    Description

We have 121 hectares of land of which 100 hectares is native bush.

We do not have tracks through the Bush but that is in the plans. You can walk up our hill and have a view across the valleys and out to the distant coast.

We are establishing gardens and orchards and have 2 dogs (Beautiful Labrador and Labrador X, ducks, and chickens with the aim of being as self-sufficient as We can.
We also have young cows that we have hand raised from calves. They are really friendly, and help keep the grass down.
We are off the grid so are investigating various ways of generating our own power.

Our budget has not enabled us to invest in solar so we are unable to constantly charge devices. This is an opportunity to live without being attached to your device.

We are located 30 minutes from the East coast beaches, Taipa, Cable Bay, and Coopers Beach.

We enjoy eating vegetables, We try to grow as much as We can. We eat meat two or three times a week. Fish once a week caught by my husband.

We have two girls aged 16 years and 15 years.

You will learn about sustainable living in a fun family environment. This will include learning how to take care of the land. During your time with us you will learn the skills involved in maintaining gardens, orchards and animals free from pesticides and chemicals.

As meals are prepared from raw ingredients, you will have the opportunity to learn to cook. Most of the cooking in the winter is done in a home made wood fired oven, this includes baking bread. In the summer We cook in an oven.

You will have the opportunity to live a low impact kiwi life style. "living off the land". You may have opportunity to learn to fish.

You will experience what is like to live with-out noise or light pollution. Get to study the stars from down under and experience true silence.

You will experience what it is like to live in an isolated environment the nearest neighbour being 10 minutes walk down hill.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are very isolated but there is some beauty in that. Peace, solitude and stunning views.

You will hear kiwis at night and look at the night sky while you lie in our fire bath. The night sky may be revealed to you in all its beauty, with no light pollution.

The intercity coach service drops off and picks up in Taipa (best during school holidays) and Kaitaia, We can pick you up from there.

If driving, you are best to arrive on highway 10 into Taipa and travel to where We live in Peria from there.

Our nearest town is Kaitaia 50 minutes drive from where We live. My husband travels into Kaitaia every day of the working week during the school term so this is a good arrival and departure option.

You can visit the Bush Fairy Dairy which is 20 minutes drive from our property. They sell local crafts, organic food (organic ice cream that is good enough to write home about) and has internet access.

We work six days a week making Saturday or Sunday our day of rest. If you would like an additional day off you have the option of making up the hours on other days.
