Area: La LibertadCoffee shop, Natural Drinks and Bar at the beach. We are a group of 3 partners running this project in the village of Huanchaco, in northern Peru. This little beach town has a very relaxed and quiet life. Our place is a beautiful big house with an amazing beach view. We have been re-constructing and fixing the last details for an opening that is just around the corner. The best season for a visit of the town is coming, Peruvian summer (january to march) is the high season with more tourists and fun activities on the beach like world surf championship in February. The area for the customers will be on the first floor. On the second and third floor we are offering shared rooms of two for the volunteers. If you are interested in surfing or just love the beach you will love the view that’s just on the surf point to check the best waves or just enjoy one of the world’s best sunsets. Depending on the hours of work, we can offer free surf lessons too. Spanish lessons are included and since you will be engaged with the customers you will have a daily practice of the language. Our concept: sell 'natural Peruvian herbal drinks' (with healthy properties) all the mornings and noons. The coffee is another option for the complete chill atmosphere that we are aiming for. At nights we will mix the herbal drinks with pisco (the traditional drink of Southern Peru) or Rum (from the Northern parts of Peru). We serve simple but popular dishes with typical Peruvian ingredients with a twist of an international fusion. Our goal is to be different and offer our customers a chilled atmosphere where they can hang out during the day or night with fun activities. Since we have a great stage we will be able to host some great concerts with local and foreign musicians. As a volunteer of the coffee house you will: * Work 7 hours 6 days a week with a change of shifts (morning or evening). * Waiter tables, greet guests, give the best service. * Prepare the kitchen for the next day (cut, chop and boil) * Prepare dishes upon order (since our concept is simple snack food, it will be easy to put together the dishes) * Wash dishes.
Area: Huay Makay Soam (Tomato Village), Mae Hong Son ProvinceOur School opened in 2004 after working to build and fund a classroom in Huay Makay Soam, Mae Hong Son province, Thailand. The School provides local children with free English classes every weekday evening. The village is quite remote. The nearest big town, Mae Hong Son town, is 41 km away. English lessons are available in Mae Hong Son town, approx 200 Baht for 2 hours. The School, however, is free to all students, making English classes accessible to all in the village. This is essential as many families can not afford to pay for English classes. Why teach English? English is now an international language and the second language for many people throughout the world. Visitors to Thailand will often speak basic English and hope to communicate using English. Tourism in Thailand offers employments to many people in Thailand. For those students living in the Mae Hong Son District, tourism is also one possible area for future employment. Working as a trekking guide, tour guide, in a bar or restaurant, running a guest house – all require some level of English to allow you to interact with customers. There are many NGOs working in the region too, most of whom are English speaking. Jobs in the city, such as office work, will require some level of English. In order for the children of the Village to gain employment, English would be of huge advantage to them. Recent reports in the Thai press (Bangkok Post July 2010) indicate that the Thai government is even looking at making English the official second language. • Unique peace of Forest! Only “Ben and Ten Trekking” go there! • We are both Hilltribe people with lifelong experience living in the Forest. We have a Tourist Guide License and speak good English. We also speak many different Hilltribe Languages. • We will learn you about surviving in the forest: how to use bamboo, how to build a camp, what plants and trees to use. • We give you a Ben and Ten Certificate after the trekking. • We can change the program to your specific wishes. This forest offers many possibilities to fit you perfectly! • We live in TomatoVillage (Huay Makay Soam), 5 different Tribes live here. A perfect place to learn about our cultures! • We run a small local school to teach English to the children. You can visit the lessons if you stay overnight with us (Home stay).
