We are a friendly family, who run a willow business, and are busy setting up our 2 acres of beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside as a workshop venue, hoping to become as self sufficient as possible, establishing a large veg patch (almost finished), repairing the greenhouses, polytunnel, and chicken run, and maintaining the existing orchard.
We bought our place almost 2 years ago, it is in a desperate need of renovation in all aspects. Things are moving slowly, we have now 8 goats and 9 kids, 4 sheep, 15 geese, 9 ducks, 6 hens and 10 chickens, more on the way, 15 rabbits, a polytunnel and a big garden in the making.
We aim to produce our own pure food and buy as little as possible. The polytunnel is filling up with wonderfully crisp and juicy things to eat, that includes lemons !
The morning routine (feeding the animals) takes about 2 hrs, Otherwise, there is a selection of things to do - cooking, bread making, cheese making, patiserie, charcuterie, all kinds of creative arts and tasks etc.
I really need help from September on as I would like to do a year's course to become a certified farmer. We are fully booked for the summer but end of August - the door's open for a couple or 2-3 friends, as we are very isolated and not everybody likes it this way. There's no TV or music, by the way. We listen to the birds and also to the noises our animals make as they sometimes have to tell us something in their unique way.
I recommend sensible clothes all year round, no skirts or shorts, or sandals, you need to have long jeans type trousers and long sleeves, wellies and a sun hat. The house is dry, cool in summer and cold in winter, the only heating we have is a huge open fair place. Sometimes we light it the moment we get up, it is sheer magic... It creates lots of dust, too !
Thank you for listening, I bet it all sounds exciting !
So see you soon
Please read host profile in full before applying as we are offering places for plumbers or carpenters only for now.
At the moment we are only looking for a plumber and/or a carpenter. We need to take up the floor in the kitchen, find and fix leaks and then rebuild the kitchen.
NB!! We will not be taking any other type of workaways until this job is completed.
We live on a beautiful island in Galway Bay with our dog Boiligín. We'll introduce you to islanders and those who have moved here. Traditional music sessions weekly in the local pubs. Great walks along the coast. You can borrow a fishing rod if you fancy your chances. Take advantage of free Irish classes while you are in the Gaeltacht - the Irish speaking region of Ireland.
This might suit an Irish plumber/carpenter who would like to take his/her family to the Gaeltacht for a holiday.
Smokers will have to smoke outside as one of us is asthmatic.
We are Brian and Marianne, your hosts here. A couple of years ago we decided to make a dream reality: quit the stresses of commuting and corporate life in London to start a new life in the French Pyrenees. You can can share our dream and spend some time in this wonderful part of France with its stunning panoramas and rich history, whilst helping us with an ongoing renovation project.
Brian is English, a passionate cyclist and found a cyclist's nirvana here. He brews a variety of artisanal beers of excellent quality, as anyone who tries them will attest. He also is a guitarist and musician.
Marianne is German, a Berliner by birth, with an inborn wanderlust, and a natural linguist speaking three and a half languages: German, English, French and a bit of Spanish ;-) She also enjoys cooking vegetarian meals, with many ingredients coming from our potager, the typical French kitchen garden, where we grow a lot of our own fruit and vegetables.
We are already running a holiday rental business on site, one of our outbuildings is a self contained cottage, and we have paying guests in the cottage from beginning of May all the way through to end of September.
We are recruiting for The summer of 2014! We are needing work aways from Mid May to September, for a 2 week minimum.
Thanks to Michael, Martina, Jean-Marc, Flory, Daniel, Lana & Elton for 2012 and 2013!
We are Sarah and Peter. We hand built a small rental cabin resort in beautiful British Columbia. It is on the mainland, in the south coast of B.C. It is close to many discovery islands, Stuart Island, Sonora Island and Dent Island. It is a beautiful remote setting, where we are off the grid and reached only by boat, water taxi, or by float plane
We opened in the summer of 2012. We have posted our business on the workaway site for 2 years now and we love it! The workers bring new ideas and insight into the project and the guests, love interacting with them.
We are only open in the summer months, June- September and host workaways to help us with the many projects and to keep the place running!
This place is not for every one. It is in the coastal forest, on the ocean. There is no store community of people or amenities. One must love the isolation and be able to fit into the remote hospitality lifestyle.
Peter is a fishing guide and we decided 6 years ago to build our own place.
Denham Bay has 4 cabins, which we rent out, an out door kitchen, docks and a live in- work shop. We are minutes from a suburb salmon fishing area and great for exploring.
