Area: Kitale
I am Judith, married with 4 children ages 21 girl in university, 16 girl in high school/ 13 boy in high school and my last son is 11 yrs in class 6 .I have a graduate degree in Biblical studies and Theology. About the school : Our school education center offers primary school to High School. It is a community-run school providing secondary education, elementary and Primary education to orphans and other children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We have over 150 pupils and students, both girls and boys, aged between 2yrs and 17. We are located in Kitale Municipalities near Kipsongo Slums of Kitale town 2km from the town center. The school is run on Christian principles, and accepts children regardless of their religion, tribe, ethnicity or political background. Some students come from the nearby slums, while others come from the rural areas, with others living at the center Trans Nzoia district is home to thousands of orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children due to high rate of HIV/AIDS prevalence, unending violent tribal clashes, absolute poverty and lack of knowledge about children’s rights. There are many internally displaced and landless families, unaccompanied and neglected children. Solution The children’s home will be a solace to these orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children. The plan is to get abandoned, orphaned and vulnerable children below five years and provide them with shelter, food, education and training until they reach the age of eighteen years. The home targets to support one hundred children at one time. The children will be accommodated in five houses and attend school in the neighborhoods. We offer them a home with 80 orphaned vulnerable children living at our center. We have a school that caters for their educations needs. We help 150 access education with 70 on home based care program. We also have a community outreach program to help vulnerable widows who are living with H.I.V/AIDS. We are training them on entrepreneurship to economically empower them to help provide food for their children.Area: Saskatchewan
Our farm consists of 90 head of cattle - calving is getting close to completed. We have 7 riding horses and 2 ponies (both ponies are needing harness work). The rest of the barnyard population is made up of chickens, ducks, cats, 5 dogs, rabbits, lambs, peacocks and of course our llama Sparky and our two pot belly pigs, Wilbur and Louie. Our farm has been hosting visitors since 2004. We are a family of 4 (daughters ages - 16 and 13yrs) and we encourage our helpers to become a part of our everyday life.Area: Tuscany
We live near Lucca, Tuscany - and have a house with 4 hectares of land. Would be really good to have some help with the pruning of the olive trees, clearing of the land and woods and general work. Also if have basic building skills, to build a couple of garden walls etc that would be great! We are an English couple who live here all year round - and we have an estate agency. Our 13 years old daughter is here with us in the school holidays. The house is 30 mins from Lucca and we have a lovely big swimming pool (120 sqm) in very pretty surroundings. We have a wide circle of friends who we socialize with a lot, love good food (Tuscan and international!) and wine. We have four cats - who live mostly outside - but are very spoilt boys! Do send me an email if you have any queries!Area: Idaho
Farm Description We are a Jewish family on a small organic (non-certified) farmstead in foothills of the Rocky mountains in north-central Idaho. We are near the Clearwater River and Clearwater National Forest. We have a large vegetable garden and raise pigeons, goats, chickens and our most special crop, and the reason we live the simple life we do, is our children. Our goals are to raise our family in a healthy, country, close to the earth kind of way. So in order to do that we are wanting to finish building up raised beds in the Garden, get our new greenhouse finished and assemble and start operations in a second one. We will be setting up an area for dairy cows this spring, working on our water ram system for irrigation from our stream, salvaging a logging building and putting up a barn. Stays of at least 1 week to several months are suggested. If things work out well we are open to extended stays. We love community. We can use help from February through October. We expect Workawayers to put in 5 to 6 hours of work a day and since we are Jewish each Sabbath (Saturday) is a day off. We try to leave plenty of time for fun. Transportation from Lewiston ID and Missoula MT areas may be possible. Languages spoken here are English, some Spanish, and a smattering of Hebrew. We are very family friendly and children are more than welcome, as we have a bunch of our own. We are able to accommodate vegetarian and gluten free diets. Nearby attractions; The Clearwater river and fishing, swimming and boating is only 8 miles away. Hot springs are about an hour and half drive up river. Also nearby is the Clearwater National Forest and the Nez Perce Tribal Reservation, so exploring there can be fun as well. We are new to Workaway but old hats at community.Area: Nova Scotia
We're a small backpackers hostel overlooking the beautiful Bras d'Or Lakes and surrounded by trees, fresh air and wildlife. We're open each year from May until late October and just down the road from the start of the Cabot Trail. If you enjoy being active, we are close by to hiking, kayaking, biking, swimming and beaches. Workawayers are welcome to help with landscaping, housekeeping, renovations and building projects, website optimization, helping travellers, answering phones etc . We host hundreds of international backpackers each season and invite you to be part of this great place! Late afternoon and night is left for BBQ's, reading in the hammocks, campfires, and music. Please contact at least a few days before as we only have room for 1-2 workawayers at a time and we don't want to disappoint. Time of stay is flexible but I prefer a minimum of 3 days. Special consideration is given to those with carpentry, building and electrical skills as we are hoping to build a couple cabins from recycled barn wood and run by solar power. Talk to you soon!
