Land maintenence in Costa Rica
Area: Pacific coast
Our project is a beautiful Peruvian Pacific coast ecological, artistic community founded on Vaisnava principles, strategically located on a beach, in the district of Aucallama, in the province of Huaral, one hour by bus or car (63 km) north of the capital city, Lima. We live together according to principles of non-violence, simple living and elevated thinking, and visitors can learn and experience how it is possible to live happily in harmony with nature, others, and themselves. We are looking for people that are basically open-minded and want to practice tolerance, compassion and patience.Area: Languedoc Roussillon
We are a couple. Peter, American 58 and Bhumi, French, 53 who are living on a piece of land near St. Hippolyte du Fort in the Cevenne area of S. France. Peter came here as a workawayer early this year and met Bhumi through mutual friends. Bhumi has been developing her land here as a garden and a workspace for preparation of organic and medicinal plant products for several years. Due to an injury two years ago work stopped and Bhumi moved to town. Now with Peter's help she is back on the land putting things back into shape. We are off the grid, living in a caravan. There are terraces that offer nice private spaces for camping and a second, smaller caravan. The weather is mild and agreeable for being outside most of the day. We will provide two meals a day in exchange for a half day of help with the gardens primarily, but also with other landscaping and maintenance tasks, possibly some building or stonework. We are happy to introduce workawayers to the area which is rich in places to explore and cultural activities. Many places can be reached by bus up in the high Cevenne, Nime, Montpelier, even the beaches. A couple might be best for a week maybe two.Area: Bocas del toro

We are two suburban homesteaders with a tiny backyard flock of laying hens, honey bees, and approximately 2800 square feet of garden space. We're located in the Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania. Our goal is to produce as much of our own food as possible through organic methods, while demonstrating what degree of production is possible on a residential plot of land by ordinary people with no formal training in gardening or agriculture. In 2009 we produced over 600 pounds of food from our backyard, and in 2010, over 760 pounds. We expect to continue that trend going forward for the next several years. Since we grow for our own consumption and not for market, ours is very much a polyculture site. We have fruit trees and several types of perennial berries, a large garden of annual vegetables, and many culinary and medicinal herbs. Other interests include light DIY/construction work to address on-site needs, permaculture, herbal medicine (we're still very much beginners), various methods of food preservation, dumpster diving for construction materials, local foods, Transition, ethical consumption, and all aspects of sustainability. We look forward to learning more about the world, other cultures, and many areas of expertise from our volunteers. Plans for 2012 include the planting of a living fence to replace our old wooden one, installation of rain barrels for passive irrigation, as well as a tiny frog pond in the middle of the main garden. We'll also plant more perennial food crops, cook more meals with our solar oven, raise a few chickens and turkeys for the table, and learn to extend the growing season with our new hoop house. Finally, we'll experiment with the cultivation of Black Soldier Fly larvae for poultry feed.Area: Andalucia
Our project is an open place for many different projects. It´s a very peaceful and laid back place where i personally find a lot of inspiration and freedom. Sometimes there are parties, yoga and meditation sessions, karate classes, art projects and photography trainings. You could join as well as an artist and/or run your own workshop out here... Finally all falls or grows with your opinions... ;)
