Área: GaliciaWe are a married couple who bought our old house here ten years ago when we were still living and working in Scotland. Our holidays for six years were spent on restoration work and we moved here permanently three years ago. We share our home with a large laid back German Shepherd and two hairy cats. We have very little routine to our lives, preferring to live life spontaneously and like nothing better than to jump on the motorbike and explore this special area of Spain. Consequently, work progresses slowly! Our house has three bedrooms and a large balcony along the front of the house where we tend to eat and socialise. We are both non smokers and try to eat well ( mostly vegetarian) and live healthily without being fanatical. We also have a garden where we attempt to grow our own organic fruit and vegetables.
Área: AragonRob: I grew up spending summers on my great aunt’s farm in Poland, a lifestyle I loved and yearned for myself. After meeting and marrying Emma, we bought a house in the British countryside, grew our own vegetables and had chickens, it just seemed right that we should follow our dreams and commit fully to the life we both wanted. Keen on traditional building techniques I am looking forward to restoring the masia and building a traditional stone bread oven. Emma: An artist, traveller and teacher wanting to set down roots and live a simple life in tune with nature. Having studied architecture I wanted to be able to design my own home in a way that worked with nature rather than against it. This farm and artist retreat has been my dream for as long as I can remember; it was just a matter of when and where it would happen. Stanley: I’m a gorgeous great big teddy bear of a dog and important part of the family. One of my parents was a poodle and the other a labrador, making me an awesome mix of the two. I love meeting and playing with other dogs, children and adults, so I’m happy for any of you to bring your humans with you to stay with us. The Farm: The large stone masia, (farm house) set on top of the reef with valleys either side, surrounded by tree covered hills. There are beautiful olive and almond groves, wild flowers and herbs, golden eagles sore overhead and all of this near to the famous Sea of Caspe. We will be farming organically working towards organic certification. As well as the olive and almond groves we will be planting fruit trees and having a vegetable patch in order to provide as much of our own produce as possible. We will also have chickens and hopefully in the future goats and pigs.
Área: sea slope of Etna volcano, SicilyMy husband and I (both N. Italians, from Modena, the city of Ferrari) bought this house on the slopes of Etna, with a view on the the Ionian Sea. The small house of dawns, we could call it - sunbreakings are usually awesome. The house is surrounded by 2,5 acres of own terrain in part dedicated to vineyard and orchard, with a shadowed caravan in the middle of the garden. The location is surrounded by green (we are fond of Botany and there are more than 2000 types of different plants) and has a great tranquility . In the past - in pre-Workaway times, we mean - we have hosted here people from all corners of the world - being always being pleased with our hospitality. We do NOT AT ALL host singles. This because this place is our holidays house, where frequently there's only one of us. And we don't like the idea to be a senior female/male in company of a junior female/male - situations that can be leading to ambiguities - certainly not in our minds - but e.g. in neighbours' ones. We're sorry to have been obliged to furtherly stress this concept, after having received so many (already discouraged) requests from singles. We prefer relatively long stays - not less than 15 days. As well, we prefer people having no special diets. As said before, often you could meet only one of us, let alone to follow the 10000 things to do here. A further complication - as cooking different meals for guests - it's simply too much to bear - we really just have not the time, sorry. We're both good cooks (so people say), and prepare tasty Italian food, but what we eat in person is just what we can share. Last but not least, we don't commit at all our guests. You'll be free on your own to decide your working hours, and your working days, on a gentlemen's agreement basis. We'll explain you what there's to do, but will never oblige you to do it from 8 to 12... free, if you wish, to do from 15 to 19 - or in the night, if being a vampire. Or not to do at all, and working longer next day. This is a private house, we absolutely do not sell what we produce, so we ourselves are not committed to reach a "result" whatever. We love to see coming here couples, staying, working and eating with us, with the hope to let them go away as new good friends, and just good memories of us, ok ? :) (We totally filled our 2014 Workawayers hosting list in Sicily home. Possible but not certain hosting again since Jan/Feb 2015, or later. :) )
Área: UtahTRAVELING TO THE STATES? TRADE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN AMERICA'S PLAYGROUND, UTAH!!! ***I AM LOOKING FOR PRACTICE IN THE FOLLOWING LANGUAGES: Japanese, German, Swedish, Norwegian, and Russian*** Hello! My name is Austin Earley (25 yr old). I am an entertainer, educator, world traveler, aspiring musician, and avid language enthusiast. I graduated last May with my bachelors in Foreign Language and will be looking for opportunities to practice my languages of study and start to learn new ones before grad school. This year I may be applying to a school in Europe, Uppsala, and would like to learn a bit of Swedish and/or Norwegian. I dabbled in both but haven't committed to one or the other. I also have a brother who speaks French and is looking for practice and a younger sister who is learning Chinese. I also have interest in Russian, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazilian). I have done a few studies abroad and love to travel! During these trips I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people. I value the international experience and want to share it with others. I even did Workaway in Ireland so I know how wonderful an experience this can be and will do my best to pay it forward. I love animals and also have a degree in Zoology. I work for a very interesting local company that deals with education, outreach, and entertainment using large, exotic reptiles, scorpions, tarantulas, alligators, tortoises, birds and other fun creatures! We visit schools, libraries, birthday parties, state and county fairs, you name it! everyday is a party! If you want to tag along once in a while all you need to do is ask! ***DON'T WORRY THE ANIMALS LIVE IN THE COMPANY BUILDING, NOT IN MY HOME*** If you decide to stay with me then you will have the opportunity to accompany me to my place of work and interact with some of these amazing animals and learn how to handle them and how to hug a giant snake! This is only an offer, if you are not interested in that sort of thing no worries! However the option is there! For the really enthusiastic workawayers you may have the chance to assist me on one or two of my performances! My company wants to branch out and start doing videos for YouYube and other similar video projects. We want to put together a series of fun instructional animal care videos, etc sooooo.... VIDEO EXPERIENCE IS A HUGE PLUS!! :) I live with my brother in the green, relaxing suburbs of South Ogden City Utah just a 40 minute drive North from Salt Lake City. We are at a higher altitude so the air is fresh and invigorating! My home is situated at the base of a beautiful mountain range and there are plenty of places to hike and camp nearby. I have my own car and can take you where you need to go (depending on distance I may ask for a little gas money but locally I would be more than happy to take you no problem at all!). It is the college part of town so there is a very relaxed atmosphere, tons of cafes and restaurants and I can show you around some of the neighboring cities and take you to some of the interesting things to do. I also know the manager of a local movie theater so needless to say movies will always be free during your stay! If you want to pick up a bit of English, cinema can be good practice. I also visit my family in Syracuse on occasion during the weekends. It is located only 15 minutes away; there, you can see acres of marshlands and one of the world's largest migratory bird refuges. Depending on the time of the year you can witness wild swans, hawks, red-faced ibiss, and even the national bird, the bald eagle among dozens of rare and exotic species! On the way you will notice the wide variety of landscapes in such a close proximity, a few more hours south and you will see red, sandy desert and sandstone cliffs. Should you decide to visit during the winter months we are surrounded by top notch ski resorts! If you are into Winter sports this is the place to visit, Snow Basin ski resort is located only 30 minutes away and hosted some events for the 2002 winter Olympics! Summer visitors can enjoy outings on the lake with my family and our boat, great opportunity if you want to learn how to wake board! for days you want to relax we have almost every videogame console under the sun and an entertainment center so you may be asked to join a round or two of Mario Kart, Call of Duty, or Halo! Welcome to the family! To summarize, there is lots to see and do year round and I want to share these experiences with you and learn more about world language and culture.
Área: KalmarWe are a family of six. Emma (24, law school), Karl (33, doctor), our 2-year old daughter, our newborn daughter and two dogs. Two years ago we bought an older house that we hope to renovate with care and preservation of the old touch. A lot has been done but we still have some final touches left, right now mostly finding furniture, lamps, carpets and other stuff that fits in with the style. The garden is not big, about 700 square meters, but we hope to grow some vegetables, fruits and herbs in the future. For this to happen, the garden needs to be fixed up properly and we need help with both work and planning. We also hope that the garden can become a good place for dogs and children to explore, play and learn. They like it already but the garden needs more fencing since our neighbours drive way is rather close. Our daughters and our two dogs are with us in our daily work and we hope you enjoy spending time with them. Since we are quite busy with work and studies we really appreciate baby/dog sitting sometimes.
