Description

We are a group of 3 adults (Sam, 27 male and two 50 year olds) musicians by trade whom own a 100 acre hobby farm on the south coast of NSW. We're somewhat alternative in our farming methods and adhere to a lot of permacultural practices. We're not farming in "producing goods for sale" sense but we keep a few animals and grow an abundance of fruit trees, olive trees and garlic. Hence, there's always something that needs to be done.

Our place is quite incredible as far as scenery is concerned as we've some fantastic views of the surrounding wilderness areas. We're close to some really good beaches and national parks and there's also an array of wildlife that resides on our land.

Travail

For the most part, work on the farm falls into the general maintenance category. We're aiming to undertake further mud brick building developments later in 2012 but presently we need help with general farm work. There's a large scope of work activities here to suit just about anyone. Tasks can range from being heavy duty (i.e. chainsawing, constructing fences) to less intensive (weeding and planting lettuces). We also have a few pet animals that require attention from time to time (small horses, chickens, dogs).

Logement

Accommodation is plentiful. Volunteers have the option to choose between the guestroom in the main house, a large aluminum shed fitted with a functioning kitchen, bathroom, lounge and bedroom (it was the former family home but is in need of some restoration). We have a large Tipi that's very much capable of being used for sleeping in and there's plenty of room for camping if tents are preferred.

Autres choses...

We're all experienced travellers/backpackers. We've previously been involved with Wwoofing as both hosts and volunteers so we're well versed in how a productive volunteering system works. We're down to earth people and like to think that if you're to contact us you'd be reasonably level-headed also.

As far as work's concerned, a lot depends on the tasks at hand. 4 to 7 hours work per day would be the normal rate depending on what's to be done. At least 2 days off a week to explore the surrounding areas and food will be well provided. We can't promise 5 star meals but you'll get more than a few packets of noodles and some rice. We've found that 2 weeks has been a good length stay for people in the past. One week is generally the minimum amount of time we prefer people to stay for and two weeks the max. However, depending on circumstances this can easily increase.

We all work and lead reasonably busy lives but it is an aim of ours to help show people around the area. The Sapphire Coast is a beautiful part of Australia and is often overlooked in most rough guides and lonely planets. That being said, it is quite remote. Our place is quite a challenge to venture to and the area is difficult to get around without a vehicle (i.e. it's a huge benefit if you have your own transport). That being said, don't be deterred if you are without a vehicle as we're capable of helping out with trasport and travel suggestions.

We welcome people of all ages and walks of life. We do have a limited internet connection but no Wifi.
