We're ideally seeking some long term volunteers who can remain with us until at least the end of August and have a mapping role available for a permaculture student (ideal for a Diploma student looking to extend their portfolio with an individual or collaborative design project). ** **
We´re looking for help with a fairly new permaculture project, started a couple of years ago. Having managed a smallholding in central Portugal for several years, we've recently bought a larger quinta which is in need of much love and attention. The land comprises agricultural and forestry land, all of which we intend to make productive over the coming months and years.
We currently have cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, pigeons, rabbits and goats on the farm, all of whom need daily attention. Long term volunteers will have the opportunity to learn goat milking and simple cheese making when we have sufficient milk.
We´re located in a beautiful peaceful location, but are within walking distance of the village. We're lucky to have a good range of local facilities close by, including wi-fi internet, and are easy to reach via public transport.

Current projects include renovating the house, installing renewable energy, installing irrigation systems, starting and maintaining vegetable gardens, planting native trees, building animal shelters, clearing forest, and, well, just about everything else!! There's no shortage of different things to do, and lots of variety. Both skilled and unskilled help welcomed, experience isn´t required. We ask that guests stay for a minimum of two weeks, and longer stays are very welcome.

We have camping and caravan accommodation. It''s important to realise that our facilities are basic and this is not the place to visit if you're looking for luxury.
We´re happy to accommodate children and well behaved dogs with prior discussion, and we´re pleased to work with larger groups (eg Scouts, youth groups).

We usually host a number of volunteers at any one time, so this can be a great place to socialise as well as chill out. We speak English at home, but there´s plenty of opportunity to practice your Portuguese if you would like.

Andrea and Jeroen are two lovely hospitible hosts. They own a most idyllic plot in beautiful Portugal, if you like rural, and small villiages then stop here. The farm has a small homely feel, good food, lush walks and a relaxed atmosphere.
Holly and Nei stayed with us for just under a fortnight, and we can't recommend them to other workaway hosts highly enough. They worked really hard at all sort of different tasks whilst they were with us, but more importantly, were excellent guests. Andrea and Jeroen were great people to work with. They always took the time to answer any questions we had and always explained the reasons for the jobs we were doing which gave purpose and meaning to the work. Keith and Jodie were a lovely couple who really got into whatever they were doing. It was fabulous to have people here who were really putting their all into every moment and wanting to learn something to take away. They were good company and fun to have about, and we wish them every success with their plans once they reach home.
Jennifer and Brandon have been with us here for about 2.5 months now, and we're just sad that their schedule doesn't allow them to stay longer. They've been here through the worst of our winter weather, getting involved in a whole range of different activities, all with a smile.

Nathan has been with us for three weeks and we'll be very sorry to see him leave us. He's been involved in several projects whilst here, and has proven himself to be capable, cheerful and sensible whatever is on the agenda. its really a beautifull place, a very unic experience is offered to those who are willing to give them self into a very basic form of living,which is truly a gift for live!

Kati, Bent and their lovely little one stayed with us for some weeks this summer and were a wonderful family to meet. They showed a real interest in our projects and we'd love to see them again someday.
Charlotte was able to stay with us only a very short period of time as her plans changed at the last moment, but we enjoyed the all too brief time that we spent with her and would welcome her back.
Lucas stayed with us for a couple of weeks in June, and was a pleasure to host. He assisted us in the garden, in the forest and with some building work, and also helped us out with some photography for which we're really grateful. Andrea, Jeroen, Dany and Rowan are a fantastic family ! As soon as we arrived we feel at ease thanks to their warm welcome. It was our first volunteering and it was such a pleasure to work here,in a friendly atmosphere with beautifull landscape all around us. Helene was a wonderful volunteer. She was great at all the tasks that we set her, she worked hard and carefully. But more importantly, she was a pleasure to have around and a marvellous guest. We hope to welcome her back some day :-)
Amanda came to as a last minute Workawayer. She was a real hard worker who was happy to have a go at everything, even tackling cleaning the goat shed :) She helped with the animals (tried her hand at milking and cheesemaking) and got stuck into all sorts of gardening work. Jackie has been an absolute star and we´ve loved having her join us. She has fitted in with the routine and the family superbly, been easy to accommodate and a tremendous help with the various projects we´ve been working on.

Al was a really superb help. He was self sufficient and self motivated in that he worked contentedly alone where need be, solving problems as they came along. He did all sorts of different tasks for us, and is now an expert goat milker :-) Al fitted in as part of a large team too, proving as popular with the kids as with the adults! We wish he´d more
