The shelter who saves souls in Bucharest Romania needs help with dog care, interaction and socializing.
Domestic animal welfare laws exist in Romania, but they are badly drafted and poorly enforced. Romania’s cultural norms and economic challenges do not adequately support animal welfare efforts, despite Romania’s membership in the European Economic Community (EEC) since 2007. The EEC seems to be doing little to rectify the Romanian government’s woeful failure to enforce proper animal welfare laws, including the unchecked poaching and overhunting of wildlife.
I have seen firsthand how the street dogs of Bucharest and other Romanian cities struggle to survive against severe cold and hunger. It’s heartbreaking to see how the dogs have transformed themselves into beggars. They lie in wait by the exits of restaurants and supermarkets, begging for a piece of bread when patrons exit. They have learned to cross the street when people cross, at the proper light changes and only at marked places, but the traffic is chaotic and they don’t always make it. They are utterly ignored and disregarded by the people around them, or are abused or tortured by them, yet they show patience and understanding in their wise, almost human eyes. They die from starvation, exposure, and violence.
One woman in particular is as incredible as what she does. Her name is Mona, and she alone has built and run a small but mighty shelter on the outskirts of Bucharest that houses more than 300+ dogs at any given time. She is not a governmental employee, and her shelter is not a non-profit rescue. She is just one of those few people convinced that she can win against a cruel world and system. She needs help!!

Known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, glorious Belle Époque buildings and a reputation for the high life (which in the 1900s earned its nickname of "Little Paris"), Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital, is today a bustling metropolis.

Romanian legend has it that the city of Bucharest was founded on the banks of the Dambovita River by a shepherd named Bucur, whose name literarily means "joy." His flute playing reportedly dazzled the people and his hearty wine from nearby vineyards endeared him to the local traders, who gave his name to the place.
