Description

At the moment, we are looking for someone with carpentry experience to build a gazebo in our backyard as well as help with our solar project about a 2 hr drive away. Come work & play in one of the best kept secret areas in Canada! We are located a 10 Minuts bike ride from the longest freshwater beach in the world - 18km of powdery white sand called Wasaga Beach! Our house is a short walk from lovely hiking and biking trails. We are located on the edge of town, shopping is about 10 minute bike ride. We often go to Collingwood, a very pretty tourist town nearby, once to twice a week. In the fall, we are surrounded by some of the prettiest fall colours in the world.

In exchange for about 5 hours of work per weekday, we offer accommodation (separate living quarters with bedroom, living room and kitchenette) in our large home and board for single person or couple.
There is also work on our solar project a 2 hr drive away - for that, you would work along with Brian for three whole days at a time, but then come back and relax here. There is no "proper" accommodation at the solar site, Brian will take our campervan along for showering, sleeping will have to be for two nights in a tent.

Depending on your background (though not for this summer) work will consist of teaching our son high school subjects, or, if you have a background in electronics, at university level.

We try to enjoy some of the many events and festivals nearby in the summer and gladly take along our workaway guests.

Please note that we cook in a fairly health-conscious way.

Our household consists of Brian, 51 and Canadian, Doris, 48 and German-Canadian and Daniel, 13. We are located within a 10 minute bike ride of the longest freshwater beach in the world (Wasaga Beach), about 2 hours north of Toronto. Some trips to Toronto possible as my husband works there sometimes. We are an easygoing, well travelled family and have done home exchanges in the past.

The best time to visit our area is May to October, when you can bike to the beach and there is lots to do outdoors. There is skiing in winter, but it is fairly expensive and not comparable to other ski resorts.

Please note that we are unable to accommodate anyone younger than 20.

Travail

At the moment, we most need help with building a garden pergola type structure and would love to host someone with experience in woodwork or building. For shorter stays of 2 weeks, the work would be mostly garden work like weeding, digging, washing windows, floors and trim etc. and general housekeeping/cleaning chores.

Also, we need help with our solar project, which is located about 2 hours from here, on the edge of a small village, a block from the lake, but there is no real accommodation there. You would be going there for three full workdays at a time, then come back here and be able to relax for four.

For later this year, we may also be interested in someone for a longer term to teach our son at high school level.

As we are a home schooling family, we spend a lot of time at home. Working hours can be flexible if you are really not a morning person :-), though we recommend work in the mornings, so that you can be free to come along if we go out in the afternoons. Working days can be flexible to allow going along to Toronto the occasional day my husband travels there.

Logement

You would stay in a separate Nanny suite inside our large home - this consists of bedroom with a queen sized bed, living area with large-screen tv, kitchenette with small fridge and microwave and private bathroom with shower. A separate entrance allows you to come and go as you please.

Autres choses...

We are located in a subdivision that is about 2.5 km from the nearest shopping area, about 3km to beaches. All within easy bike distance. Husband works in Toronto sometimes, so some trips there can be arranged. Google Wasaga Beach and Collingwood - Ontario for further information. Once a week we travel to the closest larger city, Barrie, where there is a mall and other shopping places. We also drive to Collingwood about twice per week, which is a quaint touristy town with lots of small shops and restaurants.

Due to the nature of the accommodation (queen sized bed) this would be suitable for single person or couple only. We will not be able to accommodate anyone younger than 20.

We require that any workawayers visiting us have proper insurance coverage. Health care in Canada is much more expensive than in most other countries, and your home insurance generally only cover a small fraction of the real cost incurred, if at all.
