Description

We are a 100% worker-owned women’s weaving association based in Guatamala, created to help local women receive a fair salary through back-strap weaving textiles. This cooperative is the perfect place to volunteer if you’re creative, self-motivated, and interested in Guatemala’s Mayan traditions.

Travail

Volunteers design new promotional materials for the cooperative, help with sales in the locally-owned store, work on marketing within the city and abroad, write articles to publicize the organization, develop new international clients, apply for grants and raise money, and assist with weaving lessons and demonstrations.

At our cooperative, we try to find a way to fit each volunteer’s talents and interests with our ongoing projects and needs. You can also develop ideas for new projects using your own skills and propose them to the cooperative’s officers. There is no minimum time commitment or minimum Spanish requirement, but with more time and fluency in Spanish you can get involved in more substantial and rewarding projects. Longer-term volunteers (the equivalent of 3 weeks full-time) can learn to weave a scarf for free.

Logement

We do not charge a fee for volunteering or provide accommodations, but we can help you find an inexpensive place to stay. Quetzaltenango is a great place to stay, with plenty of affordable hostels and apartments.

Autres choses...

As the second-largest city in Guatemala, Quetzaltenango is full of fun things to do!
