Region: WalesWe are Esther, Liam and Marcus. Liam is 17, and Marcus is 4. Ours is a noisy, lively house with lots of trains and lego :) I am a yoga teacher, and love my yoga mat, love the mountains and love walking. I am also a fan of rock music, and like reading and watching TV drama (currently enjoying Sons of Anarchy) We are a generally vegetarian family, eating a lot of beans and vegetables. I don't mind if guests want to bring meat, but I do not buy it myself (or cook it) We are used to having a lot of vegetables as my father is a greengrocer and provides us with a lot of vegetables and fruit each week, however, he is hoping to retire soon and so I need to be able to provide the same volume of vegetables we are used to. I am hoping to this by growing our own organic vegetables.
Region: Vallee baguilllere, Hameau de Garbet, Commune de BENAC, National Park of Ariege PyreneesHi you wonderful people. We have just been let down by a guy who was going to help us get the electrics together on the boat down in Gibralter. Anybody out there who is electric minded and wants to spend a month on the boat (in the sun) and probably go sailing as well. We are actively looking as well for people who are very practically minded to help us get a new farm and sawmill up and running in the new year.......fun fun fun. Also we are going to need a plumber/working knowledge of plumbing for the New Year to help us get the solar heating and back boiler going. So now to the Spam !! Hello again, I was previously a world traveler and adventurer. Now settled in the Pyrenees with Virginia my wife, we have a lovely house and farmland (see pix below) We aspire to eco development, the house already is carbon neutral with power supplied by photovoltaic solar panels. We have a lot of land and forest and live at 600metres above sea level. This altitude guarantees 4 seasons, Spring is glorious and begins very early by European standards Summer is guaranteed to be lovely weather without it ever (!) becoming unbearably hot, Autumn is fabulous with all the hardwood leaves of the forests turning the whole area into an artists canvas, Winter we have usually two big dumps of snow between December to late Feb early March there is great skiing (three resorts - approx.one hour away). We have 2 'sheep' dogs (see photo) - Kiltie has her own flock to practice on (at present 5 sheep), super friendly cats. In the recent past we have also kept pigs chickens goats ducks sheep etc etc. We always kill and eat our own livestock personally. Everything here gets a good life (and respectful death). The reason we have downsized the farm is because we have a 45' sailing ketch moored at the moment in Gibraltar and we have been spending long periods on the boat in a large restoration project (she is wooden and an American classic - we sailed her across the Atlantic). So now the boat is practically finished and we have to get the farm running again. I have a tractor (massey 70hp) plough harrow etc etc., a tracked digger and a dumper, two chainsaws etc etc. What we were hoping to accomplish this winter is to clear a piece of forest about 10 acres in size. We want to bring it back to pasture and mill all the wood we take out. In addition, we would like to maintain the veggy garden up and restore a beautiful barn (1840) as the roof has caved in and the stone walls need restoring etc etc. Where we live abounds in wildlife and birdlife, you can walk ride, ski, bike, anywhere you want, as far as Spain if you want, you will never come across a sign that says "Keep Out - Private Property" like in England (Ugh.) Life is good here, and in return for good honest work (see note below *) we can offer convivial company and accommodation, food is included as is wine. We are considered to be a good and creative cooks (and after saying this now we will have to prove it!) and like to share cooking with any-one who is interested in learning or who already has skills. I am very happy to pass along my skills to any-one interested in every facet of the project etc. So, send an e-mail with a description of who you are, what you like and perhaps a photo of yourself. This position is open to all regardless of race, sex, religion, lactose intolerance, age, number of heads etc., Aliens however, need to send me a telepathic response! We are not smokers (dope or baccy) and if we have the choice we always go for non smokers! Cheers Barry PS We speak English and French PPS We are omnivores but are happy to accommodate veggies if they are also tolerant.
Region: Emilia–Romagna================================================ We are sorry but at the moment we cannost host any workawayer ================================================ Our B&B is a family business situated in Fanano (MO), part of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano near Bologne and Modena. We are family of 4 people, Patrizia, the mom, is always present in the Bed and Breakfast. With the help of the family (Argio, the father, Emilio and Enrico, the sons) and of the neighbour (Caio), the B&B became a very colorful and happy place. Fanano is a small and very charatcteristic old town with many stone houses, like the B&B. However, in the family there is an international atmosphere. Patrizia is turist guide, Argio a travel agent, Enrico and Emilio did the Erasmus as student and Emilio has also been a workwayer until May and now is working in Germany. Living in the B&B is also for us as a working holiday, but is always full of pleasures and also the hosts are happy of this atmospshere. The B&B is situated in front of a small river and from Fanano there are many possible trekking trails all over the Apennines. In the winter there is the opportunity to sky and in summer to fish, even in front of the house, and to ride the bicycle in very beautifull and wild places. We have been in Fanano for more than 30 years and now all the town is like a big family, we have many friends of all the ages and there's always the opportunity to enjoy the day and also the night.
Region: Oxfordshire, EnglandHi! We are Maddy and Neil and have two young children aged 5 and 7. We live in the countryside in Oxfordshire in a pretty 300 year old cottage with views of fields and animals and red kites circling above, just 10 miles from the famous city of Oxford and within easy reach of London (40 minutes by train from our local station). Although our house is in a rural location, we are close to a motorway and do sometimes hear noise from it although this is not intrusive. Maddy is a part time teacher and Neil works for a fashion company in London. We hosted three Workaway couples in 2013 and will have availability again from May 2014. We are looking for hard-working, motivated and committed couples who know what they are doing and can work alone without too much input from us as we both lead busy lives and are not always here to monitor what's being done. We need people who can manage their own time effectively, can complete tasks without supervision and are happy to work outside in typical British weather (often wet, even in summer!) Volunteers need to be physically fit and have plenty of stamina and have suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor work. They need to be able to get themselves up and start work by 9.30am on working days. All volunteers need their own suitable insurance. The opportunity would suit an English speaking couple (non smokers only please) who are looking for self-contained accommodation and their own space who have plenty of energy for physical work (mainly outdoors if weather allows). We have 8 acres of land, a cat called Oscar and have a small herd of black Dexter cows which we breed for meat. We have planted an orchard and dug vegetable patches. Last summer we bought an apple press to make our own juice. We also have an acre of garden and a heated (in July and August) outdoor swimming pool which you are welcome to use if the weather is warm enough. The nearest village is 0.4 miles away (10 minutes walk) and has a village hall with yoga and dance classes and a lively cricket club. There is a bus stop in the village with regular buses to Oxford (the famous ancient university, lots of culture and museums, galleries, shops, bars and cafes, shops, cinemas, theatres etc) and our lovely local market town of Thame (beautiful buildings, weekly market, lots of pubs and cafes, supermarkets and shops, a library and a leisure centre). We live opposite an organic farm (vegetables, pigs, sheep and horses) and they have a weekly farm shop selling produce, bread, cakes and local jams etc. Our local train station (Haddenham and Thame- 8 miles away) has frequent trains to London but Neil is also happy to give you a lift to North Acton tube station in London on Mondays to Fridays as he drives there each day for work, as long as you can manage an early start! He could also bring you home again in the early evening. There are also pretty walks to explore from the house, including the Oxfordshire Way, and sports facilities at Thame leisure centre.
