Help with other Volunteers at a beautiful Quinta, central Portugal
Description
** Currently fully booked until early April, though still welcoming those who have their own live in vehicle **
We´re looking for help with a fairly new permaculture project, started a couple of years ago. Having managed a smallholding in central Portugal for several years, we've recently bought a larger quinta which is in need of much love and attention. The land comprises agricultural and forestry land, all of which we intend to make productive over the coming months and years.
We currently have cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, pigeons, rabbits and goats on the farm, all of whom need daily attention. Long term volunteers will have the opportunity to learn goat milking and simple cheese making when we have sufficient milk.
We´re located in a beautiful peaceful location, but are within walking distance of the village. We're lucky to have a good range of local facilities close by, including wi-fi internet, and are easy to reach via public transport.
Please, ask for our website. Lots of additional information there for potential volunteers including details of this summer's Permaculture Design Courses.

Current projects include renovating the house, installing renewable energy, installing irrigation systems, starting and maintaining vegetable gardens, planting native trees, building animal shelters, clearing forest, and, well, just about everything else!! There's no shortage of different things to do, and lots of variety. Both skilled and unskilled help welcomed, experience isn´t required. We ask that guests stay for a minimum of two weeks, and longer stays are very welcome.
Languages spoken
English, Portuguese, Dutch, German
Accommodation
We have camping and caravan accommodation. It''s important to realise that our facilities are basic and this is not the place to visit if you're looking for luxury.
We´re happy to accommodate children and well behaved dogs with prior discussion, and we´re pleased to work with larger groups (eg Scouts, youth groups).
What else ...
We usually host a number of volunteers at any one time, so this can be a great place to socialise as well as chill out. We speak English at home, but there´s plenty of opportunity to practice your Portuguese if you would like.

Amy was our first volunteer via Workaway and we thoroughly enjoyed her visit.
Amy was friendly and relaxed, and integrated into our large group of volunteers and family life easily. She was willing to have a go at all the different things we had going on, even the washing up and seemingly endless veg prep! It was great to have Amy around and the more

Al was a really superb help. He was self sufficient and self motivated in that he worked contentedly alone where need be, solving problems as they came along. He did all sorts of different tasks for us, and is now an expert goat milker :-) Al fitted in as part of a large team too, proving as popular with the kids as with the adults! We wish he´d more
Andrea & Jeroen were brilliant hosts. Their project was my first volunteering experience they took the time and patience to answer all my rookie questions. The tasks were varied and plentiful so that I could always keep busy as well as find new skills to learn. My highlight of the stay was the goat milking - initially apprehensive at first, my more
Cait was always cheerful and fun to have around and we enjoyed her stay. She welcomed every task with equal enthusiasm and worked really well with our other volunteers. We´d love to see her again some day. Thanks Cait!
Tim was an absolute star, in fact the perfect guest, and we´re really looking forward to seeing him again next year.
Jackie has been an absolute star and we´ve loved having her join us. She has fitted in with the routine and the family superbly, been easy to accommodate and a tremendous help with the various projects we´ve been working on.
I think a highlight must be Jackie´s capability with our animals. From never having milked a goat she progressed to more

I had a really fantastic time here. Andrea and Jeroen were very welcoming and provided a laid-back atmosphere, delicious veggie meals, and copious amounts of home-made cheese and wine :)
The tasks were varied, and there was always a choice of things to do - my highlight was learning how to milk the goats, but I very much enjoyed all the jobs more

Amanda came to as a last minute Workawayer. She was a real hard worker who was happy to have a go at everything, even tackling cleaning the goat shed :) She helped with the animals (tried her hand at milking and cheesemaking) and got stuck into all sorts of gardening work. Amanda was also great to have about and easy to please. She was good more
andrea and jeroen are amazing people and very welcoming. it was a new experience for me living almost off the grid. they were great at letting me choose days off and gave choices for various tasks that needed to be done that day. andrea is an amazing cook and the wine was great! thanks for everything :)
Helene was a wonderful volunteer. She was great at all the tasks that we set her, she worked hard and carefully. But more importantly, she was a pleasure to have around and a marvellous guest. We hope to welcome her back some day :-)
Anaëlle & Hélène were a tremendous help to us, and just the sort of guests we'd like to see more of! They helped us in the garden, with the animals and in the forest, and were diligent and enthusiastic about everything they got involved in. We'd love to see them again some day, and wish them both all the best with their future adventures :-) more
Andrea, Jeroen, Dany and Rowan are a fantastic family ! As soon as we arrived we feel at ease thanks to their warm welcome. It was our first volunteering and it was such a pleasure to work here,in a friendly atmosphere with beautifull landscape all around us. We spent a great time here with the family, other volunteers and we enjoyed all the more
Lucas stayed with us for a couple of weeks in June, and was a pleasure to host. He assisted us in the garden, in the forest and with some building work, and also helped us out with some photography for which we're really grateful. He approached all his tasks with diligence and enthusiasm, whether it was a list of possible photo opportunities or a more
Charlotte was able to stay with us only a very short period of time as her plans changed at the last moment, but we enjoyed the all too brief time that we spent with her and would welcome her back.
its really a beautifull place, a very unic experience is offered to those who are willing to give them self into a very basic form of living, which is truly a gift for live!

Kati, Bent and their lovely little one stayed with us for some weeks this summer and were a wonderful family to meet. They showed a real interest in our projects and we'd love to see them again someday.
Stephen has just left us after staying around a month. He was a fabulous guest and we'd welcome him back in a moment.
Happy onward travels Stephen, and travel back in this direction sometime :-)

Nathan has been with us for three weeks and we'll be very sorry to see him leave us. He's been involved in several projects whilst here, and has proven himself to be capable, cheerful and sensible whatever is on the agenda. He's been involved in caring for our animals, including goats, and can be relied upon to do a great job. A great guest, more
Jennifer and Brandon have been with us here for about 2.5 months now, and we're just sad that their schedule doesn't allow them to stay longer. They've been here through the worst of our winter weather, getting involved in a whole range of different activities, all with a smile.
Jennifer has been particularly involved in caring for our goats more
