    Description

Small environmental NGO, focused on andean ecosystems, more in particular to wetlands (and their complex interactions to people, culture, and more).

The volunteer program is a visual project (photography and/or videomaking) in the andean region of Sugamuxi. The Sugamuxi province is in the heart of the east andean Colombian state called Boyacá. It has 13 towns (which include the city of Sogamoso, its capital), with their own uniqueness and beauty; and has a marvelous scenery and natural spots that are quite priviledged in the country, like the 'páramo' ecosystems or the biggest lake of the country (Lake Tota) -2nd highest navigable lake of South America for its size (3,015 meters high)-.

This region is definitely worth visiting, so volunteering with us can be seen as a chance for an easy and low-cost travel opportunity, in a fair balance with a work-like experience.

Our region (Sugamuxi) is a province surrounded by 'páramos', this unique high-Andean type of ecosystem only found in the tropics, a mega-diverse land and wetland up high in the mountains (3 to 4 thousand meters high) which stores a micro-world of species (flora and fauna) that captures water and relates with life so efficiently that it is said 70% of Colombia's consumption water comes from those páramo areas (37 of them around the country, one of which is right here surrounding us with 170.000 Ha to be explored).

Well, the interchange for a workawayer is expected to be very much related to that, with a highland culture that shares (rural) activities and traditions which are linked to them and its environment, and which of course represent a worldwide highlight to be visited and learn from.

    Plus benefit:
We also offer the possibility for a free language interchange in a local University, in accordance to an agreement signed with them for those purposes: Local students need to practice a foreign language as part of their language learning process, and volunteers may help on that... later in turn, volunteers can also benefit from conversation practices in Spanish with them (exchanging cultures with some local fellows), and eventually can also attend some University classes (in Spanish) if that is of their interest.

This benefit is limited only to positions available and calendar programming at the University. It's located in our same town, not far and easily reacheable by local bus.

HD images and or videos are aimed to be free-to-publish or copyright-free with permission given by the photographer as his/her contribution to our NGO for the projects we manage.

We expect a minimum volunteer stay of 1 month (it may vary and be less than that on certain cases), and we also expect a background of outstanding experience on the subject, even as a hobby but demonstrating quality results, in order to get a proper advice on the project - appart from results agreed for the task.

In exchange we offer a B&B stay, kitchen facilities for lunch/dinner, office facilities in our base town (free wifi, office desk), and a bicycle for urban mobility. We don't provide equipment and cannot cope with local transportation costs that may be neccessary for the job some days (except for cases when we can go together by car), thus we expect volunteers to bring and contribute with that. Local transportation costs between towns vary but are roughly usd2 for a one way fare.

We are flexible to discuss some more options, because our NGO has also other fields of work, in need of visual and art help.

The Hostel where we will accomodate the workawayer is a great option in the province for its own location & facilities, plenty of information and experience to explore from for better project results, where you also will meet other visitors and have cultural interchange with their owners. To accomodate in a private room is possible, paying the difference to a dorm rate.
