    Description

    Dear Workawayers,

We are a family of three living in a beautiful part of Munster, Ireland. That is, myself, Grace & my two sons aged 15 years & 11 years. We have a 1.5 acre property set in the rich agricultural countryside of Co. Limerick. We are 10 minutes drive from a main line train station.

I haven't hosted volunteers before, but "Workaway" has been recommended to me by friends, who have had great experiences.

We are a friendly, active & fun loving family. Our interests include: sport - all kinds, especially rugby & boxing in which the boys are involved; yoga; going to the sea, (only 2 hours away); food & wholefood cooking - I am pescetarian, (mainly vegetarian & some fish), the boys are omnivores, so I can cater for all diets; hill walking; computer games & programming; Scouting - I am a Cub Scout leader in our local group; & people & life in general.

I work part time as a nurse & "double time" as a mother. I once had a productive vegetable garden but due to family & work commitments over the last few years I have not had enough time to keep it up. With some help I am hoping to re-establish my garden & start growing some food again.

I am looking for help with clearing & digging out my old vegetable garden, cutting grass & hedges & weeding. I do not use any pesticides or chemicals, so there is a lot of hand weeding to do. I need my wood shed to be tidied up for the winter. I also need the windows cleaned & re-varnished. If the weather is bad & not suitable for outside work, I have indoor painting work to do. If willing, we would also love some language practice with a French speaker - perhaps for limited periods during your day.

I expect you work to work for 5 hours per day, from 09:00am, from Monday to Friday. The weekends are your own which you are welcome to spend with us, or to take the time to tour Ireland. Arrangements can be flexible.

Ideally I would like someone for 3 weeks, from September, 5th-27th.

If you are not happy with your work or conditions & you wish to leave, I would appreciate if you could give me at least 5 days notice. Similarly, if I feel that you are not suitable as a volunteer, I will give you 5 days notice to leave.

You will have your own bedroom & bathroom. I can take a single person or a couple. Our home is a renovated farmhouse & is comfortable & spacious. There is free WiFi, but please bring your own device. I will do your laundry for you - but if you prefer to do your own, that's fine. (No tumble dryer)

I will provide you with home cooked healthy breakfast, lunch & dinner each day. I can cater for vegetarians & non-vegetarians. I am interested in macrobiotics & would love to share this interest with any volunteers who have experience.

We live within 30 minutes drive of the Galtee mountains & the beautiful Glen of Aherlow which is very popular for walking & climbing. We are also close to the Ballyhoura Mountains with has renowned mountain-bike trails. I would be happy to drive you if you wish. Within the general area there is also pony trekking centers, golf clubs, horse racing tracks & more. We are located approximately 30 minutes drive from Limerick City & 15 minutes drive from Tipperary town & there is a regular bus service. Limerick Junction train station is only 10 mins drive away, which is on the main Cork-Dublin rail line. - Dublin is 1.5 hours by rail. Nearby, (less than 1 hours drive), tourist attractions include the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and St. John's Castle, Limerick.

We live among a lively rural community & there is usually some local events going on, such as, music entertainment, food fairs or sport. My friend runs a yoga studio, which is within walking distance of our home & evening classes will be starting in September. The roads around our home are quiet & great for walking or cycling - we have bicycles that you can borrow. It is light up until 21:00 in September & so it is nice to get out in the evening.

You are also welcome to accompany me on trips to town or join in with any of our activities in the evening.
