Area: Navarre** Now we need someone to help us to prepare the wood to fire, the firewood and gardening** We are a family of 4: Couples, Patxi and Alberta, and the children Izar (11) and Alaia (4), we live in the valley surrounded by forest and this is our project: A Responsible Tourism Bed, fully self-sufficient with renewable energies. Designed and refurbished with bioclimatic criteria, bio, geo-biology and FENG-SHUI. It is located in a place of extreme beauty, surrounded by native forest and mountains. KAAÑO, Karino, KARIÃ'O, KARRAÑO were the names and home teníi. The site located to the east and south with Mount Seambe guarding the entrance of the north-west winds had served for years to house families who worked the land (and some garden corn) and livestock, all owned Etxalde. We found the place when its last inhabitants left him 40 years ago: stone, oak, chestnut ... The restoration of the house is based on: the choice of a good place through dowsing. A study from the GEOBIOLOGY especially in long stay spaces (bedrooms, other places of rest, work ...), avoiding disturbances and crossings telluric energy lines. No electrical or electromagnetic pollution both inside and outside the house. We conducted biocompatible electrical installations. The use of bio for rehabilitation and conditioning, using materials and labor from the immediate environment: local, district and regional levels. Materials used in bio noble, respectful of the environment and health of living beings that inhabit the homes and environment: thermal clay, stone, wood, paints, oils and natural dyes, suppression and forged metal structures, cables and halogen-free pipes, polypropylene pipes, heating with polyethylene pipes, boiler low temperature propane, wood burning fireplaces, gas stove, cork insulation, flax and hemp ... The installation of renewable energy, solar energy, solar and wind power, turning the house and housing in an energy self-sufficient, with no connection to the grid. Application of criteria permaculture is a system that integrates harmoniously designed sustainable housing and landscape, saving materials and producing less waste, while conserving natural resources, in an attempt to design sustainable human habitats and agricultural systems (in the small garden), which mimic the relationships found in nature. The system of cycling and recycling waters after their separation at source ... Area: Languedoc RoussillonWe have just one month left this summer in which to work on the eco project. If you want to help this September then contact me asap! We will close the build site down for the winter at the end of September and take a break! We will need volunteers again from March 2015 for the spring and summer. If you have experience or a real interest in learning how to build a straw bale house then please email me for dates up to the end of September 2015. We will not be running the B&B. We are a retired British couple who have been living in France for the last 12 years. We have a B&B and an organic garden. In the next 3 years we want to build a straw bale house and set up a permiculture garden and orchard. To do this we have bought land in the Aveyron. We are bird & animal lovers and have 8 stray cats. Francis runs days bird watching in the local area. We divide our time between the house and garden here and our new plots of land in the Aveyron.
Area: AlentejoIn Oct 2009 I acquired a renovated farmhouse which has nearly 8 acres of land with beautiful views situated near Marvao. The land is varied & consists of terraces, some flat & rocky areas with 320 olive trees, cork & fruit trees, vineyard, 4 bullrush ponds & streams. We currently have 5 friendly sofa loving & playful dogs, 2 crisp stealing affectionate cats, 3 adorably naughty kittens, 4 cheeky geese, 5 dappy curious sheep, a mixed bunch of entertaining chickens, 2 talkative ducklings & last but not least there are the 3 characterful donkeys. In other words liking animals is very important ...... If you do not totally 110% GENUINELY enjoy being around them ...... please choose another host!!! ** all the animals are primarily pets. However, even though I rarely eat meat now, very occassionally practicalities have necessitated in the past that a goose or male lamb has gone in the pot / freezer (not very likely to happen from now on - just so you know). Some of the Jobs that need doing are:- ~ painting outside of house ~ animal care (feeding, refresh water, cleaning dishes, daily donkey hoof cleaning) ~ Help keep the land clear ~ weeding of flower area ~ build a safe pen for geese. ~ create a colourful garden that can cope with dry weather ~ watering plants / veggie plot ~ clear out the ponds ~ restore stone walls ~ lay paths & create steps ~ restore & thatch chossa (outhouse) ~ build fencing & gates ~ Nov/Dec I will need help again with picking the olives pruning the trees.. ~ and a whole host of other things that I haven't thought of..... yet! What has worked well is that we all share the tasks of cooking & clearing up afterwards and the basics of keeping the house clean. I have a huge interest in dog / animal behaviour and training & have spent many happy years attending courses, seminars & conferences in the UK, America and Belgium learning from many inspiring & wonderful people. I'd now like to find the time for us to have fun putting into practice what I've learnt! Anyone coming to stay would need to be happy to spend time in very quiet peaceful surroundings (the Algarve this is not! Hence, no discos or heaving sardine packed bars!!). There are however lots of places of interest to visit, beautiful walks, quiet roads for cycling and a very eclectic, friendly & sociable international community. It is important that sometimes you are able to work independently & with initiative. I will be happy to show you around the area & include you in any social events but I do appreciate people who are also comfortable with & able to entertain & amuse themselves!! Experience has taught me that a minimum 2 weeks stay works best. I'm also open to people staying for longer periods of several months if things work out for both of us. One Helpxer friend from 2010 is in the process of selling her house so that she can move over to the area permanently! I am Dutch but English is my first language having lived most of my life in England. I'm currently working hard to learn Portuguese and brushing up my Dutch, French and German! If you are learning languages I have lots of language resources & would be happy to language 'buddy' with you. A non-smoker, flexitarian (mostly cook & eat vegetarian - occasionally eat meat & fish ), enjoy wine & good conversation accompanied with tasty food. Eclectic taste in music (but I have an aversion to most Opera though!) and dance. On recent visits to the UK I bought some African drums but as yet have not had chance to learn how to play them. Any djembe drumming teachers out there?. I now have 4 drums for jamming sessions! Despite the fact that I can't play music or sing to save my life we have had some fun musical & singing evenings here. One of the most recent was a volunteer who could play the musical saw! Accommodation consists of an ensuite bedroom or 2 very cosy caravans situated in the olive orchard. There is plenty of space if you want to pitch up a tent or park up a small camper! ** possibly cannot reply to emails until 12th November I am also a Helpx host & have lots of reviews on my profile there - host no. 6376.
Area: VictoriaA little (almost organic) market garden specialising in rare and unusual fruits and vegetables and selling at local farmers markets. I am dedicated to promoting home food growing in the general community. We are situated in a small rural town in Victoria. I am especially happy to have helpers who love getting their hands in the dirt and have a future dream of building their own plant based business or market garden and am willing to provide teaching of all facets of food growing and selling to anyone who is interested, along with accomodation and meals in return for a few hours work each day. Work could include: Weeding, helping at the markets, harvesting, seed saving, hand pollinating, planting and more. I like variety in my work and offer that to all helpers. Small cabin for one or two people and meals with the family. No smokers or drinkers please. International helpers must have own insurance and current work visa as well as being respectful and speaking English. There is a bus service from Melbourne or Mt Gambier to get here and plenty of activities for your days off including bushwalking, local pool and bus to nearby towns and shops, sightseeing. Internet available. Washing water is restricted in the warmer months and unless we get rain, there may only be enough for two or three showers a week in summer.
Area: FinnmarkAt a lovely place, directly near the Varangerfjord in the municipality of Nesseby in Norway (Gorgnetak) I run a business as an agent for Norway and Finland concerning handmade Sami products. My name is Monique, I am 50 years old and born in The Netherlands. I am easy going, love people and enjoy life to the fullest! Gorgnetak is a beautiful place if you like the pure nature. There is electricity but no running water (that means no toilet or shower) but we manage that in other ways so no worries. You can hike and do some fishing over here. The nearest place with a supermarket, a bar and a restaurant is 8 km. The villages Tana and Vadsö are 40 km away. There are two airports in the neighbourhood: Vadsö and Kirkenes. There is a bus from both airports that stops in Varangerbotn three times a day near the best mediterranean restaurant you can find in the area. If you want to know what's going on in the Varangerbotn/Nesseby area, please check this website: varjjat.org/wp/
