Area: Uttarakhand ( District Nainital) IndiaHello to volunteers planning to come to a Farm Project, Monsoons are over in the hills so this means its time to take stock of our mud buildings and begin repairs and also cut the huge amount of undergrowth that has sprouted under the fruit trees. There have a few landslides so the path to the farm needs clearing too. We are also planning a spate of courses this year from PDC's to jungle walks, from family farm weekends to yoga and agro ecology. We need help in reogranising the farm so its ready for the next course this autumn. And ofcourse there is the regular farm work as usual. We are also looking for resource people to hold courses. We love to see new smiling faces at the Farm and everyone is more than welcome. We thank you for your cooperation in helping us make the Farm the lovely place that it is.... Volunteers contribute 300rupees a day for food With love & hugs from all of us at the Himalayan Farm family Vision. We are a vegetarian, non smotking, non drinking, organic farm in the lower Himalayan mountains of India. Our vision is to create a sustainable organic farm and to introduce a growing number of people to sustainable and low impact living. The Farm is part of living planet and we aim to reduce environmental degradation, while promoting ecological viability and quality of stress free life. We believe to live with The Mother Earth and not off The Mother Earth, to nourish Her more than what we take from Her thus leaving a better place and foot prints for the future generations. About the Farm Project: It is Hari's dream project started at age 70+ ( Hari becomes 72 on 30 Jan 2014 ) for volunteers from around the globe. Eliott Mercier, from France, is the co-founder. It is an all volunteer Farm Project and is an intentional community of international volunteers, from consumers to producers, that intends to re-introduce the farming model as a real sustainable livelihood in respect of oneself, other people and the environment. No one is the leader; people simply come to share their knowledge for free with the community. The uniqueness of the project comes from the fact that the farm is completely off the grid and effort to make it completely self sufficient and sustainable. We welcome both long term and short term volunteers. The minimum stay for short term volunteers is 32 days, a day each for arrival and departure and 30 days for farm work. Special souls who are willing to stay for a long duration of 4- 6 months are more than welcome. Volunteers with knowledge and skills in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, farming etc are more than welcome Mini Solar Power House We are still off grid, but we have electricity. We now have a mini solar power house at the Farm from Jan 30, 2013. The farm house has very basic accommodation almost at the very top of the hill, above a small town center of Do Goan. There's a steep pathway / trek ( one hour) leading up to the farm in Village Raila. The location is very isolated and far away from civilization. Total peace prevails here. The longest staying volunteer is generally steward at The Farm to coordinate all activities and ensure that the farm routine runs smoothly. We expect the volunteers to accept that the farm is not for having a cheap holiday, but it helps one to see that a stress free, disease free, healthy life can be lived devoid of many so called necessities of life and they willingly join in daily farm routine and community chores. We are geared to take up to 12 volunteers at any one time though during PDC we had 36 guys on the Farm. We are vegetarian by choice ( Awesome !!! ). We believe that this is not only a farm but a holistic healing center too. We are reconnecting nature with healing in all our activities. We do not cook/ serve any junk food at The Farm. The Farm had an over 100 years old traditional building ( see photo ) which was in a state of disreair. This has been restored partially. Due to paucity of funds we are yet to replace the old leaking tin roof. The volunteers have completed a new mud sala, a mud cottage, a new kitchen, three eco baths and two ceramic compost toilets before the start of our first Permaculture Design Course on 04 May 2013. In addition we installed 6X 1000 liter water tanks and laid over 3.5 Km of water pipe lines too. This was a tremendous effort with in a span of two months. We salute the volunteers who made it happen in such a short span of time. We now have a wood fired oven, completed during PDC and inaugurated on May 24 with baking of bread and pizzas. About Hari I am Hari, a retired veteran of Indian Army. On retirement after 33 years of service, I changed my profession from Arms to Farms. Since retirement, I have been involved with the community providing holistic healing services including Homeopathy, Ayurveda and Thermal Acupressure, besides helping in educating poor children in the Himalayas. During 2007 and 2008, I attended courses ( Illness to Wellness and Reconnecting Nature with Healing ) in Schumacher Collage, Dartington, UK. In 2010, I received a scholarship and attended six month long apprentice course in Agroecology in University of California, Santa Cruz. Since October 2011, I have been involved with The project. I have been made a Board Member of The Garden Project, which is a feather in the cap of our farm project. Future Perceptions We are looking at solar, micro hydal and wind to produce power and looking into cob and adobe housing besides farming organically. Long Term Volunteers Welcome
Area: Anatoli, Ierapetra, Cretemy partner and I (from Scotland and England) run a donkey sanctuary in a remote location in the mountains of south east crete. We also have horses, a pony and dogs. We are a registered non profit organisation in Greece and as such rely on help from volunteers. We take in donkeys that are old, unwanted and often abused and they live their last days in freedom and knowing they are loved. The dogs we have here are dumped in the area and we look after them until we can find a new home for them. Some of them will stay with us forever. We have olive trees and would like to reinstate our vegetable garden with the help of volunteers. In the tourist season we sometimes get visitors who like to walk around and learn about all the animals and our work. We used to offer walks with the fitter donkeys and with help would like to do this again. This is an amazing experience. The area that the sanctuary is in is amazingly scenic but very rural and remote. I also make craft items to sell in monthly online fundraising auctions - so anybody with artistic talent willing to help by donating their work would be so appreciated. Whilst we would prefer single people, we can accommodate a couple but they must be happy to work independantly.

My rustic hostel is located directly at the beach and a lot the hammocks and rooms have seaview. The hostel 15 private rooms, some more rustic with shared bathroom and some with private bathroom.
