Region: Tigre DeltaDear You, Our project is a small (4 room) bed & breakfast on an island in the Tigre Delta, at only 30 km from the center Of Buenos Aires. We opened in July 2011 and recently got the certificate of excellence of Tripadvisor. Check the website to get an visual idea how it looks like. About ourselves: We are a mixed intercultural couple. Carolina is from Argentina and works in the city as an accountant and system consultant. Stef is a Dutch guy who studied cultural sciences and traveled a lot and lived in several countries. He is responsible for the B&B, so is at home most of the time. We both speak fluently English and Spanish. (we expect you to be kind of fluent in either English or Spanish for fluent communication) Our place functions as a B&B, but clients come only during weekends in general, outside high season which is December to February. During the week, the place is more quiet. The assistance we are looking for: Help with the general tasks of the B&B when there are guests. When there are no guests, there are always small projects of many kinds to be done. Sometimes both of us have to leave for the day, if we have some obligations to do in the city or friends or family to visit. Concrete tasks: Volunteers are responsible for all meals for ourselves (volunteers, stef and caro) and the guests most of the time (we also can cook regularly): setting the breakfast, cooking lunch and dinner, doing the dishes. Regarding the B&B: cleaning the rooms, changing sheets, doing the laundry. Tasks inside the house: cleaning toilets, living, bathrooms, cooking & freezing quantities of vegetables, making jams. Outside: mowing the lawn, tending the crops, watering the plants, preparing wood for the winter. Small repair and maintenance jobs always occur, as articles break down or need attention otherwise: painting, rebuilding or improving the fence, making order, reorganize. ...Or whatever else you think that needs to be done. Own initiative is needed, we don´t like to command people but also don´t like to chase people for things to be done. Be creative and a self starter, see tasks that need to be done. Anybody with the right spirit and mindset is welcome. We are specially looking for handymen & -women, who know carpentry, plumbing, constructing, mechanics, electrics, machine maintenance, cooks, gardeners, website developers, artists What you get in return: What we offer is a beautiful spot in the nature, on a river. You will have to work 4-6 hours per day (depending on necessity, weekends more hours, weekdays less possibly). For the rest of the day you can just relax, read books (we have a library with all kinds of books, fiction and non-fiction, most in Spanish, but also quite some in English), write, use internet (good wifi available), walk, kayak, play with the dog, watch movies (we have some 500 on DVD), or whatever you like. You can practice your Spanish with us and the guests, and we can give travel advice for the rest of your trip. You can get days off to visit Tigre or Buenos Aires without problems almost any day outside weekends. It takes 2 hours to go the the city centre of Buenos Aires. Each trip on the boat to or from tigre is 35 pesos (3 dollars) We prefer stays of about 15 to 20 days, including weekends. If we get along very well, there are no other volunteers coming and both you and us enjoy it, we can always extend the stay. Shorter stays are also possible sometimes, to fill gaps when we have no volunteers. Last minute request also welcome. If you are a single volunteer, you could share your stay with some other volunteer, the room provided has a double and a single bed.

Region: AlbertaToni and Les are a middle aged couple who both work full time (Toni is an editor for a publishing company and Les has a Water Treatment business) and also manage short-term accommodation (separate houses), mostly for students. They have done international homestay in their own house for over 20 years with students from over 30 different countries. Currently, they are busy with their yards, renovating and travelling to Venezuela, (mostly to help their son who is building a posada at the beach in Chichiriviche and is also a workaway host.) They have a small home built in 1908 with a wonderful side deck that they use for cooking and eating and relaxing summer evenings. Their yard has a lot of flowers and the street they live on is canopied with large elm trees. Daylight in the summer goes at least to 10 pm. They have been scout leaders and avid campers. They have a motorhome for travelling and are also working on a coach to eventually move into and travel in when they retire. They have a houseboat on the coast of BC and like to go there for holidays during the summer to spend time on the ocean salmon and halibut fishing. They have done several "holiday exchanges" whereby they have hosted couples from other countries and taken them on a Canadian vacation (all expenses paid) in exchange for a vacation hosted and paid for by the couple in their own country. These exchanges have allowed each couple to experience other cultures at an intimate local level with the safety and security of being completely cared for by the hosts. They expect to include their guests in all aspects of their daily lives, including off-work and any weekend travelling / camping activities. They expect their guests to feel like part of the family. Edmonton is the thriving capital city of Alberta. It is a short distance away from Jasper National park and the rocky mountains and various lakes for camping. It has a wonderful river valley with lots of biking trails and is known as festival city for the numerous activities that are going all during the summer. It is also the home of West Edmonton Mall, one of the world's largest shopping and entertainment malls. There are museums, heritage parks and theatres - always something to do.
