be encouraged to go out and enjoy all Asheville has to offer; from one of the highest concentration of breweries in the world to some of the best nature walks this side of the Mississippi, this place has it all. We live in NW Asheville, very close to the West Asheville art scene and all the other zany stuff that goes on in this town. I could write it all down here but you'd probably find more info on stuff you like if you just google it.

Unfortunately, the closest bus stop is a 30-min. walk from our place, but we can offer to take you from A to B if it's on the way to where we'd be going, and we can guarantee you a ride to and from the Asheville airport if you are flying in/out during your travels. The roads near the house are sketchy at best in regards to riding a bicycle or walking, so please be advised that you should venture out at your own risk!

    Can host digital nomads

Our internet connection is fairly decent most of the time. We've hosted workawayers who have had to conduct online video calls for work, and it's rarely an issue... just sometimes there's an issue :).

  • Space for parking camper vans

    Space for parking camper vans

We are tailor-made for campervans/motorhomes. Well, for the most part at least. It would be important to have a semi-sustainable living apparatus because we don't have septic hook-up for RVs/converted vans. However, we can provide a standard 120v extension cord and a comfortable place to park, as well as a bathroom and hot shower.

    Can possibly accept pets

Your pet should be well-behaved and quiet. Gotta pick up after your fur friends as well. But otherwise, we are a fairly pet-friendly establishment, assuming your pet will get along with random dogs and cats that wander in from neighboring properties.
