We are an 8-acre community located near Andra village, Andhra Pradesh. Srikrish has been farming here since 2012. We are passionate about building sustainable local food economies and preserving environmental heritage through food culture. We love cooking and would love to learn new recipes from Workawayers!

Our goal is to turn this place into a mostly self-sustained, biodiverse-rich food hub. We have installed the first phase of our permaculture food forest in 2017 & have retrofitted a rice field into an aquaculture project and another one into vegetable production.

2022 the food forest we designed has become 5.5 years old ,turned into a mini forest from completely degraded baren land to fully self sustaining with 40+ varities of mostly native fruit trees, wood species , spices , and large bamboos , we also have fish ponds with lotus and water lilles. We grow a variety of field crops at different times - Indian oats, millet, safflower, toor dal (lentils), sesame and brown rice.

We have a bio digester toilet, a round mud building, and an in-progress cob cottage.
We are completely powered by solar energy and have water hand-pumped from a borewell for washing.

We are looking for people who are passionate / have interest in permaculture (we try to follow permaculture principles through everything we do), agriculture, nature, health, food, cooking, animals, natural architecture, art.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️Please mention in your initial email what drives you - how will we have a mutually beneficial working relationship if you join us at the farm?*️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️

Farmland trails for some scenic walks nearby. There are also villages that you can easily walk to. The farm is located very far away from any type of tourist scene - you're coming smack in the middle of off-grid farmland!

We could help you organize a trip to the Araku Valley region (2hrs away by motorcycle, longer by bus) - waterfalls, trekking, caves etc.

Srikrish has been working with villagers and tribal workers in Andhra Pradesh for the past 3 years.

Looking ideally for people who want to stay for at least a month! 2 weeks minimum would be fine.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️Please take care to reduce the amount of PLASTIC you bring to the farm. There are no facilities for waste disposal here so we need to keep unrecyclable waste to a minimum. We'd really appreciate it if you don't leave your broken or ripped shoes & clothes behind.*️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️

    What's happening?
These are all potential activities - there might also be other things to do as needed. Some activities are seasonal - we can give you more details in the inbox!

    - Helping with farming! We need to make sure our tree saplings & other plants get and watered, compost piles get made & turned, vegetable & herb beds get made, weeding, collecting materials for projects (sand, topsoil, rocks, etc.)

    - Looking after chickens, cows, and fish: feeding, watering, collecting eggs, cleaning out chicken house, cleaning out cowshed, taking cows to graze & for water

    - General maintenance: using a brush cutter, planting new trees, mulching, working on the fish pond, some carpentry/construction work, cobbing, painting, plastering

    - Cooking & washing: prepping vegetables, going grocery shopping, planning and executing a meal yourself, washing the dishes

We like to make a plan every morning and decide what everyone will do for the day. We prefer to have volunteers who are self-motivated- please just ask what needs to be done if you're not sure! It's better to work during cooler hours of the day, so this might require waking up earlier and resting in the hotter afternoon.

Please get in touch if you have any questions - we’d love to hear from you!

    What else ...

We try to work outside in the early morning (before breakfast and heat during the hotter seasons) and early evening (4-7pm) depending on what needs to be done. This can vary and of course, is flexible. Middle of the day is usually spent doing computer work, reading, etc. - could be free time for you. We also have some books and a collection of permaculture education videos. There is also a stream nearby where you can cool off at and bathe.

The nearest village (to buy some snacks, beer, cigarettes etc.) is about 1.5km away. A bigger town, Gajapathinagram, is about 15km away and has restaurants, pharmacy, etc. You can grab buses to Vizianagaram (35km) and Vizag (Visakhapatnam) (90km) (major cities with hotels, internet cafes, western food).

You can reach us via bus & train through Vizag from major cities. From Hyderabad, you can reach us directly through Vizianagaram by bus.
