English family living in Southern Lappland. We have 2 boys, 16 and 10. We bought an old heritage house, built over 100 years ago and renovating it the last 2 years. We use a special paint that has to be used in good dry weather, which we do not get enough of even in the summer. It is a large house, we live upstairss and my wife runs a cafe downstairs. 2013 AT END OF MAY, WE NEED PLUMBERS,PAINTERS,GENERAL MAINTENANCE SKILLS IMPORTANT FOR COMPLETING RENOVATION PROJECT THIS SUMMER. ALSO MY WIFE WOULD LIKE TO DEVELOP GARDEN FOR TOURIST CAFE. PART OF CAFE ATMOSPHERE IS MUSIC, SO ANY MUSICIANS COME AND PLAY FOR US ALL SUMMER.

*I'm sorry but we are unable to take anyone until after mid November.* We have a small lifestyle block/farm 15 minutes away from Motueka, and the Abel Tasman National Park, with a few sheep, a few geese, ducks, turkeys and peacocks. The property is also home to three Labrador dogs, two cats, two anti social llamas, three horses which always need more exercise so experienced horse riders very welcome!! Numerous chickens roam the property and the daily routine includes chicken feeding, egg collecting, egg cleaning and egg sorting by size ready to sell. We also have vegetable and flower gardens to prepare (rotary hoeing, weed matting, planting) for the summer and next winter's wood to split (we will have a log splitter). Help with all of the above would be great and there is always something to be done, either inside the house or out, cleaning and maintenance wise or some project in progress to be completed. Accommodation would be in our guest cottage when available (not so much during summer, Dec-March) or well equipped caravan (has shower and loo). Food/three meals a day are provided in return for 4-5 hours work. Work hours are flexible for those who would like to take time for sightseeing and enjoy the area. Self starters who are able to work unsupervised and have a good sense of humour (who won't mind getting their hands dirty!) preferred. Own transport is a bonus (but not compulsory) as we are 2.5km away from the main road and not on a bus route. Please take a look at our website to get an idea of the property.

Hi we are Michalis and Aida, a couple currently living and working in lively Amsterdam with a first child to be born in December!!! We love animals, nature and arts. We try to eat biological and local (though we do like mangoes and chocolate...) and are currently working a lot with art and recycling. Michalis is a musician and a very good designer and a handy man and I'm an actress and video/theatre producer. Not to forget our 4 furry cats: Rodolfito, Pepi, Grisela and Naranjito. They all were born in the garden and now has taken over the house. So, cat lovers are specially welcome! We are also sign up as volunteers and have recently done our first voluntary experience in Balaguer and that inspired us to become a host ourselves!

We have a 35 Acre farm approximately 10 miles south of Oxford, MS. 3 adults, 2 young children, 50 goats, 1 guinea, 24 chickens, 4 livestock guardian dogs, and 5 cats live on the property. We raise gourmet garlic, vegetables, herbs, meat goats, and chickens. We need folks to help with our goats, dogs, large gardens, harvesting and preserving veggies. Our 2013 kidding is over. We had 30 kids born, 27 are still with us. We have one bottle baby. Our volunteers, Celia and Rosie, did a great job helping during that high stress time. Now we are working on making sure the mammas and kids stay healthy. We will be wethering the bucklings in about three weeks and we will be selling does in a couple of months. We will be putting in our spring gardens soon. The cold weather crops, potatoes, beets, carrots etc. will go in in the next week to 10 days. We have greens and onions that have overwintered pretty well but we will be replanting lettuce. We also need to put in more blueberries etc. Our overall goal is to operate an organic farm with our own meat, vegetable, and egg production. We are focusing on sustainable agriculture. That means we are relying less and less on fossil fuel methods. So our volunteers do need to want to learn to use a scythe, and be willing to haul a lot of organic matter down to the gardens and chicken run. Right now, because we have been in and out of the country for awhile, our gardens are not "perfect". However, since we started having volunteers in Dec. of 2011 our volunteers have done a LOT of work and that has been a huge help in moving us forward. Now we need to continue to build on that great foundation. We are currently finishing the construction of our volunteer living space. Right now there is an air conditioned/heated sleeping/eating space with a half bath. Soon there will be a shower. For now you have to use the shower in one of our two houses. We build much of our own stuff; housing/septic/drainage systems etc. and, if you join us, you will be helping and learning. In return for room and board, we expect an average of 25-30 hours of work a week. We are omnivores NOT vegetarians. That said, we have had vegans staying with us and it worked well. No smoking inside buildings. No illegal drugs. We prefer folks who want to stay for two weeks or more but week long stays have been ok. We want volunteers who, in addition to wanting to learn about growing and preserving want to learn about basic animal husbandry. Depending on the time of year you are here, you can learn how to plant, harvest, preserve produce, take care of animals, and plan and build. Please note, we do not live in the suburbs. If you will be offended by some degree of disorder, please don't volunteer here. We are juggling a lot of balls, getting the farm in order, goats, chickens, planting, harvesting, putting up veggies, homeschooling grandchildren, large dogs who want to go AWOL...... It is endless. Fun but endless. Things are not neat and, to be honest, they are often barely organized. If you can't handle impromptu living, we are not the place for you. If you have a computer, tablet, smart phone etc. wireless internet access is available for e-mail and social networking. Laundry facilities are available. Languages: We are native English speakers with limited Italian, French, Spanish, and German. We are interested in having volunteers who speak another language so that we can learn from them while they practice their English with us. Transportation: Getting here: There is no public transportation to Oxford. There is bus service to Grenada, MS and we can arrange to pick you up in Grenada but you need to consult with us before you purchase a ticket. Please note: We will only make arrangements to pick you up IF you are willing to commit to spending 2 weeks with us. If you decide to leave early, we will take you to Oxford. Once you are here: While we are only 10 miles from Oxford, there is NO regular public transportation between Oxford and Taylor. We can, however, arrange to take folks into town when we go.
