Área: Alentejo, Vila ViçosaNext week temperature is rising to 32 degrees again, so it is still summer in the Alentejo. We need help to gather wood for the winter now it is still sunny and dry. We are looking for two or three volunteers to help us with some general maintenance activities and the wood supply for the winter. We offer shelter and food in a relaxed atmosphere. "The place is peacefull and lost in the deep Alentejo countryside. The hosts manage the quinta mixing northeuropean precision with portugaise warm hospitaly. Strongly suggested for people who like nature, calm and good food!" Review from Anna - Italy
Área: KentuckyWe farm organically, mostly with horses. Live sort of self-sufficient lifestyle in off grid home, but have farm office with Internet access. Contact us for the link to our youtube farm/music video where you can see farm and meet us. It's different now with the children growing /going and we lost my wife in 2010. now only one child still on farm and they are now away at times now for school/work. Too short handed to continue as normal, but trying 'work exchange' for some extra hands while scaling down. Located in beautiful central Kentucky, one hour north of 'MUSIC CITY USA' (Nashville, TN). Lots of lakes, rivers and world's largest cave system. Mammoth Cave National Park. Also Great Smoky Mountain National Park, which is America most visited Park and is an easy drive. You can check them both out on line. We're not commercially farming now, just growing and preserving much of our own food and for our animals. We breed, raise and train border collies for herding. All of our animals have free run of pastures, except the Border collies we are training. Unless fully trained, if left unsupervised herding dogs will find and possibly harm livestock. So we need help exercising and caring for the dogs since they stay in pens. We also need help caring for the goats, sheep, cows and horses. We also have our own milk cow and sometimes milk goats. We make our own yogurt, can our own food ect. Have four horses for farming and occasional riding. Wild turkeys and deer and peacocks commonly seen. We heat and cook with woodstoves. Sometime we work hard; sometimes we do not. Summer days in growing season can be long and hard, but rainy days help balance it out. We normally take some time off for fun things. That said, life is pretty satisfying just like we are living, so it's not a 'need to get away' thing, we just like to go kayaking and other things too. Feel free to ask anything you wish to determine if interested in visiting and helping us. We enjoy working/interacting with others including those different culturally and spiritually. We've had visitors/helpers from several foreign countries and around the states; through a different work exchange It has been a great two-way experience so far. If you wish, we are glad to supply you with reviews from our guest since it was through another organization. Be wise...be thankful, JCK & Family
Área: Midi PyreneesHi. We are Simon and Linda and having toured France as Workawayers ourselves, we have now sold up in the UK and bought our dream house on the banks of the river Aveyron in the Tarn region. It is in a very rural location but only 20 mins or so away from 3 of the most beautiful mediaeval towns in France....Cordes sur Ciel/Najac/St Antonin Noble Val. The city of Toulouse is about an hour and a quarter away and Albi, the pink city and birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec (great museum there) is 45 mins away. Gorgeous scenery, river gorges and quaint villages abound here! You can relax by the river and maybe even go biking and canoeing. Our rescue dogs Tara and Bella are always ready and willing to show you the surrounding countryside. We are easy-going, love music and dancing (so if you play guitar you are welcome to use our brand new and still unused (!!) Takamine) but please bear in mind that this is a very rural placement, so if you are looking for bright lights and nightlife, this really isn't for you. Simon is pretty good with his building skills (he makes yurts too!) while Linda is a holistic therapist and reiki practitioner who speaks pretty fluent French. We are both happy to pass on these skills wherever possible. Having been Workawayers ourselves, I think we will be good hosts....certainly food will be tasty and plentiful and you will be made very welcome. We initially like to agree a one week stay with a view to extending if everything is going well.
Área: AndaluciaAs a couple we took early retirement from education, I have a land-based/environment background, to live in a beautiful setting 2km above the town of Orgiva in the Alpujarras. We have just finished building our own house, with pool, and now need help with our 69 organic acres. We enjoy walking, listening to music, reading etc etc. Steve enjoys martial arts having run his own aikido club in the past and practices Tai Chi. There are olive, almond, vines and various fruit trees to tend, brush to be cut, fruit and vegetables to be grown and animals such as chickens, dogs and cats to be cared for. There are various projects on the go and jobs around the house. We are completely off-grid but comfortable none-the-less. Non-smokers preferred.
Área: EnglandCome and enjoy 2 weeks work in the Cotswolds. Skilled and motivated Workawayers welcome. We are Henry (40) and Kat (34) and we live in the Cotswolds (Gloucestershire) in a farm/manor house. We need help with general upkeep and maintenance in the garden and in the house, and also with work on one or two other running projects. We have hens, 2 geese, a turkey, 2 cats, and a large, boisterous 2yr old dog. Good food, hot baths and a comfortable bed in exchange for a variety of work 5 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Take the weekends off, travel and explore. We're surrounded by beautiful countryside and charming villages. There's a local pub 10 mins walk away. We're walking distance from Stow on the Wold, and Moreton-in-Marsh and you can reach London by train within an hour and a half, and Oxford in 30 mins. We accommodate two volunteers at a time for two weeks max. Generally we accept volunteers between 25-35yrs. If your aim is to learn English, let us know and we'll arrange your visit so that you are here with another volunteer from a different country so that you can practice your English.
