Travailler dans une ferme bio en Grèce
Description
Update: Volunteer positions available between mid July to mid August
We are a vegan family living a simple life on our organic farm on mainland Greece in a beautiful region called Epirus (or Ipiros). Our farm lies just outside the town Arta near the Amvrakikos Gulf and about 40 km from the Ionian coast .
The area around Arta has long been known as the orange growing centre of Greece. Lush orange groves can be found all over the place.
Our land was covered with dark green orange trees as well until the demand of Greek oranges declined dramatically and a severe frost caused a lot of damage to the trees in our area.
Today we cultivate about 2-3 ha of land where we grow a large variety of fruit trees besides oranges, some with more and some with less success. One of our aims is to experiment, to try out new things and to find out what suits this area best. We now have well known fruits like apples, peaches, grapes and pears as well as exotic plants like assimina, passion fruit or feijoa and tropicals like banana and guava in our large greenhouse.
Besides fruit trees there is a number of olive trees and walnut trees growing on our farm.

Logement
- it is a new house tent designed to accommodate 6 people, however it is unlikely that we host more than 2 -3 people at one time, so there will be plenty of room in the tent
- it has two separate sleeping compartments divided by one large living room
- it is tall enough to comfortably stand upright inside
- we will supply bedding and sheets
- especially during spring (April, May) we recommend you bring along your own sleeping bag, it is usually warm during the day but can get chilly during night, so make sure you have a sleeping bag that will keep you warm
- bathroom facilities can be found in the main house
Autres choses...
- during warm weather we frequently visit the beaches along the Ionian coast or we may go to the Acheron river
- how often we go on a trip depends on how much work we all get done
- we usually try to visit the beach once a week if time allows
- sometimes we may stay over night and visit a mountain spring on the way home, from where we collect our drinking water and have a very refreshing bath in the cleanest water available under a thick canopy of old plane trees and a breathtaking mountainous gorge
- please note that due to soaring fuel prices all over Greece we may ask you to contribute a little to the fuel cost, especially if we go on a longer journey

Joey is an interesting and knowlegeable young man. He has a great sense of humor and he integrated himself very well in our daily life. He showed great interest in what we are doing here and willingness to learn new things
Our 4 year old son had a great time to chat and play with Joey who showed a lot of patients with little kids who keep on more

I had an excellent time staying on the farm. The atmosphere was congenial and the family are a delight to be with. They taught me a lot about farming and wild food. The home cooking was excellent, and ever since coming home I've been missing all the olives! Though the accommodation is in a tent, it is very spacious (I could stand up in it), and more
