Region: KalmarWe are a family of six. Emma (24, law school), Karl (33, doctor), our 2-year old daughter, our newborn daughter and two dogs. Two years ago we bought an older house that we hope to renovate with care and preservation of the old touch. A lot has been done but we still have some final touches left, right now mostly finding furniture, lamps, carpets and other stuff that fits in with the style. The garden is not big, about 700 square meters, but we hope to grow some vegetables, fruits and herbs in the future. For this to happen, the garden needs to be fixed up properly and we need help with both work and planning. We also hope that the garden can become a good place for dogs and children to explore, play and learn. They like it already but the garden needs more fencing since our neighbours drive way is rather close. Our daughters and our two dogs are with us in our daily work and we hope you enjoy spending time with them. Since we are quite busy with work and studies we really appreciate baby/dog sitting sometimes.
Region: Eastern OntarioOur home and business is connected. We own a small but dynamic design house in rural Eastern Ontario. We are a design family with interests in the outdoors and preservation of our natural heritage. Our designs include elements of sustainability as it relates to caring for the earth and being resourceful. Hans is a restoration architect, Carolyn a designer using tires and other discarded materials and Jake is a student and outdoor enthusiast (canoe/kayaker). We also have a cat, Tiger. Together we live in and around our studio/gallery. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their artistic interests to the work here. You will have access to many types of materials and have the opportunity to learn many skills. We also expect our volunteers to help out with day to day chores such as cleaning and maintenance.
Region: EasternMy name is Petra, I am from Austria/Europe. In October 2011 I travelled to Uganda to make my dream come true – to volunteer at a babies home, an orphanage in Mbale. During my stay I met Michael. He told me a lot about the country, the people and the situation about children and youth in Uganda. We visited some orphanages in Mbale, Soroti and Katakwi, the situation was a polling since then, i realized the need to build the capacity of the youth orphans and other vulnerable children through skills training, as to enable them to cope up with life situations. In February 2012 I went back to Austria I told my friends about the situation in Uganda the vulnerable children like child headed families, children who lost their parents because HIV/AIDs, or killed by rebels of Joseph Kony and Karimonjong worriors. One year later it was possible to sponsor children through the donation from friends of Austria and to send them to different vocational institutions in Soroti and Katakwi. The aim of the organisation is to equip children and young people aged between 12 and 18 years with a good education or vocational training with knowledge and skills to open their future prospects so that they can stand on their own feet when they are adults and have self-confidence for their daily challenges and tasks. VISION: Vulnerable children, youth and communities empowered for holistic sustainable development. MISSION: The mission of the organisation is to provide the children, youth and the entire community with knowledge and skills to overcome their daily challenges in order to be successful in life. People from all over the world who are interested in volunteering in Uganda can work with vulnerable communities in Teso sub region and areas, hospital, day care centre, nursery school, primary school, business skills, proposal writing, carpentry workshops, motor mechanic at vocational training institution in Soroti and many more. Just let us know what you are interested in, and then leave the rest to us.
