Area: IowaWe're a middle class family of three in a university town in Iowa. We live in a large house we have a hard time keeping up. Dan is a hospital pharmacist, Heidi is an author, and Anna is a full-time teenager who enjoys Minecraft and riding her horse, Royley. Heidi also suffers from chronic pain and can't always do as much manual work as she'd like. We have four cats with a lot of attitude. Our city, Ames, is mid-size with a good bus system, and it's not far from the state capital, Des Moines. We're 3 hours from Minneapolis and six from Chicago. Ames has vibrant farmer's markets, arts and music festivals, a large public garden with butterfly house, and more master gardeners per capita than most cities. We have bikes we would be happy to loan you, or know where you could rent your own. Heidi has a number of allergies, including dust mite, down, dairy, egg, and gluten. If you have any of these allergies too, or others, or are vegan, we can happily accommodate you. We generally eat whole foods, heavy on vegetables, and limit consumption of sugar. We keep wishing for a garden (but might need your help for that!) Our family believes in and works actively for human rights, particularly LGBT rights. We are not religiously affiliated but respect all faiths and beliefs, including those who have none.
Area: Midi PyreneesChris and Maggie live in a large house which was renovated a few years ago. We just outside the village of Varen, about 100 kms north of Toulouse. Chris is semi-retired, having worked in UK TV and radio as a drama writer and producer and subsequently as an internet consultant, providing advice to the creative industries on how to manage content online. Maggie is an artist and part time teacher of English and French. We have both traveled extensively in Europe and the rest of the world. Nowadays we still spend a certain amount of time travelling, occasionally working away from home, but otherwise occupy ourselves with gardening, tinkering with this and that, reading. Maggie works in her studio and I have a work room in the house. The house is surrounded by its own land, with gardens, woodland and a river for swimming and canoeing. There is a railway nearby with direct trains to Toulouse. We are both sociable people, taking great enjoyment from cooking and eating, good conversation. we keep up with friends throughout the world using the internet and we both have a wide range of interests.
Area: Landkreis Rostock / Mittleres Mecklenburg / OstseeThis house is a small art project near the Baltic Sea and the Hanseatic town Rostock. You can come from February to October, please look in the calendar if there are bookings. Our place is not so far from Berlin or Hamburg with the railway ore bus to Rostock and it is on the way from Kopenhavn (or Sweden) to Berlin. In history, this house was a cheese factory, it´s about 120 years old. Inside the house is quite new and moulder. It’s realy in a village, surrounded by nature. Attention: It´s not a farm, it´s an social-art-project, around with a lot of heavy physical activitys (no visitors under 20 years, please). We are teacher, craftsmen, farmer, conservator and artist and we live in close proximity but not directly under one roof. We’re building some things with eco-materials in landscape like Playgrounds in the village, and special view points in the landscape. And we do practical things with the children of the primary school. You can help us in all practical matters. But you should also get some alone finished.
