Enseigner au Pérou et améliorer la vie des gens !
Description
We are a non-profit organization based in Peru providing free English education to disadvantaged children and adults in the local community. We are located in the thriving city of Trujillo, Peru in the city's poorest district--La Esperanza.
50% of the world's population currently lives below the poverty line, and presently we are collaborating with volunteers to improve the quality of life of some of the poorest people in the world through education. Recognizing that many members of our community are born into this type of poverty and have very few job opportunities, we decided to broaden the horizons of our community by founding Horizon Peru. Our goal is to provide opportunities to the members of our community using education in order to improve their lives.
Currently, we are collaborating with volunteers to achieve our goal--and we need your help to continue building this project and drastically improve the quality of life for people in our community.
With the help of our volunteers, we are able to offer children and adults alike this useful skill for free.
Thank you for your interest in our organization! We hope to hear from you soon!

English classes are taught at local elementary and high schools and private lessons in the school house. At the public schools, class sizes are 30 students, ages from 6 to 17 years old. At our school, classes are more like a tutoring session, with 1-3 students per class. Volunteers have a curriculum to teach their classes with, but also prepare necessary materials to make their classes entertaining and fulfilling. Volunteers also help with fundraising and events for the students.
The school is also in need of a Program Coordinator. If you are interested in this management position (fees not required) take a look at our website to learn more about the position. (please ask for it)
At our center we do more than just work; we always find time to relax and enjoy ourselves. We understand that during the time you are here, you want to do more than just volunteer – you want to explore all that a foreign country has to offer! Below is a list of fun things you can do during your stay .
* Surfing Program
* Sandboarding Program
* Trips in and around Trujillo
* Cooking Classes (learn how to prepare Ceviche – the most delicious traditional plate of Peru – and more!)
* Dancing Classes (Salsa, Merengue, Marinera, Festejo, etc.)

I have just completed 3 fantastic months here and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The main thing that made the whole experience for me was the kids. I taught only for 2 months giving private lessons and the last month we have been teaching larger classes at the local colegio. The colegio is brilliant fun, I only wish I had more time to work more
Volunteering here was a very good expeience that added alot to our travels. I came with my friend from home and we stayed for 5 weeks.
Come expecting to work hard. You work all day long (assuming all your students show up) with a break in the middle of the day for lunch. If you decide to partake, Estella makes amazing food and eating lunch more

I am departing from here in two hours and must say that I am truly sad to leave. I have not only felt a part of this organization, but also a part of the community- talking with the vendors at the local market, playing futbol with our students, and being subject to the sounds of roosters calking and dogs barking in the middle of the night. I will more
I had four really stellar weeks here. The organization is accustomed to hosting international travellers and providing them with scheduled, meaningful work. Expect to work with adorable but unruly children in a community that is less familiar with westerners.
Plus Estella the full-time cook/housekeeper/mom does a wonderful job of keeping more

I cannot recommend this organisation enough. The work they do here is truly brilliant, helping the local community by teaching English. Working in the local school and here at the house is fun to do and also gives you a great experience. Being here combines language learning and improvement, with helping an exceedingly worthwhile cause, and what more
To anyone interested in knowing the people of this country and love teaching will have a true experience with this organization.I have spent 2 months at Luz and Manuel s and was greeted as a family friend. The children are more than willing to learn and are very inteligent.I would suggest learning as much spanish as possibe so socializing and more
I had a great experience working in here. Teaching at the primary school was a challenge but a very rewarding one. The smaller classes were fun. I miss all the kids! They come from underprivileged backgrounds but are still so warm and friendly. Luz & Manuel were very welcoming hosts and it was interesting sharing their home and their culture for 2 more
What a great experience. The kids are very sweet and they greet you with kisses. Luz and Manuel and their families are very welcoming and before long the volunteers and the peruvians become one big family. During our free time we took walks around La Esperanza, went to the beach at Huanchaco, did shopping downtown and small local markets. Some more
I strongly recommend this to anyone willing to give their time to a worthwhile cause. My 2 month stay here is coming to an end, and I only have good things to say about this place.
Luz and Manuel have been more than \'hosts\', they have been amazing friends, and for this I am grateful. They will welcome you to the home; just today we shared more

I just spent 2 months at this place and had a great time! Manuel and Luz really welcomed me into their family, and made Trujillo feel like a home away from home.
I started out teaching 2 classes a day (5-8 year olds and 12-17 year olds) in the house over the summer and really loved this experience. It was very inspiring to see how these kids more

I have just finished a five week stay here and it was without a doubt the most incredible experience of my life so far. Manuel and Luz were fantastic hosts and did their utmost to make me feel at home at all times.
I spent my time here working at the local school. I had three days a week helping out in high school English classes and two days more
