Description

Our project is to create a community based ecovillage modelled on villages as they were 100-150 years ago, which were almost self-sufficient. It is located on a 140-acre south facing farm overlooking a Loch . We are a registered charity. Our Statement is:
"To create a space in which children learn first hand the living of Human Values and ethics in order to become balanced individuals, capable of being responsible role-models of the future"
Our Mission statement is: " To create an Universal Multifaith Ecovillage with a zero-waste/zero-energy/re-use/recycle/reclaim policy where the people adhere to the Human Values of Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-Violence and aspire to inspire our children and grand-children to look at what is lacking in our society and instigate a change by setting an example how it can be done;
To create a "School of Life" that encourages us to look beyond -and break through- the limitations of our belief system and embark together on the journey of life; since we all have abilities far beyond what we use, we discover and investigate the limitless possibilities we are endowed with;
To encourage the children to find an alternative way to learn and pass on what they have learned and not be afraid to become a role-model for other children;
To find one's own space but be responsible for the whole;
To foster children who are 'dealt a wrong hand' in life and share our abundance with them".

We bought the farm almost 9 years ago and are gradually working on the infra-structure. Work progresses according to the financial situation, which is determined by how many guests we have had in our Bunkhouse and Family rooms: our only source of income so far.
We have had lots of volunteers; at the moment of writing this down in high summer, we have 25 staying with us! (Over the years quite a number of couples met here which resulted in five marriages ((two babies are already named after Maryse, the visionnaire of this project)) and another 18 long-term relationships)
We have three long-term residents and a changing number of short- and long-term volunteers. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to stay for at least a year, to set-up and take responsibility for one aspect of the total project, like starting community-owned businesses, such as an organic farm shop with coffeeshop/lunchroom; market garden; tree nursery; a forest school; a co-operative co-housing retirements home; an alternative health centre with Ayurvedic treatment (is there an Ayurvedic doctor willing to join?)
We have Japanese monks and nuns living here, who are sent by their Superior, to help us with the agricultural side of our project; we will pioneer with growing rice besides growing oats, barley and hemp.

Work

We already started building a dividing wall in the large barn, using drinking cans 'cemented' together with papercrete: we guess it will take one person three months to finish this. We need a person who wants to take on this project.
We plan to build another wall with glass bottles; we need someone who like to take this on.
-We have one polytunnel and are planning some more. We are needing a long-term experienced organic gardener to start a market garden with veggie-box scheme;
-We want to start a fruit and nut tree nursery to provide the trees for the planned woodland burial site: we need a horticulturist to set up and run this project;
We are planning to open an organic farmshop with coffeeshop/lunchroom and we need someone to help build and run it;
We need a vegetarian/vegan cook who takes care of the kitchen and cook the meals for the volunteers;
We need someone who wants to take responsibility of running the hostel;
We need someone who can take care of sewing and mending and who can teach the volunteers how to do it themselves.
We need a handyman to insulate the static caravans so that people can live comfortable during the winter and take care of all necessay repairs and maintenance.
We need persons with building skills who can help
For all those projects the person in-charge will get the help of the short-term (minimum of one month) volunteers.
