5 Acre Small Holding - Evolving to a new Art Healing Centre Ireland
Pays: Irlande
Last Activity: 11.29.2011
Description
I need helpers who have skills to help with the following:-
Changing the use of old Rare breed Pig Farm buildings by cleaning, demolishing internal walls, concreting floor, re-roofing building, fitting windows into gable ends which are open and creating an Art/Healing/Training Room from the building.
Clearing up storage area of recycled and re-useable building products and creating a workshop in a 200 year old cottage which needs sealing from the weather at windows and doors. Bringing inside from all over the 5 acres, gates, doors and timber stored for future projects to turn this farm into an Art-Healing-Teaching Centre concentrating on Self Sufficiency Training, NLP and Self Help Training, Art Therapy and Healing Techniques.
Building an outside toilet/shower room (foundations and drains already built)
Workers are taken one at a time mostly and projects are written down with guidelines and materials to use, people with skills to match the projects are matched and new positive input of ideas to make this a peaceful retreat are always discussed as this is an evolving project so if you have artistic flair and good at vision/imagination for the benefit of the project we could have some great fun planning, designing and working to make this vision reality.
Skills required: At least 15 years working in the building/farming/gardening area would be required and strength to move blocks, timber, doors and window frames essential.
6 hours per day work in exchange for food and accommodation in a beautiful area of mountains and lakes ideal for walking. You accommodation is above the Teaching room which has a fully fitted kitchen to HACCP standards approved by Food Health and Safety standards. The Toilet and batroom are a short walk away until new facilities are built, you will have your own space and can also share the family space in the Log Cabin. Laundry facilities, wifi, lots of books and dvd's.
Host has several years experience to Organic status as one of the best rare breed pig keepers and farm shops producing sausages and pork/bacon in the recent past. Although this smallholding is changing direction now and does not have any animals on site my experience and advice will be given freely to helpers on the following subjects : Keeping animals: Ponies, Donkeys, Sheep - Lambing Ducks, Hens and Geese, Rearing Outdoor Free Range Rare Breed Pigs, Growing vegetables, Alternative Healing and Herbs, Preserve Making, Wine Making, Farmers Markets, Running a Farm Shop, Butchery Skills, Recycling: re-using materials and recycling bathroom furniture, doors, windows, fencing materials, other items to make creative furniture including mosaic tables. Computer skills and Art (Host was a Teacher before going into small holding 11 years ago)
Prefer mature persons or people over 25 years old with experience, who have lived alone and can cook for themselves, fill a dishwasher/ keep kitchens clean (we have two) and are generally organised, tidy and respectful of other peoples property, tools and machinery. I have a cat, a dog and a 13 year old daughter so must be able to handle animals and teenagers too!

We had the pleasure of sharing just over a week with Kathleen and had a great time. Kathleen gets on with everyone, has a great sense of humour and is a little wonder around the house, always looking to help and clearing up without being asked. A lovely lady who is helpful, considerate, good fun and great to be around - we miss you and hope you more
I had the pleasure of staying on this farm for a little over a week. I wish I could have been there longer but I had already made plans to leave. Now oddly enough I am a vegetarian who decided to stay on a pig farm. Odd, yes, but it was an amazing exprience that I am really grateful to have done! Besides staying with a family that was wonderful more
Tim ( called Dylan) is a really nice guy, helpful, hard worker who will muck out the animals and hel in the house with a happy smile and a cheery hello. He is a little quiet but reliable, grown up and down to earth - great with animals and kids - if you get the chance to host Dylan - take it. We had fun and will miss you - THanks for being part more
Malli is a lovely girl full of energy and a very willing, helpful and able worker.
Unfortunately she had to leave us early, which was dissapointing, but still I would have no problem in recommending her to any hosts.

Great host, I enjoyed staying on the farm, I wish I could have stayed longer.
The work was fun, I got to take care of the animals and help out in various aspects of the farm. I learned a lot about farming pigs. The dogs are great, I enjoyed playing with them.
The accomodation was good, I stayed in a comfortable caravan with a nice view on the more

Life in that corner of Ireland is very quiet, you get to enjoy the nature without the stress of a big city. The company and the conversations are very interesting and I got to learn lots of things. TY for the experience
Really nice to meet and work with Dragos - he is a gentle and wise person with lots of stories to tell of his life experiences and is a willing worker - I highly recommend :)
I'll be back in spring 2012 to continue the projects. Anyone with a high level of skill and ability to work independently will find this former bovine facility turning to healing farm, a joy and challenge at once. The views are grand, Julia is one of a kind, and looking forward to a return visit next year. For those who are open to a good session more
