Description
Hello Workawayers!
NB: we are currently only looking to host people for the duration of a weekend (not longer).
We are a family home situated in a very special valley near Laragh, Co. Wicklow. We are looking for helping hands with work that needs doing in the garden, in exchange for a beautiful and remote place to stay in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains.
What we can offer:
- Private room, bathroom and conservatory with kitchenette
- Access to the family kitchen and utilities room
- Close proximity to Glendalough and other breathtaking areas including rivers and waterfalls for swimming, as well as the coastline for sea swimming
- A large private garden that you can retreat to and spend time in, away from the 'outside' world
What we are seeking:
- Two or more individuals (preferably with your own transport mode, because it is a very remote location)
- Fit and able individuals with experience in using garden tools and growing veg etc.Types of help and learning opportunities
GardeningDIY and building projectsCultural exchange and learning opportunities
The location that you will be staying in is very precious. You will be very close to many of Ireland's most beautiful heritage and natural sites like Glendalough, Lough Tay, Glenmalure, Avoca, Brittas Bay. This is a very peaceful place to come and stay, no noise, beautiful sunsets, hiking, swimming etc.
We are also keen to meet you, have chats, share skills and stories, of course!Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
One of the core aims is to remove and manage invasive species which are suppressing biodiversity and native plants in the garden. This is really rewarding but physical work. Please let us know if you have experience using a chainsaw.
Another core aim is to process/store what we cut e.g., cherry laurel wood, and bamboo rods.
We also have a large fruit and vegetable garden which needs lots of love and attention. We hope to host workawayers who can help with this.Languages

Accommodation will be the 'Blue Room' or other rooms in our family home. You also have the option to camp outside in a tent if you wish. The Blue Room is attached to the family home but it has its own bathroom, kitchenette, conservatory etc. so it has a lot of privacy. The Blue Room has a double bed. If you are more than two persons or do not want to share a bed then we can offer other bedrooms in the house.
Who else will be around? Probably:
- Me (Ali, 25 years old, F)
- My dad or mum
- My uncle who lives in the cottage next door. What else ...
Time off should be spent exploring the area or relaxing, whatever you wish! But we reckon its best if you have bikes or a car!
There is a bus stop in Laragh but we are about a 40min-1hour walk from Laragh.A little more information
