Area: west of TurkeyWe live in Fethiye, which is a small town in the west of Turkey. It's a touristic place where lots of foreigners live. My husband (Serdar Arslan) owns an organization company. Both of us are originally from Istanbul. We moved here in 2011 because I was pregnant and we wanted to raise our child in nature and Istanbul with its traffic and crowd wasn't right for our aim. In Istanbul I was working in the headquarters of a bank (Akbank), but here in Fethiye I prefer to take care of my daughter, so I am not working. Fethiye is a beautiful town with lots of historical places. You can google Fethiye and see more about the town.
Area: Oregonhello! we are a family of four, hiding out in the hills of southern oregon while our youngest members make their way through early childhood without the burden of media and its devotees. one friend refers to us as new american revolutionaries while another calls our place redneck neverland. our necks are nowhere nearly as red as we intended since neither of us has managed to give up our secret identities as designer and pilot to be the true modern homesteaders we moved here with intentions of nearly eight years ago, but the projects have certainly mounted in that time, nonetheless. we are currently in the midst of organic gardening and extended infrastructure for more, small orchard, forestry stewardship, roadbuilding, home remodeling, fence building, pond-building, swale scheming, barn raising, cobb playhouse constructing, treehouse building, and various other interests too numerous to mention, with constant interloping crazy-art-installation interludes. our kids are vibrant all-things-enthusiasts who could always use an infusion of foreign language / foreign dance / foreign culture, and anything amazing, intense, interesting and joy-filled. kindness and safely are the only tenants of our family. if those requirements are met, nearly all else goes. we love ebullient intellects and hearty celebration.
Area: Chirpan, Stara ZagoraSorry, we are not able to take volunteers until June 2015. Some exciting projects coming up, details will be posted soon! I have a small house with land near Chirpan, where I'm working towards creating a permaculture smallholding and centre for retreats and courses. The house is solid but needing lots of work; there are loads of outbuildings; the land is in good condition and hasn't been used for years. I'm looking for enthusiastic people with a sense of adventure to help me make this happen. This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting project from the beginning. Experience is always good but not essential. Over the winter, most of one of the outbuildings attached to the house has fallen down, so I am especially looking for people with strong building experience, even better if it's with stone and timber. Other than that, tasks will be to finish building a compost toilet, solar shower and field kitchen, as well as clearing a small amount of land to get some food growing. Then renovating the house and outbuildings and working on the rest of the land. All materials used will be natural, sustainable and local as far as possible, or locally reclaimed. I am a permaculture designer working towards my diploma, and have experience of growing food on an allotment in the UK. I am working on a permaculture design for the project. I have renovated an old cottage in the UK using mostly reclaimed materials and have some practical experience and more knowledge. Compost toilet now set up, have also been clearing land for grapevine and goji berry cuttings to be transplanted, and started clearing away the barn that fell down last winter. Next I'll be building the compost heap, setting up the summer kitchen, and clearing more land to get seeds sown. Come and join me!!
