Area: PopovoUnfortunately we had a barn fire on the 13th of June which spread to the house and destroyed the work of the past 2 years. We hope the roof will be back in place by mid July but we are currently camping out in gardens without electric or hot water. We still have cooking facilities and hope to have hot water and electric within a couple of weeks. Priority is being given to getting our home liveable again. UPDATE 6/7/2014 - Builders are currently putting a new roof on the main house. We plan to put an artisan roof, reusing some of the old timbers, on the extension under guidance from a craftsman friend. In addition to mud plastering, lime rendering and general decorating, helpers may get the opportunity to dismantle and rebuild a kerpitch (adobe) wall. These walls and floor needs to be rectified before we can reroof the barn area - giving the larger animals more living space. Update 19th August 2014. We now have electric, trailing sockets from a few power points but at least we have power tools when necessary. Running hot water is still a dream, hopefully within the next few weeks. Work is progressing more slowly than we hoped but we are only human. Whilst we are looking for people to help us rebuild our home we accept that not both people in a relationship may be enthusiastic about these tasks. General garden maintenance and catering still needs to be done and we are happy for someone to tackle these areas. Our main criteria for helpers is enthusiasm and a general willingness to 'muck in' Sadly after weeks of running on adrenaline we are both tired, physically and emotionally, those bringing laughs with them have gifts we will welcome Paul and myself are living on a (mainly) organic small holding attempting to be self sufficient. We are growing our own fruit, veg and animal feed, have lots of fruit trees, preserving food by various methods, making yogurt and cheese (when the sheep decide we can have some milk), a lot of what we are doing requires us learning as we go. We have volunteered ourselves, during which time we learnt a lot and met some great friends. Having experienced the other side of the coin we offer to provide you with good wholesome food, the opportunity to join us on trips out, the use of our bicycles, internet access and most importantly - an enjoyable experience. We have sheep, rabbits, chickens, geese and cats. Plans include more poultry and getting pigs, BUT only when we have improved the animal housing, possibly something you may be interested in helping with. We have a long drop toilet as opposed to a flushing loo, which we use when working outside but we now have a fully functional (inside) bathroom, and washing machine. It is really good fun and hopefully you will learn many life skills, mind you hopefully you can teach us a few also.
Area: AquitaineWe moved to the Dordogne from Jersey in 2003, with our three children and 2 dogs. The children are in school and lycee and we now have 3 dogs and 1 cat. We run two luxury 5 star gites all year round and open the Domaine to various functions from an annual Food Festival to charity balls. Depending on the time of year, this will dictate the type of work available, whether it's helping with the gite changeovers, or helping to prep the gites for the season, getting the garden in shape in Spring, or helping run the Food Festival or cookery workshops. Life is certainly a mixed bag.
Area: British ColumbiaWe are based in Cowichan Bay on the sunny east cost of Vancouver Island. My wife and I have lived in Europe and travelled extensively around the world before settling in British Columbia. We are not a farm, but on our beautiful 2+ acre property we have a small vegetable garden and some fruit trees. Our house looks out over the sea and Gulf Islands. We have a motor boat and sailing dinghy and are happy to share these with you. We have bicycles for use, which can be used to get to the village centre, where there are shops, cafes, marinas etc.
Area: Lot/DordogneWe are a British gay male couple. We own and run a small restaurant and bed & breakfast in south west France, situated on the edge of the Dordogne river in a very historic and touristic village. LOOKING FOR A PLACEMENT FROM THE 24TH AUGUST TO THE 14TH OF SEPTEMBER
Area: LimaI have the vision of sharing this calm and inspiring spot as a place to rest, dream, awaken; develop arts and music, practice your holistic healing. The landscape is almost an oasis, both due to surrounding geographic features and its proximity to Lima. The property is pinned on farmland, easily accessible from Lima on car, bus, taxi and, or a combination of them and walking. The area offers a range of possibilities to explore. I just took over the property and need enthusiastic hands to help me condition the house, the organic garden, a set of cabins, the home. The property is on 1ha (10000m2) land. The house and garden is contained within a tall fence on about half of the land, with 3 bedrooms and sunken living room. I consider myself pretty mellow, respectful and discreet. I have to be as well versatile, creative and pragmatic. I enjoy sharing quality time and meaningful conversations, hearty meals, witty humour, and laughters. I celebrate diversity, variety and change. I have lived until now developing many of my interests and gradually discovering the spiritual undercurrent that carries me along. My last career integrates my interests and values: Global Resource Systems for Food and Resource Economics under sustainable eco-economics. I try to eat light, healthy foods as much as possible. Together with this, I consider important to maintain a clean and tidy home, free of drugs and alcohol. I will enjoy helping you improve your Spanish while discussing Peruvian culture and geography, together with typical food preparations and giving you pointers in domestic travel and safety. Of course, I will celebrate learning just as much from you. I would love to hear about your travel parties and discuss how we may be able to accommodate you all. I invite you to drop-by to meet what I and the communities and spaces around me have to offer. Thank you.
