We're a family of 4 with a daughter (6) and a son (4), who are trying to establish a healthy organic lifestyle farm on 20 acres in North Canterbury. We need help year round with our vegetable garden. We are building our house ourselves and will sometimes need help with this too. We enjoy meeting people and learning from other cultures, are open-minded, friendly, and non-smokers. We're educating our children at home so we welcome the chance to bring the world to us. We are located in North Canterbury, approximately 10 km from the village of Cust, 15 km from Oxford township, 20 km from Rangiora, 40 Km from Christchurch. There are lots of things to do in the area including the Waimakariri River, Ashley Gorge, fishing, tramping, mountain biking, kayaking, golf and horseriding.

URGENT WE NEED 3 PEOPLE INSIDE ACCOMODATION FOR THE NEXT 3 WEEKS and also all who can come with tents, We are in the first step of building a hydroponic greenhouse by friday april 5th we'll be done putting posts in the ground (ouf finnaly out of the ground digging) and we'll start building the tables for the water beds, we offer full accomodation (food 7 days and logging, hot shower,) in exchange of 5 days of 7 hours of exchange (monday to friday so yes your free on the week end and we provide food), we mainly eat vegetarian but like small amounts of good meat(you have to provide for your meat) o and we offer a LOT OF HONEY, an assigned person prepares the breakfast, we make lunch and the travelers prepare dinner together, Write us in advance to reserve your place... I'm Fernando, 32, managing a very rural farm in the heart of Serra da Malcata. The main produce of this 66 hectare farm (163 acre), is goat keeping, but we've also several other animals, like pigs, chickens, turkeys, gooses, ducks, dogs, cats and so on. Also olives and some vegetables. The farm is located in a Natural Reserve and you can use this as a base to explore Serra da Malcata, an unspoilt part of the Portuguese countryside. Hike up the River Bazágueda and visit old mill ruins. Walk in the hills, home of red, lynxs, woolfs, genets and wild boars and enjoy the stunning mountain scenery. Take the goats for a walk in the woods, side by side with native Portuguese shepherd dogs and you'll have an unforgettable experience. Back at home, cherish the view of the waterfront, feed the pigs, chickens and turkeys (endogenous breeds) , and, if you're lucky, you'll be able to feed some baby goats. Unwind and enjoy true nature. Bike riding and licended fishing are also allowed. We can and will certanly do some traditional homemade specialities. We also, depending on the season, make cheese for ourselves. We're now restoring some old country traditional houses maid of stone (schist) and using traditional materials and techniques. In the freetime you can enjoy the river, bathing in pure water! Conveniently located within half an hour drive of dozens of historic sites, you can visit Castle of Penamacor or the Medieval Villages of Sortelha, Sabugal, among others, and get a sense of the local flavor. Step back in time and experience the simple pleasures of medieval lifestyle. In other free hours, we like to discuss everything and would love to learn and teach other languages with volunteers!
